Ole put so much faith in this man. We're 2-1 down, dominating second half possession, looking like we might equalise. What's Maguire do? Get himself sent off based on his inability to take the ball and move it on. His limits as a footballer once again exposing us.

I was wrong about Maguire, he not only exudes the aura of Beckenbauer, but he also has the ability on the ball to match

The first page of the thread has some real gems:
If you look at his ball playing ability, its up there with the best.
Maguire is very good on the ball. He has great composure and will look for a quick short pass even if the angle is tight and usually gets it right.
I watched enough matches for United and England to come up with the conclusion that Maguire is a good passer.
Also don't talk about his blunder or clip it (which aren't really blunders when they happen every game). If you do that you'll be labeled a toxic fake fan and as having an agenda by top reds such as @romufc @Regulus Arcturus Black

Hopefully this stint with England will help him regain some confidence.

I do wonder whether he's been struggling with the pressure of being captain in a team with Ronaldo.
Well did he regain any confidence ?
He's a fecking liability

I cant remember Chris Smalling ever doing that by the way. All the talk of certain players not being able to play against the press (Smalling, AWB, etc) but Maguire gave a perfect example of what having a moment where you are undone by pressing looks like. Its not passing the ball sideways, its being pressed into a mistake and then having the ego problem where you dive in trying to correct it right away and doubling down on the initial error.

First half I thought he was playing alright but god knows what he was thinking with that. Idiotic.

I have no idea why he keeps trying to dribble his way out of trouble. Just pass it back to the keeper if you have to ffs! our defence take such stupid risks all the time.

I’ve been saying for a long time that Solskjaer will be undone by his faith in this lumbering oaf. He’s made everything else about ten times worse and managing to escape being dropped has gone beyond a farce.

The slowest player on the pitch tries to dribble the ball, just think about that

He should be sold, an awful footballer and that was obvious from his Leicester days.

Once he gets moving he can carry the ball quite well, but there's a time and place for it.

He's so slow to accelerate even Tom Cleverley of all people robbed him  there's me thinking his 2 goals for England might sort his head out. Meh.

Then he put in an awful dangerous lunge which could have badly hurt Cleverley.

Downfall for Maguire was the stupid price tag that the clueless Woodward and Matt Judge decided to pay for him and Solskjaer foolishly choosing him as club captain.

The amount of errors he's made this season alone is incredibly and somehow not dropped.

Yep just doubled down on his mistake. Why he didn't just let him go and try to catch up with him or hope he misses? it's madness.

The England games were like playing Tranmere, he looks ok in those games. Players like Matic and Maguire were always going to get hustled against Watford. Maguire is flawed at the best of times and it's been many games now since he came back from injury, he's been horrendous in all of them.

He had some clumsy carthorse moments for England but nothing came of it. He scored but he also scored against Atalanta. People get to obsessed when he scores for England, it's really nothing, he gets the odd goal for us too but he's so cumbersome..

He's thick and poor on the ball. Can play well when full of confidence but the first to crack under pressure. A terrible signing and a terrible captain.

Another awful performance. He's arrogant and delusional. Being made United captain has really messed with his head. He genuinely think's he's Van Dijk and can't accept or recognise his own weaknesses. Feels as though he's some sort of victim and unfairly treated rather than admitting his own poor form. He shouldn't even be at this club, the sooner he's gone the better.

Defend deep, get numbers behind the ball and allow him to just attack aerial balls and he is pretty good. When the game is open he is a calamity, but that should have been obvious before he signed, he wasn't going to get any quicker, so bringing him in and committing to him as captain was a standard Utd odd choice of the last few years, £80 million on a guy who created further problems.

Those split second decisions give a lot of indications regarding the player's intelligence on the pitch.
Like when he lifts his arm up for offside instead of defending (Atalanta game). He is a clown with little focus on the pitch

Possibly the worst game of a Manchester United captains in living memory.

Sat low to break the offside line several times.

Red card

Was in Narnia when Sarr was allowed 90 seconds free time to score 2-0.

Roy Keane once said that the players must be able to respect the captain, and they can only respect the captain if he's playing well. From my perspective I just can't see what he brings. Raphael Varane has been spotted shouting at Maguire several times this season.

He looks so mentally fragile that it amazes me how and why is he the captain.

If he'd been consistently performing like a top defender during his time here that'd be one thing. He'd have built up a lot of credit. The real issue is that he's been here almost two and a half seasons now, and only performed at that top level for half a season.

In his first season he was very inconsistent. Had some great games, had some shit games, overall he was pretty much average.

Second season he obviously started in atrocious form, improved a bit and then truly kicked into consistent great form for the second half of the season.

Third season he has started in atrocious form again.
Top post.
Once OgS is gone, if the next manager plays 4 at the back he’s finished at the club.

Just a complete disgrace of a professional footballer at the moment.
To acting a prat in midweek to the inevitable car crash performance today.
He has some serious mending to do….

I know it was spur of the moment but a celebration like that against Al'fecking'bania was always going to come back to haunt him. He's made himself look a clown.
I doubt it was ‘spur of the moment’, he’ll probably have been banging in a few from set pieces in training & thought to himself ‘next time I score out comes the knee slide’.

He’s there epitome of a front runner.
