They did not build the car around Lando... Considering Lando said numerous times that the car drives against his personal style/preference..
Not a shock that Ricciardo is leaving at the end of this season, but I do think he will get another seat, I think a few team will jump at the chance.
If they didnt build the car around lando then who? Certainly not riccardo. It was designed around their lead driver i.e. lando. The reasons for the car driving against his personal preferences is due to the stiffness of the car, something no driver can get away from due to how the cars are setup this year for ground effect. Unless you bend the rules slightly and get away with it until this weekends GP and expect to lose 0.2-0.3 seconds a lap of performance.
Mclaren havent designed their car well this season. They played it too safe and the toyota wind tunnel they use is way out of date for modern f1 standards
There was a recent interview with siedl in which he explained how mclaren are trying to fix the issues with car design and their out of date facilities.
I keep reading that so few teams will be able to afford his salary, but doesn't it stand to reason that he will have to accept a significant cut wherever he goes? I mean, he hasn't been performing very well for a while now, and is basically being kicked out of McLaren because of that. Surely he can't just expect to keep earning what he did before?

Yeah, I read that some kind of agreement has been reached. But the next line said that he'll be hard to acquire for some teams (e.g., Haas) because of his salary demands.

Yeah, it's well known that Mclaren have out of date wind tunnel and sim, they are opening the new ones for next season. The Pandemic delayed their original plans.
Sorry but if you really think they brought Danny Ric last year, on the contract they did for Lando to be the "lead driver" given Danny's record and experience... then you are kidding yourself...

McLaren used all Lando’s data in last years car because
a. Danny Ric was at Renault and
b. Carlos was off to Ferrari.
Given this years cars were largely designed in 2020 and early 2021 or at the very least, the fundamental elements of it, it’s not surprising that the car is built with Lando in mind much more than Danny Ric. This is not ground breaking or earth shattering logic.
McLaren hedged their bets on DR managing to drive anything put in front of him but that’s not the case and given Lando is out performing him this year, why continue to invest?
Shit thing for Lando is that despite all of the above, Daniel still has more wins for McLaren than he does.

Seems likely they’ll take over Sauber. Such a shame the finances are setup to make it very tough for a team to enter completely new. Having an extra couple of teams would be good for the sport.
new teams is what the sport need, hopefully they will compete at the top eventually.
Agreed, 10 is not a magic number and the huge entry fee just makes it almost impossible to add teams. That’s why AM, Audi etc. always buy existing entries. Would love to see 22, 24 cars on the grid.

Joining him at the rear of the grid will be world championship leader Max Verstappen.
The other four drivers taking penalties are Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.

No the gap looks as big as ever and the Merc has looked a dog on all tyre compounds, so far at least.
Having to run the car higher will hurt Merc more than the flexi floor red herring with the top two.

Wouldnt suprise me to see max or leclerc on the podium. The RedBull will eat other cars alive on the long straights due to is ERS deployment.
If its wet amd your on the right tyres at the right time, a win for max or leclerc isnt out of the question.
I suspect that won't happen for the one driving a red car...
