We can criticize him all day long but if we're to get back in this game playing the kind of football we're playing, it may very well be because of a Rooney assist out of nowhere. We're playing such dire brand of football, I actually feel more confident with Rooney in the side. He is going to play as poor as everybody else on the pitch but at least manages to come up with something sometimes. The rest of the players, I have no confidence in them when we're trailing or playing poorly.

Seriously? He did manage a lot of passes in attacking sense. 2 good passes to Rashford which lead to good attacks. Just because it's a trend to bash him doesn't mean we have to just focus on his negatives, which is not a lot in this game.
Rooney is one big negative, a negative that has plagued our team for years. I'm sick of the sight of him and past the point of being rational.

Mourinho has admitted Rooney isn't a midfielder, yet now he's back to playing in midfield. What more proof do we need to see that Rooney isn't playing for his ability as a footballer?

Exactly. Its more of a trend to bash him even when there have been far worse performers today
He's our captain, highest paid player and supposedly our leader. When things aren't going well these are the kind of players you expect to show up but alas we get more of the same old shit.

It's becoming a bit of a joke. Pre-game Scholes tells us Rooney will do well in midfield, as does Hoddle. In game, he starts to look bad, Savage tells us it's because he's a #10. There is always some excuse for him being awful. It's starting to look very, very desperate.

Everyone who keeps pointing to other players being poor too, do you realise which thread you're in?

Blind, Carrick, schneiderlin and Herrera. CMs who aren't playing while Rooney spends most of the half playing there. Don't even care if it's supposed to be a 4-2-3-1or a 4-3-3, he's playing like a CM.

Rooney's awful displays are about as predictable as Rojo's performances these days.

Do you honestly think Herrera would have made us dominating with us up 3-0 or something?
Why do you need to go to such an extreme to defend Rooney? He was simply asking if you think Herrera is a better midfielder than Rooney, not if you believe Herrera would single-handedly dominate Watford.

Not good enough first half. Being moved forward to the position he should be in the second, needs to be better.

So having a CM playing in CM won't make a difference? Nice one.

Herrera is hardly a game changer. Which is kind of the point.

It's a stupid point then because the job of a CM isn't to be a game changer. Arguing it's fine that Rooney is playing at CM instead of actual CMs is fine because we wouldn't be winning 3-0 anyways makes no sense.

The point is not that we need a game-changer, it's that we need a balanced and cohesive XI which this clearly isn't. I made the same point after the terrible midweek game: we need to have a plan, and give the team some time to gel within that plan. This lineup with these tactics has no plan to get the ball forward. And Rooney is one of the most intractable problems with this lineup (unless he is shifted wide).

3rd worst player at our club after Rojo and Depay. Yes I even rate Darmian higher.

He's a disgrace. Would look out of place in the Chinese league.
