I only just saw the Tabarez press conference but, as I was saying earlier, fecking predictable. Three English reporters start asking him about Suarez, biting and suspensions. Last time he met a press conference in the same conditions was in South Africa after Ghana and he was well and truly pissed off that instead of celebrating victory after 120 minutes of twists and turns and penos it all was about that single incident and some sort of moral issue around it.
So what, is he 9? Is this a playground grudge exercise? Again, the English press has become a ridiculous excuse for "I don't like this reporting that affects me, etc etc, ignore the English conspiracy!" It's nonsense. Our broadsheets are amongst the best in the world and spend the vast majority of their time pointing out our own inadequacies. I hate our gutter press as much as the next guy (I've even written a sitcom pilot about it!) but the legacy of our tabloids - who no one takes as reputable - is now being used to slander and obfuscate both genuine investigative journalists (FIFA/Blatter etc) and quite legitimate questions of on field actions (Suarez)...You said earlier [about our respective media] "They're both as bad as each other"..Well I call bullshit on that. We'd at least admit it happened. And if any didn't, the rest would pile on to correct them.
So to say "Well, what can we do?" is a bit of a nonsense to me....Erm, tell the truth? That's the purpose of news and reportage. And if National pride is a legitimate reason for not doing so, then feck me, the BNP would be proud of such rhetoric.
Yes, Chiellini is a twat and acting like a bad loser because that was not the defining moment of the game in any shape or form
Your star player not receiving a justified red whilst leading by one goal against 10 men isn't a game defining moment in ANY shape or form? It may not be the single
most important, no, but it could've made a shit load or difference in such a game.
I can completely understand how annoying this must be for you. A bunch of English people getting worked up at a side issue after you've qualified from the (well, at least one of 2) group of death, and in impressive comeback circumstances too, but I hope you can see why this whole thing just seems bonkers from our perspective. If Lugano and Suarez feel attacked, then from our POV we seemed to have become the a focal point of abuse for refusing to ignore thuggish behaviour from a repeat offender. The very fact this is getting twisted back on us is aggravating in itself.
