This is when you need a director of football to come in and say we back the manager 100%. Players who are not on board can leave.

You get rid of all high-wage players who don't perform consistently (rashford, sancho, varane, casemiro, eriksen, mount, antony, maguire, martial) and bring in young players on decent contracts who are hungry.
That's a plan for having us relegated.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
Yes. But only happens under a structure where DOF actually operate like DOF to take responsibility to recruitment. You don't expect Murtough to spearhead squad building when he's no experience doing, since Moyes did all the heavy lifting at Everton, and Murtough is only the paper guy for Woodward.
I mean, we are basically agreeing we are a mess, aren't we?

Players complaining the training is too hard speaks volumes.

This is Man Utd, not a Sunday league side. If the training is too intense, bugger off to a lower division.
I think you are totally missing the point. Training too hard means that you will go into games with heavy feet. It's not about being lazy.

We are, it in this thread regarding ETH, he is now contributing hugely to this mess with his baffling decisions. At a well run club, he is very high on the list to be one of the first out of the door too, since he had gone against what is expected of him: playing principles.

Just feels a bit like when the going gets tough the tough get going..

You either back his decisions and disciplined style or you wobble and side with the players when the results turn sour.

Do we need a reset and change in culture? Like Arsenal when they moved on Ozil/Ramsey/Auba and stuck with Arteta?

Interested to know what people’s thoughts are.
We’ve had a culture reset, we’ve moved on:

Lingard, Bailly, Pogba, Telles, Henderson, Grant, De Gea, Tuanzebe, Williams, Ronaldo, Elanga, Fred, Greenwood, Jones, Pereria, Garner, Chong, Mata, Matic, Cavani.

Who else needs moving on that’s upsetting the culture? These are new players in the last 18 months. How can they all need moving on already? Or are we just exclusively talking about the players we don’t like now?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Change the players, not the manager for once.
The actual definition of insanity, is illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality.
You know like the fantasy that we don't change the players, from the reality that we change players with every transfers window and the fact that over a 4 year span almost the whole squad is changed. That is insanity.

Which also leads to a higher occurrence of non-contact injuries. Coincidentally, the exact kind our whole squad has been suffering from all season!

England:
Without excusing the quality of the recruitment, this just underscores how badly we are run.

We appointed him with the following statement:

John Murtough, Football Director, said: “During the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proved himself to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, renowned for his team’s attractive, attacking football and commitment to youth."

And then we have him 400 million and made him do a job he wasn't appointed for.
Attractive, attacking football. Well he’s absolutely fecking failed with that.

The 'leaks' are as predictable as anything. I could have wrote the stories yesterday with no inside knowledge, we've seen it all before. I wouldn't believe everything but it's obvious on the pitch that all is not well.

Until we replace the spine of the overpaid dross of a squad we have with players in/coming into their prime it will be the same old story.

Ten Hag has had to make some big decisions (Ronaldo, De Gea, Maguire, Sancho)

Pretty much all of the forum backed him and welcomed the disciplinary style. Rashford was dropped for being late, Garnacho didn’t play much in pre season for similar.

Now here we are.
Bang on and there in lies one of the major problems for several years. Whether its the ownership and/or contracts these players are on....a few managers have failed to move on all the players they wanted to. And still there are players in the squad who dont seem to have a great attitde or winning mentality, a few of them have been here under several managers as well now.

And what happens....the dressing room down tools on the manager, the manager get scked and in comes a new manager.

I am not sure or saying any of the managers have actally been the answer, majority never were for me before they started actually....but no manager can turn this club into a sccess nless they are allowed and have the balls to do what Ragnick suggested, open heart surgery, move on a lot of this squad and that incldes big names and buy a lot of players and the right ones as lets be honest, no manager has actally bought well so far.

As you state most fans wanted Ronaldo to go (I was 50/50), DeGea to go (reluctantly I did), Maguiure to go (I still do) and Sancho to be banished (I still do)....yet now this is changing to the manager.

I cold count on one hand the players I believe in at this club to take us forward and that has been the case the maority of seasons since Ferguson retired.....so regardless of my thoughts on the managers we have had since, it is the players need moving on before the manager and bar two managers, that has been the case since Fergson retired too

Explain please. Whats wrong in the treatment of Alvaro ?
Alvaro won the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year in 2022 and was then sent out on loan to Preston for a year with Erik telling him that he wanted him to get a more expiriance before joing the first team, after his year at Preston where he won the Young Player of the Year award he reurned to Man Utd and played alright during his appearances in pre-season trying to earn a place in the first team only for Erik to tell him he wasnt part of his plans and to find another club then signing Reguilion to cover for Shaw and Malacia instead with Alvaro having to leave for Granada in deadline day.

What an awful way to treat a hard working young player who has done everything asked of him and wants to play for club while people like Rashford and Martial get to play despite putting little to no effort in.

The solution is Sancho, Rashford, McTominey, Shaw, Martial all out on their arse so the new manager can have a clean slate and a chance to work with players who are ready to play for him and won’t cause trouble at the slightest provocation.

That list have been here too long and are senior members of a toxic dressing room. Out they go with their mate Sancho
Shaw? Really?

These lads will turn on the next guy as well. Let him clear out the piss-takers.

You think you run too much in training and he was mean to Sancho so you take the piss on the pitch?

Anyone with that attitude needs to go regardless of who the manager is.

It's game over for him, you don't recover after reports like that.

I think the turning point for the players must've been when he fell out with Varane
Depends if they are true or not, mind.
Not so sure he fell out with Varane, tbh. Seen no proof of that.

It is, and it’s unfortunate but it’s been coming for a while now. You can’t go to war with multiple players and then have them remain at the club, Fergie would but they’d be gone almost right away, I guess there’s a time and place to pick your battles. I don’t think it’s just Sancho, the treatment of Maguire, McTomminay, Varane and De Gea hasn’t been great and will have ruffled feathers, especially as he’s brought in replacements who are not better than the players he’s tried to exile and then played them no matter what their form has been.
Just curious, what mistreatment did he do against Maguire and Mctominay

There are people who think Martial still has something to offer. The whole squad needs to be dismantled and rebuilt just like what Arsenal have done.

ETH might not be the man to do it as the evidence so far suggests. But feck it. I'd rather see guys on up to an above a 100k a week who are onto there 5th manager shown the door before him.
Problem with this is, because he has wasted so much money and seemingly mismanaged the ones he has signed, he can’t be trusted to do this

Just had a gander on Reddit: The vast majority are supporting ETH over there.
When there is no newbie/promotion system and slack in moderation, anyone can pose as fan (that's before multiple account from same poster tactics to update/downvote opposition opinion).

Take popular opinion from there with extra pinch of salt.

I’m not sure you have a valid point outside of trying to get rid of players you don’t like.

We need more players for sure, some of these players aren’t good enough to start for United but could do a job under set circumstance.

Throwing around words like culture reset because Rashford and Martial are still here doesn’t make much sense. We won’t have any good players left if we continue down this path.

Do any of them actually look particularly tired? Rashford can sprint forward without a problem but refuses to track his man. That's not tiredness.

This doesn't make sense. Every club that has ever had success has sacked multiple managers prior to the success they achieved. Otherwise most clubs would have had the same manager for decades

Exactly this. I think the varane falling out is probably what broke the camels back and the players are now calling him out for his poor man management
What exactly is the reportedly Varane fallout? I remember if being a vage rumour. When did it become "the truth"?

From good sources, they’ve been doing mostly hard running in training and next to no technical work, which explains our ‘style of play’.

I don't have much faith in ETH's squad management but there is a massive gulf between Preston and United. Chances are he just isn't good enough.

All absolving the players of any responsibility. How convenient... Forgive my cynicism but this just sounds like self-serving excuses from players who aren't performing.

How can you possibly build any familiarity with passing moves if you spend all your time doing running drills? Isn’t it the managers job to coach this stuff or are the players supposed to work this out themselves?

True, I think it's a long way back to the top, he's only been in the job 18 months. It takes 3/4 years to build a team that's going to be successful and competitive over a number of years. During that time there's going to be periods of bad form, but once the plan, direction and process is clear. You can decide to stick it out or pull the plug and start again. Which is when you end in that endless managerial merry go round of bounce and sack every 18 months.

That's why I'm still of the opinion I'd rather see ETH stay and get rid of most of this squad than see some of this lot go through the same process again. There's no point sacking him unless that background setup is overhauled.

Either way, stick with him or sack him, Utd aren't going to be competitive for a good while yet, it's a process that's going to take 3 or 4 years. That's not just to get all the transfers done, that's getting the team built and having everyone on the same page on the pitch, to the point where there's relationships and understanding all over the pitch.
