Confirmed on Sky Germany after the match that we need to sign more players, because the shedule in the PL is brutal and you need to be able to give players a rest.

After everything, people mentioning Ole have no shame.
Exactly; look at the running stats that were posted, and I would imagine our pressing stats were good, too. Forget about that, my eyes told me that was absolutely nothing like how Ole played.

He made brave decisions tonight in dropping Ronaldo, Maguire and Shaw and it paid off beautifully for him. I'm delighted for the bald frawd.

We need to work on possession as well. Hopefully we can bring in a couple of players and add some composure on the ball with time.

So looks like at least two of ETH's signings from the Dutch "farmers" league - Martinez and Malacia - can be great against one of the best in Premier league after all.
Perhaps we should trust the guy and get him who he wants.

Made some big calls (you know the media was waiting to bring up Maguire if we had lost that game). Loved his goal celebrations as well. The man is passionate, and it is only a matter of time before we get our swashbuckling United back.

Have we finally got the manager who is made in the image of this club?

The difference in how we competed for the ball is huge compared to the two previous games. Hope this keeps up.

Very good first step

Pre season is worthless, he's three games in with a team in such a slumber for 1-2 years. He's brought in some players that will lead by example in Malacia and Martinez and will try to instill this for every game and raise the quality up over the months. Usually takes top managers a few months which is quick so it's not going to be any different and maybe longer.

Roy Keane was almost salivating listening to him on Sky. He ticked every one of the boxes: attitude, workrate, battle, leadership. He said tactics were useless without attitude. It was like Roy handed him a script.

But but the sports scientists said it wouldn't help...

Tbf isn’t this just down to the fact we didn’t have a lot of the ball against pool compared to Brentford ?

He must be happy as feck with the result! And the effort and mentality! But the type of football? 29% possession. A bit curious how he sees us move on from here.
Yeah some of the passing stats really showed we played on the counter, which is fine against the better teams(United at its best has always been a counter attacking team). The worry is what we do when we have most of the ball.

Why do you fall for it every time?
Fall for it? Just replied to comment that mentioned someone using Oles name, didnt reply to such comment directly to "fall" for it. Also this place is well known for going full gold fish mode, so it has to be reminded so Ole cant be washed by certain section, same goes for other managers.

So dont worry about it.

Ah, so you didn't even see it, but just assumed it happened because it fits your agenda :wenger:

The 30% possession thing was very noticeable but it's just baby steps stuff at this moment from a team that's been struggling; controlling games will come later on. Tonight was just about the basics and showing a bit of grit and aggression- you can't just leave it at that and not build from there but I have complete faith he knows this better than anyone.

Small minds have short memories. Good to see some spirit back, isn’t it? Playing to our strengths will do that.

Page 359 bud - some convo there:

Reverted to ole tactics and it just suits these players so much better. He is such a flexible manager it makes me wonder if he will just go to build a counter attacking team, especially now with an elite DM. It is probably his most realistic view to being a success here. He is certainly a Wiley enough coach to do it better than ole and mourinho did it
Agree. Playing “Ole Ball” will do fine for confidence, and it is what we are good at with this squad.

Most touches in our box ever by opposition on Opta records and second most possession. It didn't feel quite as bad as that but he played to our strengths (counter attack and not playing out from the back) and got a great result.

See what? My comment was in general sense, which doesnt require Robbie post being truthful or not, so i didnt assume anything, maybe read it first before acting butt hurt. Fits my agenda , funny coming from you, just saying how it is. Not gonna derail ETH thread more, this aint place to discuss Snake Plisken among United managers.

Liverpool are amongst the three best teams in the world. In time he will want to be on top for the duration of the game. But the game plan was spot on for where we are at the moment.

Casemiro would've made that a lot more comfortable. We still need another midfielder on top though to improve in games, where the onus is on us

I pointed him to P359 where the comments are. He will surely apologise to you now.

I really do think we controlled this game. Possession isn’t everything. And let’s not pretend that we just sat back and rammed the back with 10 players. One thing that was really pleasing was our togetherness in the press. I can’t remember in recent times when we actually pressed as a unit. Sure the last 10 mins were edgy but for the rest of the game, we tactically had full control of the match.
We can’t afford to be this one trick pony though. Obviously against other teams we will have the ball. So we need to be able to adapt to those situations and have a style that suits those games too. But today was refreshing just on passion and commitment alone. Add to that we actually showed some capability to follow tactics and even better.

It was clearly not noticeable at all. Liverpool where just playing the ball in their half mostly. I mean we created so many chances in the first half we should have scored 3 goals. Liverpools only chance was almost an OG from us. I did not watch the game and think we are barely touching the ball.

That's less on him and more the players. You can't play possession football against Liverpool unless you have 11 players (including the keeper) all technically sound and comfortable under pressure. We had about 6 in the starting XI. It'll take time. Plus it's easier to press them and beat them by countering anyways since they play a suicidal line the majority of the time.

I think a big part of the low possession was DDG kicking it long. Which just gives it straight back to them every time, because his long kicking is always very inaccurate. That was an obvious instruction after the Brentford horror show and it cost us a lot of the ball but was necessary. Hopefully we can be a bit less extreme in our next few games and pass it out from the back a bit more than we did tonight.

This is my feeling as well. When Rashford, Elanga and the other okay like today, we are a great counter attacking team. But that’s hardly how we want to play any longer.

Agree with that except the Liverpool we saw today was not top -3 in the world.

It's a good result cannot get carried away. Different teams in the league will ask different questions of this team. I do think however that United will show more promise against top sides not for any specific tactical reason but even under Ole at times the team pulled a result out of the hat. Now there's a manager with far much more dilligence, tactical nous and coaching ability.

I reckon he's been at these players all week. Dragged them in for training on a Sunday, and has let them know in no uncertain terms of how shite they've been. The only possible explanation because I don't believe these players have ever demonstrated themselves as self starters.

I don't think he'll be chuffed with how we use the ball at times, that's not in his style - but he'll be much happier that we have some kind of building block.
