Not sure how that's worked out. He lost an aerial dual when Southampton should've scored by way of a flick on from a corner. Maybe it only counts clear 1v1 duals. He also lost a dual with Adams when he just barged him out of the way to control a long ball and got a shot off.

He did play well though and I do prefer a front foot defender.

Very good again today, we really didn't get any control so we needed the defence to make big contributions and to keep a clean sheet is a fine effort. His partnership with Varane looks promising.

He's absolutely fantastic. Great at reading the oppos passing lanes, positioning is on point, harries and hassles everyone and becomes a right cnut when needed. A very intelligent and calming presence in that back four, and you can see how confident it makes everyone else around him.

Still questions over his aerial ability for me but he seems to do everything else really well so I'll take him over the other guy...

Very good today but had two moments in which he was lucky to not essentially give a goal away. Love that he’s proactive though, we needed that bad.

I had my doubts when we signed him. Not anymore. Excellent defender with great anticipation.

He is so good, very aggressive and front foot defender. Intercepts well, wins tackles, wins lot of aerial duels.

Made a mistake in the first half but other than that pretty solid.

I think we've struck gold here, nice job Eric.

Immense again. I'll hold my hands up and say I was totally wrong about him not being able to be a CB in the PL. He might struggle in certain fixtures, but overall he seems quality. Him and Varane together is the bees knees and is the reason we got all 3 points today.

Dude is a fighter, there is no part of him that is going to back down from a challenge even if at times he does get overpowered. The type of attitude that has been missing from our back line with the mental midgets in Maguire and Lindelof.

Winning me over fast.

Yeah he didnt quite reach the pass in behind where Adams I think made the far run behind him in the first half, hesitated and stopped short and Adams had no energy left after the running and didnt do anything with it. And yet despite that one moment of concern he was easily and by far our best player due to how well he did everything else

solid again. glad they gave him the MOTM. Seems this silly discussion about him not being tall enough has died even faster than I expected.

Looks like he relishes the challenge in this United team, rather than crumbling under the pressure. His mentality seems to be infectious too, as everyone in our defence looks more aggressive and aware. Finally a CB who really loves to defend. Strong tackler without being silly, calm and good on the ball and complements Varane really well. Hopefully they'll get a run of games together to build a real partnership.

Other than when he left the ball to go in behind him, he was solid defensively.

On the ball, I'd have liked to see him moving the ball a bit quicker but another encouraging performance from Martinez.

Stats like that don't show his mistakes. But he was still 9/10. Good signing so far.
I think there were one or two instances where he was beaten, but this was his fourth straight match of being relentlessly targeted and he's given up only a few good chances.

Been saying for a year that Lindelof is a defender who doesnt look like he wants to defend. Lisandro is the opposite of that. He's in there next to a guy much taller than him and he wants to challenge for the ball in the air and win the most headers on the pitch. He's next to a champions league winner and wants to do most of the active defending trusting his instincts to win the ball again and again. He's everything you could want from a CB other than the thing that it turns out you dont actually need from both your CBs

Also theres a chance people will run with the narrative "yeah but he wants to attack every ball and that will cost us" like he's a rash looney ala Bailly at his worst. He doesnt play like that at all. Most of the time he's completely measured and assured in what he's doing. Just the occasional stretch and testing of his limits where on a bad day it might not come off.

Dont think that corner was his man though but he was near it. Expected him to be blame for it since he is an easy target because of his height. I was expecting people to use that moment to vindicate all the Martinez is too small talk.

He struggled in the first half against Che Adams, in the second half he was great. I think he's going to adapt pretty quickly to the premier league.

Actually thought he was bang average today at the game. But big fan of his in general and great to see the positivity around him.

Love his agression, and unlike Heinze or Rojo, he rarely overcomits into fouling, will only get better with time!

Maybe it wasn't his man. He would've been blamed if the goal went in though. Perceptions of performances often hinge on things out of the control of the individual player.

Yes it's another case of the Brighton game where they only count situations where both players leave the ground to try win a header. When the defender backs off, or gets held off, nudge off the ball, attacker chests it down or flicks it on with his feet etc. they don't get counted in the stats.

He did play well overall though.

I think that was the Ajax in him. He was expecting the keeper to sweep up, but the ball seemed to stick a little on the ground and of course De Gea isn’t that kind of keeper. Nervy moment though.
