It seems that Madrid have been unable to coerce the player into kicking up a fuss to get the fee reduced, and are probably still trying to get this done. I expect that if it looks like we're close to signing him they'll be forced to pay up though. I expect him to join them, partly because they will be desperate to sign someone now and partly because it's part of an ongoing theme: we spend ages chasing a big name player, reports go crazy, things appear in the media which seem to be positive signs, more waiting, Madrid/Bayern etc finally swoop and sign the player in short order.
