A bit concerning just how much he’s doubling down on Maguire being captain & first choice. He really is laying it on think with the praise. I’m also not sure this desperation to keep Ronaldo at all costs is the way to go with the style of football, and team culture, that he wants to implement.

The rest though, an absolute breath of fresh air. I love his passion and the clear vision he has. He speaks really well and it’s the first time since SAF that we have a genuine modern day, forward thinking manager.
It's not doubling down. He inherited into a sensitive situation. If he even wanted a new captain then there are better ways to handle it beyond rocking the boat from day one. Our whole tour would have been filled with questions about the captaincy drama. Blame Ole for burdening his future successor with a shitty captaincy situation. Should also have been made to earn it organically. There's way too much scrutiny attached to the United captaincy to do that.

It still amazes me to this day that Ole managed Manchester United for as long as he did. So many bad decisions which will take ages to correct.

Interviews alone tells you that ETH is completely in control of transfers...he's handling it like he did with Ajax with being very selective and not wasting money to just buy a player for no reason

ETH spokes very well and says all the right things us fans want to hear. It’s showing already on the pitch too. Long way to go to get exactly what he wants but we will all need to be patient and watch the development of the team.

Yeah it's amazing

What were we thinking?
5 years, no trophy. Before Ole came our crisis was not being able to win anything major. He completely destroyed that and now we cant win anything period. Make no mistake, the current streak with no trophy is entirely down to one man and one man alone, Ole. All the others have silverware to their name no matter how minor.

This isn't an Ole bashing thread, but when you get pumped 5-0 by Liverpool. Then 2-0 by MCFC and both teams went easy on us in the 2nd half of each match, you know it's over.
Ole's plan was to hit teams on the break, much like a newly promoted team would do. He basically set us up as underdogs in every single match we played. We got dominated by the likes of Watford...who were absolutely crap.
That losing mentality has stayed with the players even after he has left.
At this moment in time, I still expect us to get flattened by our opponents in the opening games of the coming season.

Regarding ETH, he is making the best of the situation that he has been dumped into. If he can get us 1 trophy in the next 3 years, it'll be some achievement and worth a contract extension.

The 3rd was on goal difference and went down to the final day to get in the top four. 2nd was the COVID season - empty stadiums and got lucky with Liverpool's/Chelsea's issues.

Funny you leave out 7th last year, at the time he was sacked... Not to mention 0 trophies in 5 years.

Every team had to deal with covid and empty stadiums. Just let it go.

EtH is in. No need to bash Ole for finishing top 4 consistently.

You can’t argue with those extreme Ole haters. They don’t have logic and rational but just bash Ole no matter what. Ole might have certain ceiling as manager to reach the elite level but he is a good manager.
More and more have surfaced by now on what actually happened last season. We will know more in the future.

Precisely. It's a very irrational hatred for a former club legend.

There was clear progress -- especially when he had to deal with and pick up the pieces of a Jose mess plus the legacy players. Its pointless to pick out the last few games of any manager's career at the club -- otherwise, they wouldn't have got the sack. It's the stats prior to the sacked seasons that you need to look at.

At least ETH is lucky in that most of the legacy players/deadwoods have been cleared. Almost a clean slate as any manager has had before.

No manager decides the fee for the player. Its the club's recruitment team that finds the players and the legal team that negotiates the fee based on the given budget. Ole just chose the player cause there were no other options from the recruitment team.

Ole did everything he could to make this team competitive. Unfortunately he was unlucky when it came to winning trophies, otherwise you guys would be quiet about him. Lets leave Ole out of this thread.

Manager's aren't robot. They can say 50M for that piece of players? No thanks, buy me something else.

Even if he's for 10M he's not actually a great player.

But continue making excuses for him.

Last post regarding Ole. Managers dont look at the fee. They just look at the attributes. At that time, AWB was one of the up and coming young rightbacks. That he didnt perform up to expectations since last season is another thing. We shall let ETH work that one out before completely deciding he is "awful".

A good manager who will never get a chance to work in a top 5 league again. He doesn’t even appeal to Scottish teams. Funny that.

I’m liking preseason so far not because of how we are playing or winning games but mostly because he’s testing the players fitness to the limit, making each team play 45mins each and you can tell the players are putting in work.

Also past preseasons youngsters usually got 20mins, 10 minutes and 5 minutes of game time each game. This time they get to play a whole half and experience the flow of the game whether we are winning or losing.

So Rashford is not good enough for a CL club?
This is not the thread to chat about Rashford but I had to reply.

Based on the last 18 months do you honestly think he would start for teams that are in the top 4?
He is lucky Ten Hag is giving everyone a chance. Hopefully this season with a new coach he can actually start to progress as a player.

Nope not ADHD. People who are very analytical and detailed tend to lose focus when it comes to matters not in their area of interest.
I agree, but we could still be talking about ADHD. It’s a complex disorder/super power. ADHD is probably part of the spectrum, so I would not rule it out. That said, I think it’s cool that everyone is different and we don’t need the labels. The labels can help a person with a bit of understanding growing up and not managing it all quite yet.

No other options? Didnt Woodward brag they had looked at 800 RBs before picking him?

Like Van Gaal, ETH is very detailed in the profile of players he goes after.
Van Gaal didn't even consider quality so far its the stylistic fit, hopefully ETH balances both attributes.

Does anyone else think he’s got ADHD or some other thing?
I think we all have to a point. Especially a spectrum by its very nature. And it’s those who think differently that will change the world in future, thankfully it’s more understood and supported these days so they thrive. Back in my day you were just disruptive!

Anyway, back to football and United, yes he probably has :-)

Absolutely my first choice for manager, but mindful of "talk the talk..."

Please be good, Erik.
