Not being in the CL in the season concerned was due to circumstances beyond the club's control (i.e. Chelsea fluking it), but the point is that Spurs have finished in the top 4 twice in recent years, which gives the lie to your claim that Kane Spurs can never experience CL football with us.
Yes, Spurs have shown the ability to occasionally qualify for the CL, so it is certainly not impossible, but just not that likely.

If Kane manages to keep his form on his current level and maybe even builds on it, he will become a player who will at least look for a club which offers regular CL football. Players of that calibre might stick with their clubs for a season without it if they see it as an abnormality, but if the outlook is less promising they will be gone sooner or later.

If Kane develops as hoped, the only hope of Tottenham for keeping him is to become a stable part of the league´s top 4 and probably even do at least decently in the CL. Otherwise I don´t see him sticking around longer than 2017 or 2018.

I agree that most would say no. But things can change. And one change on the horizon is the new Spurs stadium complex, which will increase our income by a fair whack from a variety of sources, including sponsorships, and enable us to compete financially on a more even keel.
Well you still haven't got that stadium funding (so confidently predicted to arrive about 5 years ago). Our stadium build impacted player expenditure and league performance (and other builders have suffered more).

If he'll have more seasons like this one (and I'm pretty sceptical about it) then I don't think that his ambitions will be fighting for 5th/6th in EPL and being knocked out by some Spanish team in EL.
He loves Spurs sooo much he's gonna fanny about in a u21 tournament against his manager's advice.
We'll see. Not every player has a Sterling level of self importance. Alan Shearer springs to mind.

Oh god not another threat of a top four challenge from Spurs.

If Spurs couldn't get into the champions league, even when they finished fourth, then isn't it best just to accept that God, the baby Jesus, Buddha,Vishnu, Odin, Zeus, Allah, the jade emperor and the ghost of bing Crosby don't want you there and pack up your bags and just go home.

They poisoned your players you didn't get the hint, they literally moved heaven and earth for Chelsea to pull off the most undeserved and improbable champions league win in history to prevent you getting in, it doesn't bear thinking about the horrors they would unleash on the Spuds if it looked like they were heading for another top four challenge.

Don't do it, think of the children.

I think he'll stay until at least the new stadium is finished, because I think he'll want to play for Spurs in that stadium in 2018-19.
Is he a fecking architect or something? What player gives a feck about a stadium?

I'm not sure there really are guys like Shearer or Le Tissier anymore.

Totti seems the most loyal of the last 10 year and Roma won and contended more than Spurs have and will.

Yes, we do have stadium funding, which is why construction is continuing after the delay caused by the CPO saga with Archway Steel.

We've completed Phase 1 of the project, the T-shaped building which can be seen to left of this photo and now stadium ground works are underway ... you can see the beginning of the boundary of the new North Stand in the photo.

You called the new stadium pie-in-the sky a while back, which I'm afraid doesn't square with the construction reality so clearly visible.

He's Spurs through and through. So of course he'd want to play in a fantastic new stadium in front of 60,000 Spurs fans. I'm not sure why you find that so surprising.

Because the stadium will never be the most deciding reason for a player to stay at a club. I would not mind if that would be the case given that the most outstanding feature of my club is probably the stadium, but it is simply not realistic. Players like to cite this as a reason to stay at a club and in some cases it can have some influence, but success on the pitch, money and prestige will normally always outweigh it as factors. It is a nice bonus especially for homegrown players, but nothing more.

Tottenham won't finish in the top 4 anytime soon simply because Chelsea, City, Arsenal and us are far, far richer. Period. Essentially City have replaced Liverpool from the previous big 4. And I just don't see how that will change unless another proper sugar daddy enters the league.

It's one reason among several - not the main reason - why I think he'll be with Spurs for several years to come. Kane strongly identifies with Spurs, is still only 21 years old and does not strike me as someone who is especially motivated by money.

Yes, I've read your other posts in the thread. It's just that believing a new stadium could play a role in making him stay is hilarious. He wouldn't have a feck about it if he wants a move.

The only 2 things that could make him stay long term are a) you grow as a club and make the CL consistently at a minimum and b) if he values his association with the club far more than the chance to play at a higher level, the chance to win things, stature and ofcourse, money.

It's very rare for b) to play out so you must hope your club improves. Can't see it though personally which is why I think it's inevitable he'l leave in a couple of years IF he keeps this level up.

It's all down to Levy. When he wants to cash in, as he most certainly will, perhaps this summer if there's a bid of over £40m. How long the player want's to stay is irrelevant - this is Spurs remember - they always cash in going way back.

Everyone is motivated by money when presented with the opportunity to double their wages.

He absolutely could stay at Spurs in the medium term, if they consistently match the pay he would get elsewhere. I don't believe the best paid player at Spurs earns even half of what the best paid players earn for the top 4 teams though.

Who is Spurs best paid player and what do they earn, out of interest?

All this assumes he develops into a top player of course.

Do you have any interest in football outside of top players and the money involved? I swear that's all you ever talk about...

Unfortunately Adebayor is (by far) our best paid player, despite being the least deserving. Not exactly sure what he gets, but it's somewhere in the region of £100 - 120k per week. On the bright-side his contract has only one more year to run.

Expect some fantastic performances from him then.

Dodgy end to the season.. sounds ridiculous, I know, but I'd rather he stayed at WHL for another year or two. See if he's the real deal or not.[/QUOTE

Seen too many one season wonders to go big this summer based on one season. A great start to the season and we could get him for the same price in the new year

I think he may struggle next season... Post season trip to Australia, then the u21 then almost immediately into pre season and in pochetinos team there is typically a lot of running / pressing required from the striker.
It's going to be tough for a young player to replicate his form next season... Though from an England perspective I hope he does

Perhaps, but for now his goal-scoring has continued, with 3 goals in 2 games on this post-season trip to Malaysia and Australia.

 .... a photo taken when he was how old? Probably aged less than the 11 years he's been with Spurs.
He's celebrating the title Arsenal won at White Hart Lane. Yes he's probably a Spurs fan now but Spurs through and through? Really?

To be fair to him he explains it as him training for Arsenal kids and they were all told to celebrate them winning the title.

If you search hard enough you'll find him celebrating another trophy in our yellow kit. This time he had the good grace to go to our ground instead of yours for the party.

Don't delude yourself into thinking he's a Spurs fan mate. He's a Gooner just like Bale was and he'll be on the first train out of there like Bale was if any big club comes in with the money for him!

That picture was taken months after Arsenal released him and there's one even later than that!

Haha didn't know that. So he's not Spurs through and through.

For example you wouldn't find any pictures of me in a Liverpool/ City shirt. Only United. Then again I never played in any team's academy.

Wishful thinking I'm afraid: I'm quite happy for any club to waste their time this summer trying.

I have no doubt he'll be at Spurs next season. No big club will take the risk with the money you will expect. I think Kane will probably leave in 4-5 years on a bosman unless he repeats his form in the next season or two and tempts someone to pay the big money for him.

He's a good player and he's yours, enjoy him. I just don't know why your fans always need to pretend these players are 'our of your own' (Kane) or 'born to play for Spurs' (Bale) when they're not. They're Gooners who ended up there to advance their career.

Kane spent a year at Arsenal aged 8, and then spent a short time at Watford's academy. In comparison Kane has been at Spurs for 11 years and has come up through our academy system, so yes, of course he's one of our own.

Oh, if you're singing about how he came through your academy then yeah, he did.

To me, it always sounded like your fans were suggesting he is, like you, a Spurs fan which obviously isn't the case.

Fair enough.
