 People really need to check their Fellaini exuberance.

He had a good game but he's still nowhere near good enough. Let's not forget O'Shea and Alan Smith used to have the occasional blinder playing in midfield as well.

As I said in Bailly's thread , the evaluation of players here is too reactionary and completely based on the last game only, either in praise or hammering. One good performance is enough to the raise player to the Moon and vice versa.

He had a got game but he's nowhere near the success here. The number of games he made us frustrated is more than those in which we praised him . Him present as a plan b when things don't go right is horrible for any top 4 club. I'm still not confident of him at all as a DMF setting in front of defense .

I won't mind him as a back-up option for some purposes but definitely not a plan b option used when we're losing. Jose used him well in last game and if he keeps using him that way I'll have no problem with him being on the bench. Just don't start playing long balls to him for the sack of it as it's annoying and extinct football.

In Moyes' first season he played through injury and joined without a pre-season plus nobody played well that year.
In LVG's first season he was a key part of our run in to achieve top 4.
In LVG's second season he again was one of our more consistent performers in midfield. Maybe only Carrick was better than him?
In Mourinho's first season he's been ever-present in a side we all agree are playing our best football in years.

Not to mention he's scored some big goals for us.

When you say 'nowhere near good enough' ... good enough for what? Ballon D'or? On Sunday Fella absolutely dominated Matic and Kante, that's good enough for me.

I wonder if Madrid fans have this same conversation about Casemiro.

Nowhere near good enough to start regularly for a title-winning side.

Madrid fans won't have the same conversation because Casemiro's clearly the better player.

Do you think we are not in Title race because we play him?

What you said about Moyes season doesn't make him a success this year , contradicting your statement of him being good for " 3 seasons " here.

He was only good in LVG's first season but overall in other season he just blinders here and while the rest of season was filled of frustrating performance for him.

I don't know he's consistent in Jose's team and his relation to our style of play. He was dropped to the bench since Lecister city in first half and has been only used as a sub or when injuries happen or for rotation. Our best football came with Herrera , Carrick and Pogba in midfield this season.

Comparing him to casemiro is an insult to the later. Casemiro is much better it's not even close. When he don't play ,RM midfield fall to pieces , Fellaini dropping never got that effect on us , on the contrary, dropping him makes us better.

What is the definition of good enough to start for a title winning side anyway? Before this season did Victor Moses, Marcos Alonso and all qualify as good enough to start for a title winning side? Not even Moses would have thought that. Cleverley wasn't good enough to start for a title winning side either yet he did. Before last year none of the Leicester squad were even considered good enough to play for a top 10 team yet they won the league

This whole 'not good enough to start for a title winning team' is just nonsense frankly.

Partly yes.

I didn't expect the point to be taken so literally. Yes, you can win the league with mediocre players but that doesn't change the fact that Fellaini is mediocre. There are at least 20 midfielders in the league you'd play ahead of him.

Sigh..
He is a squad player.
The manager plays him when he needs to give other players a rest, or like today give him a specific task.
Judge him on that. What do you think of him as a squad player?
I think he is very valuable to the team because he offers physicality when we need it, doesn't complain (much) when he is on the bench, and he follows managers' instructions closely which helps us tactically.

it sounded pretty literal. "Nowhere near good enough to start regularly for a title-winning side"? Thats still not the point. We could play 20 midfielders over casemiro as well. even if you believe that he played well yesterday because our team played better then surely that means he will be quite useful when our team is highly functional?

Fellaini still has a lot to prove in my eyes, but he had a fantastic game on Sunday. Considering how everyone raves about Kante, it was telling that Fellaini made him look three-feet tall, in more ways than one. He won the ball back so many times and his distribution was good, too.

What's impressed me most is how he seems to have improved his mentality. He doesn't look like he's going to get sent off anymore, and seems far more composed on the pitch.

Fellaini has to play to his strength which if he doesn't know yet, here it goes. Stay deep and cover for Pogba and Herrera, play safe short passes and when the time for corners come, march forward and get that ball to the back of the net. He can play for some more time if he manages to do this. As part of his skillset, i believe he can steal the ball very well, set a counter in motion, intercept more often. I would love to see him perform well. He's a nice guy!

This. Credit where it's due, but the OTT praise on here is laughable. You'd think it was a Zidane Vs Brazil in '06 performance or Keane Vs Juve in '99... Fellaini wasn't even in the running for MOTM.

I doubt anyone is claiming Fellaini is the direct reason we aren't challenging for the title this season or over the last 3 years. Our problems go beyond any one player in my opinion.

But having said that if we had better players especially in midfield to regularly challenge and win league titles then i doubt Fellaini gets many if any games in that scenario. And it's the same story in some other positions too, the current squad is still a bit off being able to challenge for or win the league.

Yeah, it's just those praising Fellaini who go over the top...

The problem is Fellaini should only as squad player or plan B, but our midfielder situation is very bad so he has to play right now.
We can't expect Jose to sign 6 or 7 player in one window. So we have to play what we got.
We have to accept what he got and what he delivering. Comparing him to world class player will not make any good.
Next season we should accept new CM signing and Fellaini should play as squad player which he should be.

Yeah, it's just those praising Fellaini who go over the top...

Both Keane & Zidane got MOTM in those games and they are widely acknowledged as outstanding performances of individual brilliance. In comparison - Fellaini carried out his job without many mistakes. Perspective.

It's ikeano. No one should take him seriously. He would blame Fellaini for Brexit also

Nah, even Fellaini isn't that stupid! :D

I think everyone knows why he's playing right now and what he offers, Jose sold two of our other midfielders and doesn't seem to trust Mensah or Blind in there so he has to play in place of Pogba/Herrera/Carrick and thats fine.

But moving forward i'm not sure if a team with title winning aspirations can carry him even as a squad option.

I don't understand why he isn't banned in this thread

I would guess because he hasn't actually broken any rules. If they started banning people for having overly critical opinions on certain players, then it would only be fair that they also ban people who go overboard with praise.

Well it's derailing from discussion. Also I don't care if someone says he's crap but like 1 point rating for every match he's played? Come on..

Carrick and Pogba got dominated by the scousers at OT - you cannot say they would have dominated a Fellaini/pogba/herrera midfield though.

That's one game...

Just as one player doesn't make a team and you need a squad of players. Fellaini doesn't start every game for me, neither does Lingard but I value their importance in the course of a season.

Phil Neville against Arsenal instantly springs to mind. We had a plethora of midfield talent and SAF played an aging Giggs and P.Neville in the central midfield against a peak Viera and (Flamini?) we bossed them.

Did they? 56% possession and their GK was MOTM. Their only goal being a horror mistake from Pogba. In what sense did they get dominated?

Whats derailing the conversation, that someone has a one point match rating for Fellaini?

First off the guy didn't even bring his match rating up himself, someone else did maybe you want them banned also. Secondly its only a fecking match rating, they are meaningless. I'm sure there are other people with equally mental match ratings like having Fellaini or Lingard on 7+ and their highest rated player.

Bit shitty to be asking why someone isn't banned from a thread just because you don't agree with their opinion. I don't agree with him either, nor do i agree with many other people but i don't go around asking for them to be banned. Theres an ignore function if he bothers you that much why not use that instead?

I don't want to stretch this any further because it's not the place but you shouldn't be putting words in my mouth saying I want them banned. I only asked why not because if I'm not wrong similar posters were banned from the Ronaldo thread and in the past many posters (usually of opposition teams) have been banned for constantly shitting on our players. That's the reason I asked so you can put down your social justice warrior sword and relax.

I'm not his biggest fan, but can see why Jose plays him. He does what he's told to do clearly, and he gives 100%.

If some of our more talented players had Fellainis mentality we wouldn't be sitting in 5th.

But he doesn't. He came on against Everton at Goodison to shore up the defence and gave away a stupid penalty.

He came on against Anderlecht to shore up the defence and lost his man when defending a cross. If your giant CM whose come on with the explicit purpose of defending cant even help you defend crosses, what is the point of him?

he played well did his job he will be here untill he is no longer useful.

every title winning side that has ever won a title has a player just like him seems some of you are wasted on here and should be applying for manager jobs as you do think you know better than SAF and JM.

he can help us defend crosses though lol. maybe come back when he can't

You didnt watch the game - i was there as was many others.

Their GK getting MoM and 56% posession doesnt mean midfielders didnt get dominated. That cheese is from france - grapes taste nice....

Social justice warrior, fecking give over will you.

I'm not putting any words in your fecking mouth either see below, i said you were asking why someone isn't banned which is what you did. Try reading peoples posts before jumping to conclusions.

I doubt anybodies ever been banned for criticizing a player ffs, wise up. As i said put people on ignore if their posts offend your sensibilities that much.
