I guess they go hand in hand. I sometimes wish I were as utterly dumb (and unaware of my own stupidity) as these twats. Life is so much easier when you just don't care. And yet so brazen and arrogant.
It'll be them remaining 'apolitical' as possible. I'm convinced they'll give Starmer a fine or at least someone else at Beergate out of false balance. The Met didn't bungle the 'inquiry', they were just following orders.
Civil servants and No 10 advisers furious over single fine for Boris Johnson
PM received only one of 126 fixed-penalty notices relating to law-breaking parties, prompting claims Met police bungled inquiry
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...rs-furious-over-single-fine-for-boris-johnson
The hypocrisy would be hilarious if it wasn't so corrosive. The Daily mail had about 9 front pages on Starmer attending 1 event, and demanded a full police investigation (re opened).
There were over 20 events and 126 fines for 83 people for Boris and his pals.
Daily mail -
A farcical waste of time: After four months, £460,000 and only one fine for Boris Johnson, the Partygate inquiry has revealed the Met's warped priorities

You are right there, the 'quip' about reading the Daily Mail was just that, did you not see the smile's?It really doesn't makes sense to bemoan that unions are not effective enough, so as a response, jump over to support the right wing rags or politicians who will implement the exact opposite of what you claim you wanted from trade unions in the first place.
It's nonsensical.

Nah, I'm very, very pessimistic about people taking action anytime soon, and not only in the UK. The system's manipulation and ability to seduce/sedate citizens are far more sophisticated and inescapable now than just a couple of decades ago.Every day you wake up and there's at least 1 story about a Government official that makes your piss boil.
I'm honestly staggered at this point the country isn't rioting. It's just a shambles, run by idiots and crooks.
Maybe, but I really do get the impression that people complain about it more online in a safe space, but physically do less. I see a lot of people saying the government are a joke and shouldn't get away with all this but no organised marches or anything. I can remember going on a ton of marches a decade or two back over things that were probably less important.Nah, I'm very, very pessimistic about people taking action anytime soon, and not only in the UK. That's exactly part of my point, the system has found/created and is exploiting a way to channel the people's frustration that is completely harmless to the system itself.Maybe, but I really do get the impression that people complain about it more online in a safe space, but physically do less. That's fair, but people could still go out and do something about it. I get what you're saying though, the likes of Twitter is exactly where the government want us to be and it's working. That's exactly part of my point, the system has found/created and is exploiting a way to channel the people's frustration that is completely harmless to the system itself.
Rather odd take. Child obesity is a rather dangerous epidemic that’ll impact generations.Jamie Oliver and his middle class protest can feck off.
Then campaign to make healthy food cheaper. Not junk food more expensive, at a time people are struggling massively with the cost of food.Rather odd take. Child obesity is a rather dangerous epidemic that’ll impact generations.
Obesity will be a thing of the past if this shower carry on in charge, other countries will be having concerts for us.Rather odd take. Child obesity is a rather dangerous epidemic that’ll impact generations.
The sooner Jamie Oliver fecks off, the better.Tweet

Another promise broken by Boris, so Oliver and others appeared with Eton Messes en-mass to protest.
They always do performative shit like this. But won’t actually lobby supermarkets and the government for schemes and cheaper healthier foods, or address socio economic factors such as chicken and chip and kebab shops on every corner in working class areas being the only affordable option after school for a lot of school kidsThe sooner Jamie Oliver fecks off, the better.
He’s a classist snob who once wrote that he can’t understand poverty when people have ‘a massive fecking tv’. Completely out of touch, and I doubt any of those protestors have ever had to shop in Iceland or Lidl.
His war on food has resulted in school dinners being more expensive, sugar tax making everything more expensive (and terrible tasting) and obesity hasn’t slowed down either.
If he really cared about healthy eating & children being able to eat good food, he should’ve been campaigning with Rashford when children were potentially going hungry.
Instead all he cares about is turning his nose up at the availability of certain types of food and wielding his power & influence under the guise of ‘healthy food choices’
He’s a dick.
Such protests are very surface level. Also, as villain pointed out he’s made classist comments before so it’s safe to assume that him and his minions aren’t coming from a good placeWow! Looks like I completely misread the room here. I would have imagined that wanting children eating healthier would have been a slam dunk positive issue...
Thats not what he’s doing though is it, he’s campaigning to stop BOGOF deals on junk food, in favour of them being on healthy food instead.Wow! Looks like I completely misread the room here. I would have imagined that wanting children eating healthier would have been a slam dunk positive issue...
Yes, but if you remove the 'front and center' nature of the unhealthy foods and put the BOGOF deals etc on healthier options then it would be better for all of us.Thats not what he’s doing though is it, he’s campaigning to stop BOGOF deals on junk food, in favour of them being on healthy food instead.
That doesn’t mean that children will eat healthier by default.
- ‘healthy’ food often takes more time & more ingredients to make into a meal. If you’re poor then time is a luxury that most can’t afford after a long day at work, or you work shifts and have to leave food for your kids to eat since you won’t be at home when they get back from school.
- also who the feck is he to limit the choices that we can eat?
I mean really, buying Eton Mess just to waste it in a cost of living crisis when people are choosing between heating and eating, the guy is completely out of touch. And his own food sucks.
Exactly, poor & working class areas are littered with chip shops on every corner, and a Tesco/Aldi/Lidl that is mostly accessible by car. They always do performative shit like this. But won’t actually lobby supermarkets and the government for schemes and cheaper healthier foods, or address socio economic factors such as chicken and chip and kebab shops on every corner in working class areas being the only affordable option after school for a lot of school kids
Then he should be campaigning to make the cost of healthy food cheaper, and leave the unhealthy food out of it. Bringing unhealthy food into it means that he wants to limit choice and it’s not for him to decide what people eat.Yes, but if you remove the 'front and center' nature of the unhealthy foods and put the BOGOF deals etc on healthier options then it would be better for all of us.
Re: who is he to limit choices, didn't people say the same when the government first introduced the 18yr age limit for alcohol? Obesity will cripple the country if it continues as it is. Long-term health care costs are and will continue to skyrocket. If the government isn't willing to put things in place to promote healthy food options, then it surely then moves to private individuals / interest groups.
I remember him moaning ages ago about the working class not embracing chickpeas as a cheap, healthy food source. What is commonplace in kitchens in Notting Hill isn't in Grimsby or Darlington. The sooner Jamie Oliver fecks off, the better.

They don't sell chickpeas in Grimbsy?I remember him moaning ages ago about the working class not embracing chickpeas as a cheap, healthy food source. What is commonplace in kitchens in Notting Hill isn't in Grimsby or Darlington.
Then that means he underestimated the demand for the sugary fizzy drinks. Then he should be campaigning to make the cost of healthy food cheaper, and leave the unhealthy food out of it. He’s already tried that with making fizzy drinks more expensive unless they use a sugar substitute and what happened? We all pay more for shitty fizzy drinks and the demand remains unchanged, consumers have lost out.
This is the same issue, all that’s gonna happen is the cost of food will increase or the government will add a tax on unhealthy food and again the consumer will lose out.
There’s many things that will cripple this country, poverty & hunger being a bigger priority in the current climate - if people can afford food, even if it’s unhealthy food, then why make that harder for them?
Sounds like him, completely out of touch.I remember him moaning ages ago about the working class not embracing chickpeas as a cheap, healthy food source. What is commonplace in kitchens in Notting Hill isn't in Grimsby or Darlington.
When I grew up in Hull in the '80s no-one knew what a fecking chickpea was, let alone how to cook them. They don't sell chickpeas in Grimbsy?
It hit a nerve because he’s a cnut. Why wage a war on food (any type of food) during a cost of living crisis, stupidly high inflation, and stagnant wages? Then that means he underestimated the demand for the sugary fizzy drinks.
Can I also ask what your ideological issue with this is, as this has appears to have hit a nerve. We limit the availability of unhealthy products all of the time, and you admit yourself that the healthy options should be the cheapest. In the short-term would removing BOGOF etc on horrifically unhealthy food not work? The other option is that you drag the price of organics down which further cripples sectors that are already on their knees after Brexit.
Doesn't that make him correct though? They're cheap, readily available and easy to cook. When I grew up in Hull in the '80s no-one knew what a fecking chickpea was, let alone how to cook them.
No, it's as villain said, he's out of touch. A single mother working three jobs isn't going to start cooking chickpea curries or hummous from scratch between shifts. They don't have time to experiment.Doesn't that make him correct though? They're cheap, readily available and easy to cook.
The issue with such food items is they're never promoted in supermarkets. If you're not one for annoying TV chefs then you probably won't even think of them.
Please don’t slag off Comrade NigellaDon't baffle them and turn them off with bourgeois dishes out of Nigella.

Exactly! You walk in to any supermarket and what is usually there front and centre…beer and chocolate. Seasonal isles always stocked with horrific foods for people and then the little shelves at checkouts with another chocolate bar or similar for the little one to beg for.Doesn't that make him correct though? She's fighting the good fight from her palatial kitchen in Holland Park. Plus she's even more dedicated than you cos she read him in Italian.
That's a very simplistic argument. The supermarkets certainly don't help, but there's a whole host of barriers to people cooking healthily from scratch, ranging from cultural issues to time, money, how they've been brought up, education and so on.Exactly! It’s nothing to do with snobbery or class wars as The Daily Mail would have some believe, it’s supermarkets etc marketing unhealthy food with bright, attractive packaging over the better food which, in actuality, is often similarly priced.
