Specialist In Failure
No, he isn't. He can't go past a player any more - pace is gone.Rooney is the most complete striker in the game.

Lets not get carried away. He's not even the most complete midfielder I've seen at the age of 19 in the current Arsenal side, and he's far from complete. There's loads of stuff he either hasn't shown he can do yet or doesn't have in his locker.Wilshere is the most complete midfielder I've ever seen under the age of 20.
He is spectacular. I am so jealous that Arsenal have him.
I also think Wenger deserves so much credit for Wilshere's development.
He beat three of your lot yesterday just by picking up the ball and running faster round the outside of them. No, he isn't. He can't go past a player any more - pace is gone.
Very big shout considering he's achieved absolutely nothing yet. He's in with a good shout of being better than all of them.
I would agree with you but at this stage in his career, would he have gotten in the Arsenal team of 1998/99?I don't see any point in slagging Jack the Lad, he's made exceptional progress in the last year and is on course to be a major player.
Yeah but those players back then were Champions mentally, that Arsenal side were far more tougher to beat than the Chelsea, Blackburn, Newcastle or Liverpool sides any United teams have faced since 1992.Possibly not but we had a different set up then with Parlour tucked in as a 3rd CM in a nominal 4411. I think we'd have found room for Jack.
You won't win the league, because your team is a bunch of babies, as Evra once put it.Yeah because our average age is still about 23. The team has matured a lot in the last year and we're nearly there - I still think we'll win the league and then everybody else has a big problem.
Nah it's not that at all, it's because Wenger believes in his own hype which is he constantly finds these amazing kids who come through the ranks and make Arsenal whereas the best Arsenal players (Henry, Overmars, Vieira, Petit, Anelka, Pires) were all actually signed for transfer fees, some of them quite pricey too and they were supplemented by a very good supporting cast.Yeah because our average age is still about 23. Ga ga goo goo goo goo - come back in May.You won't win the league, because your team is a bunch of babies, as Evra once put it.
You can't win the League with babies.
And? Nothing new - only Jack and Gibbsy have come through the yoof (more to come though wait til Chuks hits the straps).Nah it's not that at all, it's because Wenger believes in his own hype which is he constantly finds these amazing kids who come through the ranks and make Arsenal whereas the best Arsenal players (Henry, Overmars, Vieira, Petit, Anelka, Pires) were all actually signed for transfer fees, some of them quite pricey too and they were supplemented by a very good supporting cast.eady.
Reminds me of Ferguson talking last week of how Nani had capitalised on Valencia's absence and made more than expected progress because of it. If Fabregas and Ramsey had been available for all Arsenal's games this season Wilshere might still be on the fringes or even on loan. Whether it's 98 or 2011 is kind of irrelevant when a player is taking chances and proving themselves to be good enough.I would agree with you but at this stage in his career, would he have gotten in the Arsenal team of 1998/99?
He was special, but not that special. Even at 17, it was clear that Messi had a technique of a level that had not been seen in a very long time.Rooney was mental at 19. Similar level of young talent to Messi.
You might win it this year but like all your premier league titles it'll only be because United are in transition. Couple of signings in the summer and we'll win another 3 in a row.Yeah because our average age is still about 23. The team has matured a lot in the last year and we're nearly there - I still think we'll win the league and then everybody else has a big problem.
Strangely one of the posts of peterstory that I agree with.Rooney looks a man 5 years out of sync, he played like a 21-year-old when he arrived at 16 and now plays like a 30-year-old.
What is wrong with you?Rooney was a blunt instrument at age 19.
He could do well to recover a bit of that
Vieira? No fecking way. He's in with a good shout of being better than all of them.
Rooney certainly was better than Wilshere at 19.What is wrong with you?
Rooney at 19 pisses all over Wilshere at 19.
He was absolutely sensational. He had already almost single-handedly made England look quite good at Euros a year back being absolutely superb.
He was far better than Wilshere.
Don't see it. His vision and understanding of the game was amazing for one so young. His physical and athletic attributes were fantastic. His passing was superb. And back then he had a brilliant shot from long range and could go past defenders.Rooney certainly was better than Wilshere at 19.
Still more of a onetrack player, mind.
Adding to that short passing too, you can't compare Wilshere/Rooney, they play in totally different positions.Don't see it. His vision and understanding of the game was amazing for one so young. His physical and athletic attributes were fantastic. His passing was superb. And back then he had a brilliant shot from long range and could go past defenders.
The one thing Wilshire is better at, at the same age is his ball control. That he's fantastic at.
Wilshere is already starting for Arsenal and doing very well, and you accept that Rooney was better as a 19 year old.Rooney certainly was better than Wilshere at 19.

Sounds to me like Rooney was better back then than he is now.Don't see it. His vision and understanding of the game was amazing for one so young. His physical and athletic attributes were fantastic. Comparable, maybe but it's the english hype machine. Rooney was already touted as a potential all time great at 16/17. Whilst his talent is unquestionable he lacks consistency, he cant put it all together even now.Wilshere is already starting for Arsenal and doing very well, and you accept that Rooney was better as a 19 year old.
Surely you must agree then that, talent-wise, Messi and Rooney were comparable at 19? Not to say he was better, obviously.
Aye he's so different to your typical english midfielder. He really wouldnt look out of place in Spain. Great little player, different to the standard Gerrard/Lampard type player (both great players, my meaning is they are what most english lads aspire to be like where as Wilshere looks a different type of player). IT pains me to say it but the lad is top quality. His ability to keep the ball while under pressure is amazing. Not many midfielders have that never mind typical clumsy english midfielders.
Rooney was probably closer talentwise to Messi than he is to Wilshere.Wilshere is already starting for Arsenal and doing very well, and you accept that Rooney was better as a 19 year old.

What I mean by onetrack player is that Rooney was gifted but not exactly cultured. It was generally a case of 'get ball, run towards goal because I'm ace' and try to make something happen. One track really. He lacked the decisonmaking of knowing when to just pass it or going for more subtle options then his 'force of nature style' at the time. Wilshere has that.Don't see it. His vision and understanding of the game was amazing for one so young. His physical and athletic attributes were fantastic. His passing was superb. And back then he had a brilliant shot from long range and could go past defenders.

Completely disagree. Rooney has probably the best young football mind I've seen along with Fabregas. What I mean by onetrack player is that Rooney was gifted but not exactly cultured. Rooney has that now (or had it anyway. not entirely sure what qualities Rooney has these days), though he seems to have forgotten he was in fact once a force of nature kind of player. He'd do well to remember that he can be that.
