Still think he has a way to go, and everyone has been premature with this 'he's easily our best centre half' theory.

He's still all arms and legs too often, and is poor at heading. He will be a top centre half though, I'm confident of that.

Yeah, better second half. Was he the one that hit it long to Ibra for the equaliser? Was a nice long pass rather than a difficult one for Ibra to guide.

That was Pogba. Co-commentator thought it was Bailly too.

Now we know how Chelsea fans probably felt in 2006-2009 when half the team seemed to be at the AFCON :( and its just one player for us :(

Considering he has had a couple of lengthy spells on the sideline, I think he did quite well. Also, when we went three at the back he did well. Given the quality of the Rojo and Jones partnership, I think this AFCON has come at a good time for us - it allows him to get match practice without it being at the expense of our current partnership.

It's bizzare. The guy was being hailed as our best centre back after about 6 games!

Like you, I think he will become a very good defender, but he has a lot of things to work on before that happens.

Let's hope Ivory Coast draw all their games and exit at the group stages so we get our Eric back nice and early.

He is our best centre back.

Who's better?

Smalling was being compared to the second coming of Christ last season yet is seen as more Maidstone United rather than Manchester Unitedd quality this season by many fans.

I just think a dozen or so games is too soon to be calling him our best defender.

He's definitely looking the part, but I've been burnt too many times in the past to over estimate a players ability level after a only a few months of competitive play.

When's he back? Best and worst case scenario.

If Ivory Coast go out in the groups, then he's back for either the 2nd leg against Hull on 26th or the FA Cup tie against Wigan on 29th. Hull game might be a bit too soon as the last group game is on the 24th.

If they go all the way to the final, then he'll be back for the home game against Watford on 11th Feb.

Going by the latter, he would miss: Stoke away, Hull 2nd leg, Wigan FA Cup, Hull home and Leicester away.

If Ivory Coast fail to beat Morocco on Tuesday, their tournament is over, which would mean Bailly being available to play in the league match vs Hull at latest. Perhaps even the FA Cup tie, if needed.

Fair chance of that happening, Morocco is no pushover.

Assuming Ivory Coast go all the way and win Afcon, when would Bailly be back?

I love him and miss him and I really want him back. I know it's a cliche, but he'll be like a new signing when he returns
