I thought it was fine, but I have pretty much no expectations from a Marvel film. I went more for the Waititi connection, and I enjoyed it. Bale was great (though indeed he could've been used more), and Portman's arc could've been better exploited... but apart from that, it's pretty much what I was going for, and I was decently entertained. It's pretty much the same film as Ragnarok, for what it's worth, in terms of structure, tone, rock vibe, and I think people's reactions to it are more due to the fact the novelty has passed to an extent. It's a much better film than the Doctor Strange one also, which was terrible.

Don't really care about how it ties in to the MCU or its place in phase 47389 of the series or whatever, as a standalone film it's fine (nothing more) and enjoyable, and the mate I watched it with, who has seen pretty much no other Marvel films, enjoyed it too (though I had to fill in a few blanks for him).

Why are Marvel ignoring Beta Ray Bill? 4 Thor movies and he has only had a brief easter egg. Such a waste to not use the character in my opinion.

Feige has said he will appear in a future movie where he will get significant screen time (think been cut from a previous movie due to limited time )

Before 2008 iron man and some of the first avengers were considered second tier heroes
I'd never heard of Iron Man, Black Widow or Hawkeye prior to phase 1. Definitely think its a bit early to be attacking Marvel for introducing new characters. That being said, regardless of character the overall quality of Marvel's output has taken quite the nosedive recently and I think that's what's underlying a lot of the recent criticism.

I agree for some of the characters, I think Iron man had decent notoriety however. Remember the animated series in the mid 90's on terrestrial TV decent exposure. Also the Marvel vs Capcom video games Iron man was a more prominent character.

It was on Fox Kids, along with Spiderman, X-Men and The Incredible Hulk. Fox Kids had some of the best cartoons going, what a time to be a child.

My biggest thing is that the damn celestial dying whilst coming out of earth and staying there. I want to know the ramifications of that. Cos right now it seems everything has either have to have happened before eternals

I know covid messed with phase 4 releases

I'm wondering if they will go the comics route with that Make it the new Avenger's base the Celestials dead body

Anyway just saw Thor like others have said the main problem was not nearly enough Gorr. It was a good performance they needed to show more god butchering not just tell us. They could have had him kill a couple Egyptian gods tie into Moon Knight lore a bit. I thought the kids had WAY too much screentime. All those scenes could have been cut for more Gorr. I think dropping the kids storyline entirely would work. There was a better film here it just needed refinement and story tweaks for me.

Well I really enjoyed it. :nervous:

Silly dumb fun with a bit of heart
Same. Just come from the cinema. It's nothing groundbreaking, but I like superheroes and I like Waititi and his brand of humour. Mixing the two is a winning formula for me.

My main issue with it is that Waititi clearly didn't want to continue the thread of having Thor team up with the GOTG. Shame, as that could have made a good film in it's own right.

I think the black and white scenes were really well done, clearly taking some visual cues from A Trip to the Moon. And my wife lost it during the mid credits reveal.

Well, that movie was not a good escape from my life and it's problems.

It was a good enough funny movie that didn't take itself too seriously though. Waititi is one of my favourites.

Yeah I loved their dynamic in avengers. Shame it was only two minutes

Having a baby during the pandemic means I’ve seen 2 films at the cinema in 3 years, and they’ve been Jurassic World Dominion and this…. fecks sake.

The Taika quirk has worn out it’s welcome.

Well and truly has. His smugness worked fine in small doses. After this and some bits of Ragnarok, it's as if the man just deals in life and conversation like a 5 year old would.

One word for it, trash  Bale was dope even if he wasn't on screen enough for my liking.
Money properly wasted, the Spiderman looks like a masterpiece next to it

Smug self masturbatory CGI fest.

Disney/Marvel just served up two giant shit sandwiches with this and Dr Strange.

I mean, I don't even mind if you're trying to be a comedy but where were the funny bits? Think I only laughed twice (goats the first time and then when Russell Crowe flounced down the stairs) which is a shame because Guardians and Ragnarok set the bar.

Martin Scorsese was right.

Watching the TV or is it watching me
I really liked it, i watched it with a friend who i watch pretty much all Marvel films with and we both liked it.

It was the right kind of bonkers and nonsensical, is it going to win any Oscars of course not but then not all films should aspire to that either.

I think Marvel fans are going the way of Star Wars fans now in terms of gate keeping, complain when things are to much the same and then when we start to see changes in the films they all say "not like that"

i think the main problem with phase 4 is a lack of avengers movie. and seemingly none planned? the avengers movies were the ones that tied all the strands together. no idea why they've abandoned that formula for this phase.

Sounds like you knew you wouldn't like it and you still went to see it so that you can go on the internet and cry about it.

Oh I suspected it was going to be shit but I took the missus because she wanted to see it. I don't think anyone here is crying about anything, just saying a shit film is a shit film? Is that upsetting you?

I'm sure Marvel have some big plans for Thanos-type story arcs eventually, but it makes sense to me that they'd scale things down for awhile and develop new characters.

The issue is the declining quality of the movies, not the lack of a galaxy level threat.

The irony is all the things that are really shit about it are due to Waititi’s over indulgences. The film would actually be better if it was a more formulaic Marvel movie

He gave himself more screentime as a talking rock than he gave Christian Bale.
