Apart from the mistake in the 2nd half I think he had a solid game. Not the tidiest but was a good game from him. Not helped by having a LB next to him who offers absolutely nothing

Absolutely unbelievable post

why the hell did Ole make him the Captain?
Its not that he made him a captain, its that he did feck all to earn it, he just joined the club. Best part of all, he was promoted by a guy who supposedly know whats United about, United DNA. Previous captains bled to earn the honor for it and this guy got it 5 min after signing a contract, its actually funny.

I can't stand the sight of him. Even he must know he is so far out of his depth now...and all the online abuse, booing etc...it's the equivalent of Amir Khan's soul being punched out of him by Canelo for a £20m payout.

He'll be laughing in his 60s throwing wads of 50s in the air shouting "I was a shit footballer but I'm fecking loaded".
He reportedly had a 63K pound tab at the club in Mykonos where he got in trouble. He might not have much to spend in his 60s if he's not wise!

That goal is so Maguire this season isn't it.
99/100 that one simply deflects away harmlessly or gets blocked. But no, that one has to ridiculously go in.

Someone always cocks something up, doesn’t mean they overall had a bad performance.

Stick Maguire in Citys team and he’ll be rock solid, stick AWB in Citys team and he’ll be one of their most disliked players.

Maguire obviously has his flaws, but this season we’ve taken it to the extreme when it comes to highlighting them and pretty much consistently putting our central defence in situations they really shouldn’t be in. The problem starts at the front but centre midfield is easily one of the biggest issues. It’s a bit like Vidic and Rio Ferdinand when Moyes took over, the opposition pretty much had a highway through our central midfield and again and again the opposition could run at our defence. They went from looking rock solid to 10 years past their due date In one season.

Not sure why people are so desperate to aim criticism at Maguire, he’s far away from being one of the main issues in the squad. Sort out a first team striker, central midfield, fullbacks, then and only then it might be time to consider doing something with our cb situation
Put him in city and watch them crumble to pieces. Never ever would he keep up with citys tempo.

You don't appeal while play is going on round him. He's flat footed enough. Does he think he's more likely to get it right than VAR?
Players often stick an arm in the air when they feel a player is offside, it's a fairly natural thing to do.

The point is he wasn't appealing for a handball against Matic despite what Troll Football would have you believe :p

The question Is why appeal when the play is going on AND you are in the thick of it. Situational awareness is something CBs tend to take pride in.
You've never seen a player put their arm in the air to appeal for an offside while play continues?

I could find any centre back doing the same at some point. Unfortunately they don't attract the clicks on 'troll football'.

Maguire appealing for a handball against Matic. Elanga tackling Rashford and people are still wondering why we won't make top 4 :)

I have to admit I don't like any player putting their arm up for a possible offside. In my experience they do it only if they're 100% certain or they've been caught out of position and raise their arm as a last hail Mary. VAR has been around long enough for players to get out of this habit. If it's a 50/50 decision raising an arm loses a split second of concentration which could make the difference of conceding or not. Just play to the whistle.

What offside was he appealing for them as Lindelof was behind Richarlson?
The original clip showed one of the Everton players was a few yards behind Maguire when the ball was played, leading Maguire to assume him offside. It's a nothing incident, mate. Unless you believe Troll Football's theory; Maguire was calling for a handball on his own teammate :)

So he knew Richarlson was behind him but didn't know Lindelof was standing behind Richarlson and just stuck his hand up in the air rather than attempt to go for a ball three years from him?

Are top class Defender's told to just wave their hands in the air when they have no idea what or who is behind them

Taking you at your word regards Lindelof, but he shouldn't have been behind Maguire anyway.

Maguire raising his arm to appeal for offside isn't even the argument, so stop moving the goalposts. Troll Football claimed Maguire was appealing for a handball against Matic, they were wrong.

I really think he appealed for a hand ball but it's not worth the effort of us arguing in all honesty when the players can't even put an effort in on the pitch.

When I talk about Maguire with United fans in person, the hate for him has become huge. When did it intensify? When he cupped his ears against Albania?

He gets on the ball. Dawdles on it for 5-10 seconds like he's Messi only to play a pass that was on 5-10 seconds before as well.

It's infuriating to watch.

Probably, but I distinctly remember Gary Neville on more than one occasion waiting until a play went dead and then appealing for offside even when we had a goal kick

Why is this thread so busy?

He had a regular/ok sort of game. There's really nothing to discuss.

It’s because the fan base is the most toxic part of the club and identifies him as a figurehead of failure despite being nowhere near the worst offender. He’s the lightning rod that draws the blame for others being shoddy.

Who was it against when Barthez was raising his arm asking for an offside? That was far worse. But I really hate it when players do it.

Probably because he's been shite for awhile now plus he's the captain. The last time I remember anyone consistently defending him was when his form was decent and he was actually solid, and people nitpicked the odd moment when he got skinned. Now it's a regular occasion.

I think it just sums up this season in one move, carelessness by Fred on the ball with the rubbish pass to set it all off, Matic just being swamped because he couldn't sort his feet out, AWB and other players just dawdling back to defend and the deflection off Maguire to top it all off.
