Yup for all the crap Antony gets, he brings balance to the right side of the team.
This. We sorely missed this yesterday. It was a bit chaotic, crazy game in which we had problems in keeping the ball. Of course one of our midfielders who played like he saw the ball for the 1st time didn't exactly help.

You seriously think so? His rivals this year for the spots are Conte's horrid Spurs, the way they play is toxic venom to the eyes and they have been shocking for most of the season even for their standards. On the other hand you have Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

Think it's a pretty safe bet that if you fall behind those two you are not likely to be any big success. I seriously hope that doesn't happen cause I want him to have some good grounds to continue on next year and cl would be a good start.

If he fails to achieve this behind newcastle and spurs it's not a good look.

Don't pretend anything else.

Just fyi peps first season at city was the year Leicester won the title and they only just scraped top 4 on the last day v lvgs United. Arsenal, spurs and Leicester came above them. He's done alright.

Also, City came second the year before. We were fecking abysmal last season.

Not as simple as just starting Sasquatch but also playing our most inform scorer on his weak side and having a quality player like Sancho benched for Alejandro. Whatever has happened to Sancho he is now back and he needs to be played especially now that Antony was out. His experience and creativity was desperstely needed and you saw it as soon as him and Facundo came in. So Erik did redeem himself a bit with the subs.
Sancho was ill, that's why he didnt start.

You got it wrong.

Pep's first season was Conte's first season with Chelsea which Chelsea won the league.

It's Pellegrini's City that edged out LVG's United during Leicester triumph season.

Klopp not good comparison as it's already clear his liverpool have collapsed also he already won practically everything you could win with them so he has some leeway for being so shite.

Ten hag is here his first season and right now if you see how it's kind of helping him a bit how bad chelsea and liverpool are it's opened up a path for CL for him and my honest opnion is just simply if he's a good manager he will take that opportunity.

You will see yourself the hypocrisy on here if he doesn't make it 90% will say it's embarrassing he got outdone by Eddie Howe and let's be honest it will be, anyone saying anything else is fooling no one. Remember that this is just hypothetical scenarios I don't hope or think it will happen.
You're just producing your own feelings and opinion on others in the future.
Not many people will say something as silly as that.

Absolute bollox. Some of you are fecking nuts. Did the whole Ronaldo thing pass you by? Do you think, maybe, just maybe, dealing with all the shit he caused and losing Martial for basically the whole season has made things a bit tricky for the manager? Or how about Sancho needing a mid season sabbatical? ETH has had to cope with an absolute shitload of adversity already this season. And tonight, of all nights, we’re getting posts like yours. Piling onto the guy after coming from 2 goals down to draw 2 all, in a match without either of his first choice CMs, his back-up DM, first choice striker, or first choice RW. I mean, fecking hell. Take a moment to think before posting.

It's insane. He is actually claiming he hopes he has grounds for continuing into next season

Not in touch with reality. We Missing a load of players, haven't a functioning midfield because of Injuries, but I'll come in and bash the manager.

OldTrafford is buzzing at the moment, it's like they watching in a parallel universe.

Yeah, we’ve struggled for goals. Could that possibly be linked to all this talk of ETH wanting to sign a new striker? What do you reckon?

And yeah, ETH can count himself lucky to have defenders who tackle and a goalkeeper who saves. Jammy git.
I'd leave it. That poster is a lost cause.

Literally all the outside factors have fallen into place for him this season to be able to secure CL qualification. If he's not able to make it I will start to worry he's not up for it.
Like the queen's death meaning our game was rescheduled (and I'm sure others weren't)
Or eriksen being injured by a guy that should have been sent off

Or the palace game being rescheduled right before arsenal meaning an extra game before Arsenal where casemiro of course picks up a yellow to miss the game v arsenal

This luck stuff that people mention is crazy.
Newcastle performing the way they have has been a surprise (as has arsenal)
Chelsea will improve next season for sure but there's no guarantee Liverpool will unless they get in about four or five players (which will need new owners)

Eth has had to deal with the Ronaldo nonsense too.

IMO the only mistake ETH made was going with Rashford on the right. However, there might be a few reasons for it:
- Sancho is not match fit (very likely)
- ETH doesn't like right footed players on right wing (I suspect that is the case and the reason why Pellistri wasn't getting any chances and Sancho is played center or left wing)
- our other options are atrocious (I would still go for Elanga there if Sancho is not fit, our main threat comes from Dalot anyway)

Anyway, Erik knows Rashford position isn't on the right, but he needs to figure it out quickly.

Wout is a poor footballer but what else are we going to do? Playing Rashford 90' at CF isn't a solution as well.

Anyway, we didn't lose that game because of attack being poor, we lost because of xGA=0,6 for Leeds and them getting 2 goals of that. We were crap defensively and lost the game in midfield again. And there is nothing ETH can do about it in current circumstances.

Erik has restored my love of watching United. Success may come, but really, what I wanted was to feel a proper connection between the team and fans.

Haven’t been able to get to OT regularly due to family illnesses but can’t wait for the next game. It’s a whole different feeling and you can sense the belief that we’re finally on the right path after so many stray years.

Hopefully the Warthorse experiment is over, now we’ve got Sancho back and Pellistri is getting a few minutes under his belt. Sabitzer / Fred is going to have to persist for the next 2 matches which is unfortunate, but not much he can do there

The only thing he got wrong last night was starting Rashford on the right.

He's having to deal with injuries and suspensions in the two areas we are most light, and while he all know he isn't good enough WW up front hasn't really been an issue when Rashford starts on the left. He does need to be taking more chances but I also don't understand not putting any crosses into the box when he was there, cue when he goes off we start throwing loads into the box. We missed Antony last night, and hopefully Sancho can play more minutes as he looked very sharp last night. No Eirksen or Casemiro is killing us, Martial being constantly unavailable too. I thought Sabitzer was good but Fred really let him down. Genuinely, replace Fred with another midfielder and we win last night. Can't wait to see what ETH can do when he has a squad that actually has good depth.

I’m glad we’ve got WW but we should be using him as an alternative rather than first choice when we have Rashford, Antony, Sancho and Garnacho available.

Already discussed to death on multiple occasions in this and other threads.

WW was so easily marked and offered no threat running in behind Leeds defense, and in the channel. They was comfortably pushed their line high, and pressed compactly. This limited our out ball and made it difficult for us to build up. Most of our dangerous play was to/from left wing, which Garnacho end product left much to be desired.

WW off, and Rashford up top changed the dynamic of the game where we could easily exploit the space behind their high line from different angles. They were forced to back down and gave up most of their pressing game. Gave out more fouls, throw in, corner nearer to their box, beside us working our way in open play into crossing position.

WW was huge part of the problem. Perhaps, with full strength team, he could be carried to some extend. But he's an extra burden on top of the weakened team. Fingers should be pointed at him too. Not only to his teammates for issue with chance creation for this games, and the last few games where he started.

I am making so much because fecked off with drawing on another midweek game where we could have got closer to top two, however just like Palace we blow a big opportunity.
This is such a spoilt view. Our schedule is more packed than any other team and we’re missing multiple crucial players in this current run of games. You could see the lack of depth on the bench tonight.

The players are tired and we’ve come up against one of the most energised and anti-Utd teams in the league. This can happen. We still should have even won the game so have some perspective.

I don't know how anyone can't be happy with him or how we're doing this season. I don't think I've enjoyed watching utd this much since Fergie retired. I actively look forward to our games again. For quite some time it was more of a "I guess I'll watch the match cause it's Utd even though I know it'll be crap". People just can't fecking be happy, I guess.

I think some people don't realise how well we're doing just to be in this position. I know we spent big in the summer but so did our rivals and we're fairing better than Liverpool and Chelsea.

When you consider how poor recruitment has been in the past, and the players that have left (Pogba, Matic, Ronaldo) it's a miracle we are where we are! The squad is painfully light in a few areas, any injury or suspension has a huge impact on how we can expect the team to perform.

EtH can't work miracles, he's having to constantly find work arounds and apply short term fixes to long term problems (e.g. a GK who isn't comfortable playing out from the back).

We just need to get through this busy period with as many points as we can, and hope we don't lose any more players to injury.

All teams lose points, but it's about HOW you lose points.

Statstically we dominated
Injuries to our key players
Unfortunate with the own goal
Playing every 3 days

These things happen, and we're a pretty good football team these days!

Definitely. Also think he’d actually have more of an impact as a late game sub than he is at the moment. Too slow/game passes him by right now

Missing key players in the weakest part of our team is always going to be a big problem early in ETHs process. We were without Martial, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony, awb and mctom. No first choice striker, rw and two central midfielders. Also we were forced to play a barely match fit dalot at right back.

It's not the end of the world. Unfortunate result like palace and arsenal but if we win at their place I think 4 points is solid from the two games against Leeds scum.

Brilliant manager but the last few games have been poor results contrary to the performances that have deserved a win. The team need to keep the winning momentum going. Draw was a terrible result last night.

I get all of that, but we didn't even try it once. While you play a certain way most of the game because of the players you have available and how they are playing, that doesn't mean you don't try other things. While we were a lot better after the changes, I would still liked to have seen the wide players and full backs give them something to think about. At least throw a couple in to force their line back and create that bit of doubt in their heads. Numerous times in the first half Dalot and Shaw got to the by line and then ultimately cut the ball back. While it was understandable I just wanted to see some variation and at least force the opposition to think about their defending a wee bit.

However, no doubt, far better after he went off. And for what it's worth, across the front I'd go Sancho Rashford and Antony (if he's not fit, Pellestri, I like the look of him and he's an actual winger).

Fred and sabitzer had a poor game, defence was bypassing them and they weren’t making themselves available , so game shifted to wingers. Leeds overloaded it. We just don’t have the depth. Fred/sabitzer have to improve significantly to get anything from Leeds and Leicester game imo
He was fine, he had his hands tied behind his back. He is not a 1 man midfield and that is why we got beat.
Fred on the other hand shouldn’t be wearing the shirt, he is beyond diabolical.

For all the tactical and subs talk, yesterday was basically the players not doing the basics : not be asleep when starting a fecking half of a football game. We got punished because the players were careless. ETH must be fuming about it.

I don't think you got it when here you repeated that we didn't try.

The issue as explained, is that we struggled to pin Leeds down with WW, getting our best crossers into crossing position. We're not getting enough corner, or throw in with WW to start the basic before we're thinking about trying different things. If we're to build from the back, we were rushed to move the ball when we bypass Leeds pressing, and WW often slagged behind the play for an early cross in these break away.

We must see a different game because Luke Shaw, Dalot especially didn't have chance to do much in Leeds' half when WW was on the pitch. Shaw most of the first half had to tuck narrow as a pseudo midfielder to offer a passing option, because WW failed to threat Leeds defenders. So Leeds comfortably pushed high and compact to press. Dalot at best made support run, and not received the ball in position to cross.

After WW subbed off, we could systematically stretch Leeds defense and pin them back from time to time. Our CBs then stepped onto Leeds half and help moving the ball, freed the full backs to attack getting cross in, square ball across the goal, pull back for midfielder, winning free kick corner...

if he can't finish top 4 over eddie howe's newcastle I simply don't think he'll be any huge success here
Have you seen how much the team has improved? In spite of so many issues such as having shit owners, the club getting sold by the owners, dressing room issues, Ronaldo trying to make things difficult, Sancho needing a break in the middle of the season, Not having backup strikers for Martial, and Ronaldo leaving, having a GK who isn't suited to his style of football. ETH literally had an impossible job on his hands at a club where Mourinho and LVG failed, nothing else matters as long as he finishes top 4 above or below any team, the fact is this team is far far better managed than what it was by any of our previous managers since SAF retired.

I think the criticism of Weghorst is unfair, he was not the issue yesterday. The midfield was. There was a gaping hole in front of the defense: no one to play the ball into and no one covering in defense. It will make any striker suffer.

Someone needs to drop down between the defenders: usually that is Casemiro or Eriksen. Sabitzer should do it.

Just to add to that, I think we would have gotten the 3rd goal if we could have kept Dalot on. But he had to be replaced, which meant no more crossing from right.

And not just 2 CM, VdB was not available and Sabitzer had to be taken off when chasing 3rd goal.

I can't speak for giflord opinion, I don't agree with the lucky thing on the contrary some things have been really unlucky like casemiro gone 3 games or that pony tail geordie scum who put eriksen on crutches. Only thing I would say is lucky for him is pretty much that chelsea and liverpool are out of the equation for top 4 which gives him a better chance.

You know that teams can improve over time right? Why post a dumb opinion like "EtH will never be successful" if a certain thing happens when there have been multiple mitigating conditions, and the progress has been clear to see despite that? It's just dumb.
