Brilliant episode. The only loose end is Kim's story now.
This is well-said and it's why I prefer Breaking Bad. Obviously you know Walt isn't going to die mid-season but everything else is on the table, which can never be the case in a prequel. That said this series has been absolutely fantastic and when taken as a whole (BB, Saul and El Camino, which was just fine) it's among my favourite TV ever. I love everything about it, even Anna Gunn's Skyler!I’m going to slightly break with some of the above comments, don’t get me wrong it was brilliant but once Jimmy talked Lalo into letting Kim go instead of him, there was no jeopardy.
We know Jimmy lives, so he’s gonna be fine, we know Gus is who Kim is being sent to shoot and we know he lives. We also know the house is under surveillance by Mikes people and they’ll see Kim coming.
Again with the scene in the laundry/lab, we know Gus isn’t dying so we kinda know where things are going.
It was executed fantastically well, but it’s hamstrung by being a prequel and us knowing certain people can’t be harmed.
That's what I've been thinking. With how close the two shows are in timeline it wouldnt be credible for Kim to die and Jimmy to have been so chipper in Breaking Bad. And if she died it cant have had anything to do with Gus or Mike, because he's still happily dealing with both of them.4 episodes remaining is a bit mad though. I'm still unsure whether Kim will end up being killed off or just decide to feck off away from Jimmy. I feel like if Kim was to die then Jimmy would have been a much more messed up character in Breaking Bad instaead of smily, happy Saul.
Unless Gus has her killed but doesn't tell Jimmy, letting him believe she left him. That would give every interaction between Mike and Saul in BB a much darker feel. That's what I've been thinking. With how close the two shows are in timeline it wouldnt be credible for Kim to die and Jimmy to have been so chipper in Breaking Bad. And if she died it cant have had anything to do with Gus or Mike, because he's still happily dealing with both of them.
I think Kim does a runner or even something like witness protection.
Assume you mean a few episodes back.Regarding Kim, it's worth remembering that a season or two back, she got the vet's contact book and the details of the vacuum cleaner repair/new identity guy
It's a 4 year gap to BB's start(2008) from where we are currently (2004). Plenty of time, I mean Walt went from where he was to where he ended in 2 years in the timeline. So you know, certainly plausible in the universe. That's what I've been thinking. You're right! I've watched so much BCS recently while waiting for the season to resume that I got lost. Of course, the reason they were visiting the vet was to get the pupil dilating/sweating drugs to make Howard looked like he was on coke. watching that plan unfold was cracking entertainment.Assume you mean a few episodes back.
I kind of like this style though, rather than watch a 5 minute shoot out where they miss every shot like in James BondHaven't seen episode 9 yet, and I thought episode 8 was good, but didn't anybody else thought the actual shooting between Lalo and Gus was a bit iffy? It was just a few seconds, but the way Gus manages to reach the hidden gun felt cheap and not particularly well shot, which is a criticism you almost never can level at Gilligan's stuff, although I've always had the feeling pure action scenes are not his strongest suit.
I didn't like it either, but once they went down in the hole it was always going to end up like that, since we knew he had a gun hidden there.Haven't seen episode 9 yet, and I thought episode 8 was good, but didn't anybody else thought the actual shooting between Lalo and Gus was a bit iffy? I did as well.I totally expected Walter White to come through that Saul's office door at the end.
Decent episode, bit slow, but they were always going to give us slow scenes after the last episode.
Saul's wheelchair parking tag expires in November 2008.So how long did we just fast forward in the blink of an eye at the end there? 4 years?
Decent episode but slow churn after the last one and Kim’s story seems like they suddenly realised they only have 3 episodes left and needed to get to a position where she wasn’t in the picture anymore.
They’re going to have to give us more on Kim, are we expecting her to turn in in Gene’s timeline?
Feel like she might go down/confess to Howard's murder or something. So do you reckon we've seen the last of Kim? I'll be slightly underwhelmed and more than a bit sad if we have.
JesusSaul's wheelchair parking tag expires in November 2008.
Walt's in the BB pilot expires December 2008.
Between that and Saul talking on the phone about public masturbators (which is what he thought Badger was coming to him about) means we're probably right up to the day or week that he meets Walt.
I wondered about that but in BB Mike seems to genuinely like him.My favourite part of the episode was Don Eladio saying he saw hate in Gus’ eyes, just a little bit is ok but not too much.
Two scenes later we see exactly the same look from Mike looking at Gus and Gus almost smiling as he understands that although Mike definitely hates him, there is a business understanding that both abide by.
I wish it was more indulgent at times. It’s ludicrously over indulgent at times. So many scenes could be cut in half with the same impact but it does still have brilliance dotted throughout. Though it is helped enormously by having established characters from its predecessor.
It’s incredibly well shot, no doubt about it. But when you rush over a major character making a major life decision to watch Nacho’s dad sew, I think it goes a little far.I wish it was more indulgent at times.
I could watch an hour of Gilligan's montages of coffee, morphing to a lamp, morphing to a plate, to blood on the floor etc. it’s mesmerising.
Yea the timing on Kim was for shit agree, I said the same above. It’s incredibly well shot, no doubt about it. But when you rush over a major character making a major life decision to watch Nacho’s dad sew, I think it goes a little far.
The parking tag thing I saw on Twitter but the other bit I noticed myself.Jesus
Have you read stuff elsewhere or do you just notice this shit?!
Touché mate. The parking tag thing I saw on Twitter but the other bit I noticed myself.
I think we see her next episode.Thought my TV had skipped half the episode there. Is that it? That was Kim's big ending?
A woman's life ends when she breaks up with a man.I think we see her next episode.
I watched a video analysing how Gus actually prepared for all that happened in the cave (losening the electric cable, counting steps to the gun and hiding Gun and pointing to the spot Lalo was) and I felt like I didn't payed enough attention to appreciate the shooting that happened since I felt it was weak too before watching that video.Haven't seen episode 9 yet, and I thought episode 8 was good, but didn't anybody else thought the actual shooting between Lalo and Gus was a bit iffy?
