There is a huge difference in that and kids, which I quoted....

And secondly, is professional players only subject to criticism against lower rates teams? For me that's a very weird take. If that's your opinion you dont know much about human psychology

Gareth Southgate's England come up against the lowest ranked side in world football on Thursday in a San Marino squad that includes a graphic designer, second-hand car dealer and a dentist

I find it weird that most don’t see it this way. He’s already proven he can be a rock for us, he’s just out of form since doing well at the Euros and has been rushed back from injury.

The price tag dominated peoples opinion on him I think. Don’t get me wrong he’s been well off it this season, same for Shaw. But they are good players.
Maybe because it isn’t just this season.

The amount of posters ignoring his previous poor runs of form is becoming as agenda driven as the nonsense I see in another £80mil United players thread.

He’s far from ‘the worst’ defender in the world but it’s not controversial to look at the entirety of his United career, & more so his footballing career then conclude he’s not been a particularly good signing or captain.

Remove his price tag, the man simply isn’t that good. . .

I think Maguire will shine under a new manager. He isn't of the same ilk as Van Dijk but he is a decent premier league defender if he plays to his strengths. Also ideally we need a sweeper keeper behind him.

Didn't know he was highest scoring defender for England.

Do you wanted Henderson in for De gea then?

I would if he has recovered from Covid.

I want to feel more confident when we are defending corners, crosses, through balls through a high line etc.

De Gea is like a drug - makes you feel good with what it does but ultimately its bad for your team. Spain national team clocked on to this a long time ago.

Van Dijk is the better defender no doubt about it.

However, Maguires mistakes like the one where the ball is bouncing on his head for 5 mins in his own box is something that doesn't happen if you have a Goalkeeper like Allison that isn't scared to come out of his line and use his hands. De gea is a next level of shit.

Passing mistakes happens to everyone. We get absolutely demolished without protection BEHIND our CB'S and in FRONT of our CB'S. Not a single CDM that can do the work of Fabinho in our team. Nor the work rate pressing ability seen in the whole team like players like Henderson or Milner - widely regarded as disssapointing players before such a manager came.

I'm not really trying to back Maguire here - it's just that I think it's really really unfair for the fans to complain about the coaching and management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then take it out on players who have really only played under this manager at United. People complain about the lack of pressing and then take it out on the players who might feel it the most.

If Klopp was our manager do people really think De Gea would be our Goalkeeper? Do you know how much pressure would be released from a Goalkeeper that can come out and try hold on to the ball with their hands when the defenders can only use their heads when it's bobbling up at taller levels than them? What about a manager that has looked at his squad for 3 years and realised his only true CDM is very very old and it has its consequences on the players above and behind a double pivot if you choose to play the older player - or choose players that are not really made for that role at all.

The fact is not a single player has been a true success here because our team and manager hasn't been successful.

At this time it seems our CB plays fine for the national teams but fails for us.
For me I need to have a goalie than can sweep and help instruct the defenders (like good old Schmeichel) and a CDM to cover for the defence (missing for 5 years).
And a coach who can setup a playing style especially when defending.

Maguire's family publicly calling our fans and his critics idiots on twitter.

Wouldn't go down well if that was certain players.

He was good last season but shocking this one.

Never should have been our Captain.

Strip him and give it to Ronnie.

Players are too sensitive these days. Anyone who gets criticised screams abuse as the truth hurts. Same goes for Ole really.

Someone has to explain to me how to goes from being a solid (but not world class) defender to a Lower league defender ever so often. He is a central defender - his game should be consistent. But not sure what’s going on - him and shaw seem to have the same mental issues

Hopefully this stint with England will help him regain some confidence.

I do wonder whether he's been struggling with the pressure of being captain in a team with Ronaldo.

Imagine Terry bigging up our lad to boost his confidence whilst our legends like Keano try to grab headlines with needless outrage. Viva John Terry.

There is nothing wrong with what Keane said, scoring goals for England does not mean anything when you're captain of Manutd team that is getting demolished weekly.

He is captain, he has shown 0 leadership skills in those games.

Most chances we conceded come from his side.

I know what you mean and it would make us a more cohesive team. The flip side of having Henderson in goal would be a defence that actually defends and a team structure that enables them to push up and not be totally hung out to dry by the rest of the team. Then we would concede fewer chances. And who would you want in goal to save those efforts? Surely a world class shot stopper like De Gea. Can we trust Hendo to pull out those blinding saves when they’re most needed?

It’s a tough one because I’m sure Henderson would help the structure and flow of our team but I also worry that even though we’d probably have fewer chances against us, he’s be less likely to save then. Whereas improving the structure of our team and defence would also result in fewer chances. But I’d fancy De Gea to save them.

That positioning for the Salah Liverpool goal last season was seriously worrying too. Although it was probably likely to the extreme pressure of knowing if he screws up De Gea would be back, that led to him doing it. Can’t imagine a proper keeper ever leaving himself as open as that, normally.

I really think he came back from injury too soon. Probably to save Ole. But it has been at great personal cost to himself. He is not worth the money we paid for him. But he is good enough to be in the starting 11. He will come back stronger from the international break. Get rid of the rustiness with a few easy games.
He should never have been made captain. He does not handle the pressure well. And the way he reacted to the goal shows that. Can you imagine Robson or Keane sticking their fingers in their ears? It’s petulant and not becoming of a captain. And it shows people are getting to him. As I’ve said before though, my biggest issue with Maguire is he doesn’t seem to be have the required level of self criticism. After celebrating his goal against Albania he said he was used to the stick, when you’re captain of Man Utd and the team is playing badly you’re going to get criticized. He doesn’t seem to get that he’s not being criticized because the team is playing badly, it’s because he is playing badly. He has done this a number of times. And it’s worrying. If you can’t take on board criticism you will never get better. Which is probably why he makes the same mistakes over and over again. What kind of an example is that to send to the rest of the players? How can they respect someone that acts like that as captain?

Do you wanted Henderson in for De gea then?

Do you want a shit sandwich, or a poo sandwich?

Seriously though, both have their issues, and with our horrendous play, I doubt even a quality sweeper keeper would make such a huge difference at this point. The problems are not a one player, two player, or even three player issues, we're utterly awful all over the pitch and look at sixes and sevens.

With a new management team, I'd go with Henderson till a new keeper is bought.

Imagine Terry bigging up our lad to boost his confidence whilst our legends like Keano try to grab headlines with needless outrage. Viva John Terry.

Terry was not saying that to big up his confidence. Terry only wanted people to know that he was the highest scoring defender before that. Nobody else but JT mentioned that it was Maguire that took his record.

Keane has been right in everything he has said about Maguire. His celebration against Albania was embarrassing. Imagine thinking that scoring a goal for England against Albania excuses all the absolutely disgraceful performances that you have been putting in as captain. He is supposed to be a leader. He is by far the worst club captain I have ever seen at the club.

he has just been out of form. It actually happens. At his best he is a top defender
If he'd been consistently performing like a top defender during his time here that'd be one thing. He'd have built up a lot of credit. The real issue is that he's been here almost two and a half seasons now, and only performed at that top level for half a season.

In his first season he was very inconsistent. Had some great games, had some shit games, overall he was pretty much average.

Second season he obviously started in atrocious form, improved a bit and then truly kicked into consistent great form for the second half of the season.

Third season he has started in atrocious form again.

Just out of curiosity, how many of Harry’s England goals were scored against sides that were not bottom feeders?
