Like i said before, he is crap. And for who that said it is just a pre-season, get a grip, the opponent is also in pre-season mode.

Rather than tackled, he just needed to body charge or made Theo ran wider because if he crossed no Madrid player in the center.

And dont compare it with Vidic situation. We still have Ferdinand at that time to cover up.

Rather buy Pepe. Old, he is. But still a beast. Another crap in the making.

Not overly fussed about preseason performance. We've had average players look great during preseason and great players look average.

Hopefully he's an upgrade on the two sick notes.
Not at the minute he's not. Well he is, if he can play and those to can't but lets not get into technicalities.

I think it's just nerves now. It's confidence. Some forget that United is a mega club and the pressure to perform is enormous.

Anyway, I'll give him 18 months before I'll start writing him off.

I know we signed Bailly and he settled straight away but football progression isn't linear so let's wait and see.

Id rather have someone who is a natural CB rather than shoehorning other players in. Jose said he's a fan of specialists over utility players.

I really hope he improves but to me we've signed a dud here, put it this way if lindaloff was playing for city or Liverpool and playing like this then we'd all be laughing right now.

That says rojo was terrible when he first signed but he was arguably our best defender last season before his injury so he can improve...I think

It's worrying how uncomfortable Lindelof looks.

Aye but he's a good player. He has played in the CL. He has played at International level with very good reading of the game. With very good passing, vision and calmness.

I honestly think it's just down to nerves.

Think of starting a new job with far far more pressure. He'll settle down given a chance I think.

Given how Mourinho has treated the likes of Shaw and Martial, I doubt Lindelof will get 18 months. Mind you because he's his signing, Jose will probably be more patient with him, not least for his ego.

I can see him getting the Mhkitaryan treatment if he doesn't improve rapidly. If he takes this poor form into the season he'll be benched.

It's natural to have concerns, and there's definitely some to be had. Im not at all pleased with his preseason performances either but I just think what he does in the league will be the true barometer of his progress and even then he deserves some time. Surely we can't judge on the success of his signing already?

His tackle for example wasn't an example of his ability, it was just a reckless decision. Something he can iron out with Jose's coaching and experience.

Well I mean 18 months is the latest. He could come into his own in October. Who knows. Obviously if he hasn't kicked on in 18 months then I'll probably start questioning his signing. But certainly not in pre season, when he's only signed.

No there isnt. But people make mistakes, including footballers. It's just a waiting game, to see how he beds in. I'll judge him in 18 months.

But if I was Jose I'd not sell Smalling or Jones now as they're better options right now.
Im happy to concede that footballers make mistakes, but that sentiment is only extended to some players. And the likes of Jones and Smalling aren't afforded that luxury anymore.
Plus 18 months is far too long a time to bed in, in my opinion.

He made a mistake in pre season. Who cares?
It's not just one mistake but this mistake was attrocious for a pub team defender, let alone an international one. He has looked poor in every match so far. Rightfully people will question if he's any better than who we already have. I think Tuanzebe has earned the right to be higher in the pecking order. He really deserved a proper shot this season, instead of signing Lindelof imo.

How can 'he played in the CL' be an excuse?
Do you know how many other shit players have played in the CL?

Was thinking the same. He's the leading contender for this seasons Mkhitaryan/Salah/Cuadrado this season.

Well there is no right or wrong answer between us fans. Only the manager knows how much time he has to show that he deserves to be here.

How long do you think Lindelof should be given?

Again, nothing to do with talent, all to do with attitude. Why is this so hard for folks here to get?

In Smalling's pocket (as every other person)
That's talking about skill set and not position. I'm aware Lindelof can also operate as a fullback, but I'm sure he was bought with the intention to play CB almost predominantly. He is meant to be good distributor of the ball which we arguably lack at the back apart from possibly Blind.
Alright, but Fosu Mensah, Tuanzebe, Rojo, Smalling, Jones are well comfortable at CB. Blind has probably played more matches of high level as CB than Lindelof has.

He wasnt signed to sit on the bench, so I was expecting him to be a starter by November.
He hasn't done anything to convince me that he's better than Smalling or Jones so far, but maybe he'll turn it around

At 7.30 this morning whilst half asleep I wasn't wrong.

Utterly pointless signing and waste of money. Prepared to give him time but he looks very average to me

Doesn't sound like you are to me!

Can't believe some of the posts on here. People are writing him off based on a few pre-season games. Half of them never even saw him play before. Call me stupid but I'd place more trust in JM and our scouts than a few "experts" on here.

Jones for the past two pre seasons has been garbage defensively yet still held his own when fit when the season actually started. Pre season for defenders mean nothing to be honest,

It seems good on paper but last season towards the end we were desperate for any CB to fill in with Rojo, Bailly, Smalling and Jones all out at one point. Smalling and Jones are heavily unreliable.

Tuanzebe is young and could be prone to mistakes too. Blind is a good option but he's not the best.

I even remember TFM making a rash challenge in one his earlier games against Everton and giving away a penalty in a FA cup semi final. Mistakes happen...

He wasn't? I don't know about that. He's younger and more inexperienced than both Smalling and Jones.

And who knows, maybe he will be a starter in November.

Lol that penalty

Of course it means nothing, but if you look like a pub CB, it can only get better i guess. We were promised the Swedish Bonucci and got the Swedish Mangala (who also came from the Portuguese league as a talented CB and ended up being useless)
