F1 2021 Season

Still buzzing from that McLaren 1-2. Wasn’t sure I’d ever see one again :D:D:D

On the Max/Ham crash, I agree with the majority of the posters views on here. A racing incident, with Max more to blame. He has to go for the move, and I’m glad he did as it’s entertaining, but should’ve realised that Ham would squeeze him and he’d end up over the sausage dog curbs.

We see that attempted move year in, year out around that chicane, and more often than not it ends with the guy on the outside going into T1 having to use the escape road or the cars colliding at T2 with a myriad of different outcomes. You really have to be quite far ahead turning into T1 to be able to make the move stick, and even then it’s dicey.

Glad they’re both OK. I don’t agree with the penalty for Max, but I didn’t agree with the Silverstone one for Hamilton. Or indeed the Austria one for Lando or the two for Perez later in that race.

The various noise from both teams & drivers about blame, rights & wrongs is pretty tiring now too. It’s all an attempt to get one over the other and it creates a bit of drama & popcorn-munching GIF type attention, but I’d rather they just shut up & got on with it now. It’s petty & distracting from one of the best racing seasons I can remember for a long long time.
I like your balanced view. But I disagree that Mad "had to go for it". The move had zero chance of success. Look at the video posted earlier of Ricciardo.

As a casual F1 viewer, I'm getting the impression that it's going to take Max actually killing someone for him to take any responsibility for driving like a clown.

New ferrari PU for turkey or austin. 10bhp-15bhp more. Its for 2022, but they want to get more data on it now in races.

Could be the different between them finish 3rd, 4th, or 5th in constructor this year.
Its a tight battle between them, Mclaren and AT, although AT can only rely on Gasly so far.

Just to keep the fuel on the fire, Danny Ric showing how to manage turn one at Monza when you can’t make the 2nd corner.

Now I’m fully appreciative of the halo device etc and understand it’s importance and think it’s great, but it needs to be said that a lot of these “close shaves” that are now being pointed out, didn’t happen before the introduction of the halo in F1.

you can actually clearly see from this incident that the halo in it’s current design actually causes a larger issue because it prevents Max’s car from rolling off Lewis’s car and actually holds the rear tyre on Lewis’s helmet.

this thing needs a massive re-design because it is now demonstrating a serious design flaw that could have been much worse than the incident should have been.

These so called close shaves are random events such as car bouncing on the curb and launching in the air, or a tire detaching and flying into driver's head. You cant possibly claim that these are now happening due to Halo's introduction ? In this case , whatever after effect the halo had, ir didnt cause Maxes formula going over Lewises.

Jesus Christ…

Events that proclaim every body to preach the halo even though these same events occurred prior to the introduction of the halo and nobody died because cars didn’t get stuck on additional massive surface areas close to a drivers head. Given the inherent design of an F1 car, generally cars just slide off the other which is far safer than the scenario that occurred on the weekend.

Again, in case some people replying to this message lack basic reading and comprehension skills, I am all for the halo but it’s got a clear design flaw which was evident on the weekend and it needs to be redesigned.

We won’t even go into the fact that it nearly saved and killed Grosjean in the same incident.

This is an incredible overreaction. It clearly needs a re-design to protect from the back for this type of incident, but I would hardly say it’s a serious design flaw and importantly the halo did more to protect Hamilton than put him at risk in this particular incident too. It’s very rare you’ll get in a crash where the speeds are slow enough for the car to rest on the other car.

And yes, people do call out these close shaves more. Better than calling out disasters though.

The thing that really pisses me off about stuff like this it that the team has given him the best car on the grid this year, he should be kissing their feet, but when they make a single mistake he’s like this. Imagine if when Max makes a mistake the race engineer would come on with the same. I get that it’s emotional but this doesn’t show great maturity and I’m sure it would annoy the pit crew. Other drivers do this too of course, but the mature ones tend to be a bit more constructive.

I think there’s plenty to throw at Max, but I probably wouldn’t put this on the list. As you say, all drivers do it, and this particular outburst was probably more “colourful” let’s say, but not really out of the norm.

Should have been more clear.

He had to either try the move around the outside and bail across the kerbs once he realised Ham was going to squeeze him (or do the same as the Ricciardo effort). Or the smarter move would’ve been to follow through the chicane and slipstream Ham up the straight to the next corner.

Yeah, I agree. He’s pissed off, but anyone would be, especially in one of the most intense championship fights for years.

No doubt once he got back to the garage and cooled off a bit he made good with the GP & the team.

Very possibly, perhaps I'm judging too harshly but I can recall people like Lewis and Seb saying stuff like "Guys, come on" rather than the tirades you hear from Max.

Yes that’s also true. I dunno, I think it’s all in the heat of the moment. It’s such an emotional vacuum inside the F1 car, I think I can probably let him go for it.

True. It seems to be the skill that is missing from Max's racing.

Max is just a bit more sweary that's all. Swearing in the Netherlands isn't seen as a big deal, they swear on live TV all the time

Obviously he's frustrated and realises he's just had the chance of extending his lead over Hamilton thrown away - I don't blame him for letting it all out in the heat of the moment.

You also don't hear all of the radio broadcasts live - they filter plenty of them off TV. You're only hearing this one because somebody decided to post it.

Just watched the Schumacher documentary on Netflix

I thought it was very well done, I remember him being my favourite driver when I was growing up, though can't remember his races that well

The fact he went to Ferrari and was such a key part in taking them back to the top was probably what cemented his greatness. Hamilton is obviously a great as well, but I'd be really interested to see what he could do in a team that needed taking back to the top.

Also how he treated all members of the team even people like the chefs and thanking them and considering them all to be important and staying late to work with the mechanics on the car

The end is utterly heartbreaking, if I hadn't put so much effort into not doing so, I'd have cried. The photos of him with his family and hearing them talk about him was what did it for me.

Seeing the old footage also shows how far the cars have come in terms of safety. Also the tracks safety, the fact there was a concrete wall for Senna to go into is horrifying. It also makes Schumacher's skiing accident all the more cruel that he could survive all those races at a time when safety wasn't anywhere near what it is now, to then suffer that accident that left him a fate worse than death in my opinion, while enjoying his retirement

Just seen it myself and enjoyed it.

I was actually the opposite when Schumacher was winning, it put me off F1. I think also I couldn't forgive him for that Damon Hill incident.

But was really interesting to hear his humble origins and really sad to realise just how bad the state must be that he is in now. Poor guy and such a shame for his family.
I hope Mick does well.

The Monaco Grand Prix will scrap its traditional Thursday running next year and switch to a three-day format has announced F1 boss Stefano Domenicali.

F1's glitzy showcase event in the Principality has historically always kicked off on Thursday, a schedule initiated when the race was first held over the Ascension Day weekend which included a Bank holiday Friday.

For practical reasons, Formula 1 opted to maintain over the decades Monaco's traditional timetable, with Friday remaining an action-free day to allow shops and local businesses to operate normally, and residents to move around Monte-Carlo freely.

But as the sport devises its 2022 calendar, Monaco will come in line with F1's classic weekend format, a move that is believed to also facilitate logistics with the Spanish Grand Prix earmarked to take place the weekend before Monaco.

They should just forget to show up at Monaco, do a luck dip to declare the results and save us all the hassle.

There main issue is the MGU-K which they want rid of, most of the teams seem like they are coming around this for the 2026 engine regulation changes, it makes sense they want something that is developed to be used in cars in the future and present.
Question is whether MGU-K and MGU-H will ever realistically translate over to road cars. If not they are an unnecessary expense for the manufacturer.

Mercedes announced they will be putting MGU-H in the next generation of road cars.

Not sure how i feel about it beig dropped, personally think it's great technology and getting rid of it is a backward step really.

This video is where I found out about the engine regulations, it’s adaption to road cars couldn’t be anything like what it’s used for in F1. Also it would be nice to have the lovely loud engines back again for a while before F1 goes hydrogen or electric in the future

Good video. Politics will play it's part. Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari hold all the cards as F1 cant afford to lose another engine manufacturer.

Miami GP will take place on May 6-8 in Formula 1 2022 on new track around Hard Rock Stadium; Rest of 2022 calendar yet to be revealed, but 23-race schedule expected

The event will make its F1 debut with a race around a circuit that is under construction, around the city's Hard Rock Stadium.

"There is no doubt in my mind that the Formula 1 community and the sport's fanbase worldwide are going to be amazed by what they see next May," said Miami GP CEO, Richard Cregan
The Miami GP is joining the F1 calendar on a 10-year deal

Imola looks set to become a permanent fixture on the F1 calendar from next year until the end of 2025 at the least.

The circuit made its return to the sport in 2020, stepping in to host a race after the global pandemic forced many to be called off.

It was then added to the calendar again in 2021 for the same reason, taking the place of the Chinese Grand Prix, which was cancelled due to travel restrictions.

The circuit was generally positively received by fans and drivers alike, with many calling for it to be giving a permanent spot on the schedule in the future.

A leaked calendar claimed that was being considered with the sport deciding whether to have a race there or at Paul Ricard in 2022.

On Thursday, Stefano Bonaccini, the president of the Emilia-Romagna region, confirmed that a proposal had been presented to the sport.

“As a region, we have been successful for some time when it comes to bringing in sporting events of the highest calibre, and I hope that we will soon have a fixed round of the Formula 1 World Championship at the Imola circuit,” he said.

“We have submitted a proposal to the government in response to the race in 2020 and 2021. The idea is to have a permanent place on the calendar from 2022, for many years to come. I hope to receive a positive response to this soon.

“It would be a historic and fantastic achievement and it would be great for all the fans and residents of Imola and Emilia-Romagna.”

Dump Paul Ricard circuit its crap and gives me a headache with it's stupid coloured run off areas.

Max decides to take a new engine so he skips his penalty by starting at the back of the grid instead. Feel like the rules should be changed so the penalty is valid for the next race instead.
