Rip. Break time it is. Suspended in the FA Cup semi final so he can't even redeem himself there. That's literally his United career legacy last chance down the drain with that shit show.
Let's be honest, his legacy has been cemented for a while, he's the biggest clown and worst transfer we've ever made.

Playing with Maguire at his best is playing with 10.5 players on the field (he's slow but heads the ball & can pass a little), at his average self it's playing with 10 players (too slow to make meaningful defensive impact and too timid passing), and at his worst flat out makes the game a 12 vs 10 against us.

Don't think any of the top 10 teams in EPL would touch him.

Even if DDG shares the blame evenly, the fact is Maguire has whatever confidence issues Fernando Torres ended up with at Chelsea. His confidence has to be absolutely shot at this point, and he cannot be trusted anymore. I believe he probably wants out at this point to salvage his career elsewhere.

He’s just irredeemable at this point. Best for everyone if he goes this summer. He can’t play in this system and his ego won’t allow him to be a bit-part squad player.

Wtf are you even talking about. First goal should be shared between the chuckle brothers and his role in 2nd and 3rd goal is hilarious.

Apart from all that, him being glued to line is a big problem for every single set piece.

After that performance, I don't know how anyone can say De Gea wasn't the biggest reason is beyond me.
Because Maguire is obviously the biggest reason, he called for the ball recieved it, then gave it away and conceded a goal within 3 minutes, in a hostile stadium.

He may as well of handed the game over to the opposition.

De Gea second biggest reason.

totally agree. Harry is mentally in a very bad place and continually promoting him into the team ensures that nobody wins. He clearly loves the club, but is unaware that he’s not sufficiently skilled to play top tier and now has the added pressure of bags of horrendous mistakes - put him out of his misery
Loved the club so much he went abroad during a global pandemic as club captain and got himself arrested.

He either doesn't care about the club or is an absolute incompetent idiot. I'm open to either option!

He'll regain his form somewhere else.Just another one who doesn't have what it takes to make it at UTD i'm afraid.

My favourite parts of this thread is where he’s been out of the team for a while and a bunch of posters start to convince themselves he has a place in the squad, has something to offer, can do a job, not such a bad player as everyone says.

Then he starts a game against semi organised opposition and the whole thread goes to shit.

Still the most inexplicable piece of defending I have ever seen.

Horrible performance but can kinda see what he was trying to do it was just the wrong option and all he had to do was shield, turn and take the ball through and he’s just beaten the press and has options. The whole defence just looks awful with him in it.
Doubt we’ll be able to move him on, maybe player plus cash for Smalldinho

Well there is clear and obvious evidence he is at fault. There is evidence from Betis game that a top passing CB can take that ball, Martinez clip has shown that.

Which is why Maguire is mainly at fault because we have seen a United player take the ball in the exact same position and beat a 3 man press.
He didn't even need to beat the press. It was a massive fecked up by CB. A pass straight at Lamela. It's insane that DDG was even in conversation.

He didn't even need to beat the press. All he need to do was just to boot it out.
This is what he should have done - just booted it behind for a corner. The pass he got from DDG was so poor and bobbly that anything else was highly risky.

Maguire is decent on the ball in terms of passing but he is not going to cruyff turn attackers and run away from a press. We can’t expect him to do that - what we can expect is for him to recognise and play the percentages, which he failed to do for the goal on Thursday.

He doesn't have to be a Cruyff. With that amount of space, probably not to pass it straight to Lamela right in front of him, would be another solution.

Not be a Cruyff, do a cruyff turn - effectively flick it behind him with his right foot from this position and turn so that he’s going away from the defenders. Of course, there’s other ways to turn away as well.

However, whilst it looks easy here, the reality is that he hadn’t looked behind him and didn’t know if there was another presser coming in or not. He is also not a player known for his silky skills. The only option which wasn’t high risk given his body position and DDG’s pass was booting it out for a corner.

Edit - apologies, I’m not great at posting pictures but the frame that shows the position better is about 0.5 seconds before this one, and it’s better shown from the camera behind Maguire. That’s the point at which he has to make a decision about what to do, when the ball is bobbling towards him.

Needs to go, obviously. Not only is he atrocious, but he's so calamitous that he makes the players around him worse as well. Everyone plays with less confidence when slabhead is around.

Weren't we told by the ingerlund fans that he is a ball playing CB whose comfortable with controlling/passing the ball?

Wow
Harry Maguire isn't Sergio busquets shock horror.

Even so note that busquets gets the ball Infront of him given him the freedom to do as he wishes with it really, he is able to control before worrying about changing direction. Maguire gets a slow Bobbly ball behind him has to stop dead with all his weight going the wrong way just to make contact with it. He can't just spin with it because he and the ball are going in opposite directions he wouldn't be able to protect it at all.

If he gets it on the side he moving too the side he wants it than yeah he could probably spin with it the opposite way infact he has done this before, it may even of been what he was planning on doing or at the very least because he wouldn't of turned his back on lamela wouldn't of played the ball straight to him.

As a centre back on the edge of his own box, he shouldn't be doing Cruyff turns even if he could do them. Its asking for trouble. De Gea should not be playing that pass and he most definitely should not be playing such a poor pass.

All he had to do is let the ball run, takes out the first two pressing him in one swoop and he doesn't touch the ball! None of this is on DDG in my opinion.

Easy to say in hindsight but if he plays it directly away from the camera here then Wan Bissaka can run on to it and even if he doesn't get to it at least it's then lost out wide rather than directly in front of goal. De Gea should have known better than to play it to this lump though, I'm still putting the majority of the blame with him even though Maguire is a dipshit.

Bag of nerves and cracks under pressure. Not good enough for United obv, but think it'd be good for him playing for a less high profile club

He is still a danger to us as a bit-part player. There is a lot of damage a bit-part player can inflict in the bits and parts he is involved in first team action.

Yes, I agree with you entirely. DDG shouldn’t have passed him the ball and primary responsibility rests with him. However, once DDG did play the pass, Maguire should have assessed the risk and taken no chances - hack it straight out of play somewhere.

de gea should not have given the ball there with two men on top of him.

text book really.

people saying Maguire should've dropped the shoulder and did a cruyff turn or some shit :D

tell me you've never played football without telling me you've never played football.

there simply wasnt enough pace on the ball from de gea's pass to pull off such a move.

de gea should've just cleared it.
when Maguire received the ball with his back to play he should've just kicked it out of touch.

There was tons of space there. Any professional player should be expected to be able to pass not the opponent there. The passing from DDG was at good pace that easy to control. All of Maguire opponents were not challenging him for the ball. He had time and space to pass it right, or at the very bottom of barrel of professional player expectation, not to pass it directly to opponent.

But yeah, we're just going circle here.

De Gea had an easy pass to Wan Bissaka on, he should have ignored Maguire calling for it, not because passing to that position was necessarily the wrong choice, but because passing to Maguire in that position was the wrong choice.

Can it not be that both things are true? It was a dumbass decision from De Gea to make that pass, and Maguire compounded it with equal dumbassery when he received the ball because he panicked when he needed to stay calm.

Neither are of the required standard. I hope we have the good sense to replace both of them this summer.

True. Passing to AWB would be a better choice. DDG only mistake was he got used to passing to Varane and Martinez.

He has the habit of tackling/pushing our own players in the penalty area, he has zero awareness and panics very easily.

Nothing wrong with that pass, he panicked and that was the error in this sequence of play. Defenders panicking in itself is a concentration lapse.

I sure hope you’re right, the common factor being the combination of these two simply doesn’t work, yet we’ve had to endure this nonsense for nearly 6 seasons!

We need to replace Maguire because he does not fit into how EtH wants to play and in general, creates a lot of uncertainty & panic when he plays - both with & without the ball.
On the goal, both DDG & Maguire were culpable. DDG should not be playing that pass, because 1) There is no real advantage of playing that pass as it does not leave Maguire many options to progress play 2) he knows its Maguire & not Martinez
Maguire is then culpable because even with the pass, he had enough options to navigate without creating a dangerous situation. He could have 1) booted it out 2) received and try to turn with the ball 3) Shielded the ball and let it run. Instead he panicked and played a nothing ball.
In today’s game, we need defenders who do not panic when they receive the ball in tight spaces if we need to build up our play better. Even GKs like Ederson & Allisson play their defenders into trouble but their defenders are still able to retain possession and progress the play.

This would make a great title for a documentary about the Woodward years.

not all on him, but that speaks volumes about how the entire team is with him on. He’s a loser. Makes everyone worse. Time to go.

He is just extremely clumsy. Pulled Shaw to the ground, kicked Pogba in the head and injured Martial by pushing Sabitzer onto Martial his knee.

He doesnt do it on purpose but these kind of clumsy accidents always seem to happen to Maguire.
