You know what, it'd be nice if just for once he sucked it up and turned out for our next match. Not holding my breath though...

We now need two CFs this summer. One can be a cheap backup but what’s clear is that we can’t rely on Martial to be no 1 or 2.

Again, people keep saying this, but how? He’s got a year (?) to run on a £250k contact and can’t stay fit. No one is going to buy him, and he’s not going to agree to give up that kind of money. So we’re stuck with him.

He is clogging up wage bill so just go out and get Thuram/Dembele on a free in the summer

He’ll still be clogging up the wage bill though because we won’t be able to get rid of him. No one’s going to pay money for him and he’s not going to agree to terminate his contact. We’ll be stuck with him until his contact expires. Another genius Ed Woodward renewal.

What are the odds of him being available for Sunday, game after Sunday and the rest of the season ?
Ain't it crazy that when he returned Rashford got injured and when Rashford returns, it's him who is off injured. It's like they're cursed not to play together consistently

Can't see how he stays here beyond this season. We will be lucky if we can get 25 million for him.

If we can sell him and greenwood to partially fund a new striker, that's the only hope.

He can't hack it here, if he can't fulfill the basic requirements of being fit

He dropped deep most of the first half and couldn’t get into the game. We could barely string 2 passes together other than the usual brain dead back and forth between Maguire and Lindelof. The urgency from those 2 is non existent. Even when we went 2 down they still done the same slow passing which resulted in Sevilla closing them down and hoofing it up the pitch. I thought playing out from the back was supposed to lead to more control. The midfield barely got involved. We couldn’t handle their press all game and it’s just the same old story that we are used to with this team and the same mistakes we’ve seen under Ole. Don’t play from the back if you don’t have the players. Clear as day the difference when Martinez and Varane are on the pitch. Most strikers would struggle in this game for us. The injury was a joke. This season just needs to end now.

This argument being made for him that when fit, he’s a top striker, is madness. He’s woefully inconsistent. Relying on him would be so foolish.

that’s the problem. He can’t get a proper run in the team without injuries. The last time he’s done that was in the 2019/2020 season when he scored around 25 goals. But I do not think he’ll ever become the player we all thought he’ll be. I think there is a Ballon Dor clause in his contract; that’s how highly people thought of him. At best, he can be a back up striker. Will that be enough for him? Don’t think so. I think be’ll eventually leave

he's not a top striker but we do look better when he's win. Thing is we just cant rely on him and he needs to go. It was, what, 2 games he's been fit and he's injured again. Baffling.

I agree. We’re a different proposition when he’s fit. That tells a story. Just not that we should be persevering with him.

Of course. That train has already left the station or should leave it. Thing is we might need to buy 2 strikers if he leaves. We might do that anyway but no point in keeping him anymore sadly.

As much as I love a fully fit Martial and will always love him for his debut vs pool, if I was Ten Hag i'd sit him down at the end of the season and tell him that he is surplus to requirements. The fact that he has consistently been injured makes him unreliable and even when he comes back as good as he is it still is a far cry from the player that we had in his first 3/4 years here. Whilst I would have him as a backup, he's still not reliable to be fit as a backup as well as the fact that he is on high wages. I say sell him and look to bring in a similar profile player but younger that we can work with as a backup to a top no 9.

Must be one of the first do leave in the summer. To think he was loaned out to Sevilla but was sent back to us as they saw he was a waste of time. A waste of a fine talent down to a weak mentality and dreadful injury record.

When ETH was asked recently whether he'd be here next season, he was non committal.

I think it's been proven that his body can't hold up to the intensity of top level football.
Even though he's been decent since his return, it's good fairly obvious he's reluctant to really sprint, and even us fans start bricking it any time he appears to attempt anything strenuous.

It's a shame because Weggy should really not be anywhere near this level of football

I've made my peace with Weggy, he's literaly been brought in to be a body upfront for free and will be gone from our sight in a few weeks anyway.

Yeah I agree on the sprinting, he's either too scared to go full pelt or just can't. Tbh I do not remember the last time seeing a full pelt Martial, so i'm leaning towards the latter being true.

Anyone who genuinely thought Martial was the answer to our problems up front for the rest of the season, seriously needs to give their head a wobble.

Some of the comments ive seen online the last few days are laughable.. Some people have very short memories. We have 8 years of this sh*te.. He's not going to change.

He always has a spell of looking really sharp, after a few games he reverts back to the norm where hes anonymous for a good stretch and we are basically missing a man up front, just dandering about... then he'll prob get injured. rinse repeat. The lad has quality in there, but its just wasted and we cant wait about waiting for him to show it.

he'd had more than enough chances in his time to show his worth.. He should be one of the first out the door imo.

Watching the second goal it seemed that Casemiro lost his man for the goal, but behind him Maguire bulldozed sabitzer and knocked him into Martial who was then lying on the floor injured,

Yeah, that's hard to take isn't it?! :(

Im still laughing

What a shitty way to start the second half. Im not even 100% clear what happened here. It looks like Maguire shoved Sabitzer into Martials legs and took him out.

This. Please everyone, let this go. We sign another No 9. He leaves, or he just sits on the bench. Even when he is good, he isn't as good as some make out. I have never understood why some on here seem to think we can win something like the Premiership with this guy leading the line. It's a £250k a week joke (thanks Ole).

An average player imo. No other top team would take him. None. Why on earth he should be considered good enough for Man United is beyond me. The fact that he is seen as an 'improvement on Weghurst' says everything about where he is now in his career.

I can’t believe he’s been with us for eight years. We still treat him like some raw rookie talent, when in fact he hasn’t shown anything to suggest he’ll be a CL level player on a consistent basis. When is his contract up?

I agree. Two CFs and 2 MFs and maybe a CD and maybe a RB. It's going to be an expensive summer. Such a shame for Martial given his talent that his body is letting him down at arguably the most important part of his career.

Who is saying we should rely on him?

The question is whether we try to sell him and hope we can find someone who will give us money and pay his wages (good luck), or if we keep him at least one more season as a back-up striker where he probably rotates with Rashford depending on Martial's fitness?
