and people who maybe arent so stupid but who constantly publicly criticise players dont help. You can criticise them but feck me stop going on about how horrible they are because shit like this happens.

One random person, on a planet of 7 billion, emailing a bomb hoax, has no relation to over the top mockery or excessive criticism.

That's not me!

I actually think that stepping up is his instinctive approach, not the opposite — he's really aggressive in his playing style. The issue is that he's simply not good enough at judging the situation and does it literally all the time. When he's on form and United isn't on a downward spiral it can look great (one such game was his debut against Chelsea), but he's a calamity at this moment who can't even commit to his decision fully — while his positional awareness was always questionable. So him being to afraid of making a mistake leads to him undercommitting to his usual aggressive approach, which leads to more mistakes.

I think that's a really good assessment. If you're gonna be an all-in defender, you need to be uncompromising in your commitment and that doesn't come when you're lacking in confidence.

I still hope he can come back into some kind of form, but any notion of him leading a defence, let alone the club, seems impossible. I mean even at Leicester, while Maguire was clearly excellent at some things, I still saw Evans as the leader of that backline.

I doubt if any player is worth these ridiculous amounts. Pogba has been nearly as useless - imo.

At least with Pogba he played CL final with Juve and was in World XI in one Fifa awards. Maguire was just a good defender in a midtable English team.

Lucky for Juve then. He hasn't stood out for United. Obviously capable...just cant be arsed.

I don't disagree he has been shit for us, but at least there were reasons for the price tag back then, unlike Maguire.

I highly doubt we will sell him this summer. So next season ,I would like to see him play like his old self but without the burden of captaincy. It's evident that he is not suited to that role.

You're splitting hairs mate.

Neither player has lived up to their price tag, that's a given, but you can't blame hold that against them. Prime negotiator Ed Woodward is fully responsible for that.

Would they still deserve to be here if they cost 20 million apiece instead?

7 errors leading to a goal.

Captain performances eh?

And the fecker has the audacity to say the shit he said.....

7 errors leading to a shot. It's even more but these stats don't count them as mistakes.

7 errors leading to a shot, not a goal. Stats seem very low generally on that basis. Basically 1 in every 9 matches for Maguire. Matic at 1 in 6 is somewhat more surprising, given he isn’t even a defender!

The fact that 4 of our starting players are there, and 3 of them are in the backline, is shocking.

We need a complete overhaul, this whole set needs to be changed.

Ah. I see.

Still, that's a huge number. Also good of Nemanja to retire.

And what do we do with Shaw and Wan Bissaka?

Matic stats are hilariously poor, he played what 20-25% of the mins? Still among the top in the list. Elite player.

Definitely the right decision.

Putting aside sensitivities, it'll be interesting to see how we fare without him. I genuinely hope Varane-Lindelof have a great game so we can put this captain calamitous experiment behind us soon enough.

I mean to be fair to him I'm pretty sure he wasn't factoring in a feckin bomb scare spooking him and his family.
I don’t suppose he was. Doesn’t make what he said any less dopey though.

The worst of Maguire's play won't show up as errors.

All the times he waddles out of defence and leaves a massive space, or all of his wild lunges where he misses the ball and takes himself out of play for a good 20 seconds.

Also the amount of times he's been lucky with those silly bear hug tackles in or around box. Half of those could easily have been given as penalties. The only time I recall him getting called out for it was when he was sent off against Watford earlier this season.

Or the time he picked up Luke shaw and held him in midair so Harry Kane could saunter in and begin our 6-1 mauling. Fun times.

The wisest decision would be to start shipping him out, take advantage of the whole bomb momentum and use it as an excuse to bench him, play some youngster give Jones or Bailly farewell game time or whatever just easy out the process of benching Maguire so when Ten Hag arrives and takes the captaincy off him it won't be as hard to swallow for the squad.

He played at CB at home v Young Boys. Great for the first half hour; atrocious thereafter.

One more player we didn't know how to use. Matic was good for 20-25 mins per game. When he starts, he is poor but as a sub he used to play well.

Looks like by luck club is getting clean break with lot of players moving on. Time to rebuild.

Let’s hope so…

This is why I‘ve been saying we need 2 new FBs as well, but people aren't ready for that conversation.

Lots of twitter stuff about him being taken out of the starting 11 for la Arse match. Hope there's some substance in it.

He has one more season at United. I can see him turning up at Newcastle on a megabucks contract very soon.

I don't hate him, he's a very good player when used right, you can see why Jose would want him. if the defence is deep he's excellent, if there's space in behind though he really struggles. He was much much better than this when Ole was player counter attack but we're defending 15/20 yards higher up the pitch on average.

I think he's on limited time, with all the pressure from fans I don't think anyone has ever came back from a situation like this? i'd love for him to shine under Ten Hag but if anything the way he wants his team to play is even worse for Maguire than currently.
