The player would benefit a lot from having more output from his fullback in an attacking sense. AWB is obviously limited, but Dalot as well is rather dull in an attacking sense. Don't get me wrong, he has been a good player for us this season, but having two fullbacks (left and right in Shaw and Dalot) where none of them is some kind of workhorse in the attack is something we should adress.

I agree with some of the mild criticism of Antony but I think, it has to be said, that this criticism shouldn't be directed at the player this early in his United reign. The criticism should be loud and clear towards the decision makers who sanctioned a transfer with such a financial outlay for a player who is clearly isn't in the highest echelon in terms of quality (yet) but also not in terms of potential. I hope, he comes good in the end and the pricetag isn't an additional issue for his development.

He works extremely hard, presses very well and fights for every ball.

Obviously his attacking output needs to tidy up a bit, but it's' not the end of the world. If he's the Ji Sung park to our Ronaldo, what's the issue? all teams need balance

TBF I'm more impressed with Antony than Sancho. Even going on yesterday's performance. He was so involved going forward and as another poster said he fell short with the end product. He'll come good. Needs to accustom more to the prem, which he will do in time, and we could well have a world class player on our hands.

I think it’s fair to say we overpaid and as such it clouds the judgment on how many feel he should be performing. That’s not his fault, Ajax didn’t want him to leave and made us pay an obscene amount. It’s more Uniteds foolishness that has caused that price.

Anyway I’m just biding time before making any real judgments on him. Has some nice moments of interplay and I’m sure he’ll get better the more time he and the others play together and become more familiar with each other.

Whilst Antony hasn't exploded in a united shirt as of yet he has shown he is willing to put a shift in. He has on numerous occasions been in the right place defensively to slow or stop a counterattack . There was at least 2 clear occasions yesterday from cloudy memory where he played his part defensively, one was stopped a clear one on one with keeper so the action was as good as a goal. I have seen enough to be happy with contribution so far as being new and young. Price high ? yes, but we unfortunately have the "United tax" added on every deal. I wouldn't let that sway opinion one way or other at this stage.

You'd have to wonder is he the type of winger who looks better when he has a legitimate CF to put in crosses for. Too be honest Martial is nowhere to be seen in the box when Antony cuts in, he rarely has options to aim for.

We didn't pay that money for him "now" as the finished product. In time he may be worth that type of outlay but obviously he's got to work on being less predictable. Its so easy for defenders to show him the outside now, double up on the inside and close down his shot because its literally all he does. Good news is it wouldn't take much for him to learn how to keep defenders honest - even going past a guy once or twice on the outside and putting a cross in with his right foot (or even outside of his left if he really HAS to use his left) would wake the league up a bit, as would him making runs into the box, or beyond the full back off the ball rather than loooking to take the ball from deep before driving infield. Nothing massive - just little bits and pieces of experience.

Yeah seems to like the big games so far with that debut goal against Arsenal and we'll taken consolation at Etihad.

His work rate and positioning when we don’t have the ball is great.

However, he seems very indecisive when on the ball and doesn’t do enough to disrupt opposing fullbacks. I hope he settles in and gets that confidence soon.

Well, if it is just his confidence then I am not worried at all. But he is what it is then we are in trouble.

We only overpaid if he was a player with no potential at all. If this is the best he could ever do, sure we've overpaid. But that was not what the price was for. He's only 22, not 32.

I swear we're the only club where players just seem to disappear into thin air. Sancho and Antony as options and they're not available

True. Although I’m willing to give Sancho the time he needs because if he comes back in the right frame of mind we’ll have an absolute beast of a player on our hands. Has all the talent.

He’s a bit similar to Greenwood in that defenders are starting to figure out that he’s just going to go on his inside all the time . He might get away with it in the Dutch league but he’s going to have a whole lot better in thr PL
Greenwood was hopeless on his right foot  :wenger:

I’m not completely buying the injury, he played really bad so far after the WC but we’ll see.

A lot of money wasted if he gets injured all the time. That’s 2 of the front 3 that’s injury prone. We’re basically relying on rashford.

Just saw the eth pre game interview. Didn’t want to elaborate on the injury at all. Just a flat “no”

Wonder if he fully recovered. Would explain his drop off.
From what? He didn't play our last couple games before the world cup but trained with Brazil immediately upon arrival. Not sure there was ever much of an injury. personally I think he was dropped with injury being the cover story. I still have high hopes for Antony, but EtH's 85 mil man being dropped wasn't good optics.

If he was dropped, like Rashford, it will have been to the bench. Especially given we have limited options in the forward areas.

He’s picked up a knock I imagine. Hopefully nothing related to his previous absences.
