I can't believe the negativity toward Mourinho. Yes you may have thought he was a cnut in the past, but so did many about Roy Keane. He'll be our cnut! Our trophy winning cnut.

I'm just a realist looking at the long term future of our club.
Who else is there though that has the ego and presence to be United manager

He will have all the tools he needs at this club to succeed and take us back to where we belong. Admittedly His attitude can be questionable but SAF had one of the worse tempers in football at times but did us fans care? Not at all.

All I'm bothered about is the man's a proven winner and he will whip this club in shape.

I'm sorry, but only in England will a CEO be dumb enough to hire this guy. And people wonder why Englanf fail to produce top talents..
Club owners don't care about English talent, they care about results, and everywhere Jose has been he's won trophies.

I think he would do well here. Nothing much to add. His personality can be toxic but we need some of that. When teams are showing you no respect then you have lost your fear factor. I think we'd be making a decent rebuttal. If we had have hired Jose a month ago, maybe Peps arrival at City would have damped the news somewhat but it's always better to respond and Jose is pretty good.

Statistically, no. But then he had more good young players.
Statistically yes. Moyes developed Rooney and Ross Barkley. Maureen record is very very poor on that regard

I hope Im not sounding anti Maureen. Im thrilled by this news

You do know that Pep has beaten Mourinho in almost every meeting?
Pep had the superior team though.

In matches that matter, they have around the same record. Both won an UCL tie, and both won a title while they were in the same league. Pep won the supercup against Mourinho, while Mourinho won the Copa del Rey against Pep.

Who racial abused him. I think he was right to give the racist prat a kicking. Gouging the eye of an opposing team coach is completely different.
Fergie kicked a boot at Beckhams head, Giggs fecked his brothers wife, Keane is and always was a cnut, but we loved them because they were all ours. We have always had legends who were arrogant/cocky/cnuts/etc. where as good as they were, were also well known for the type of characters they were. We already went for the supposed "nice, respectful guy" route with Moyes and we all know how badly that failed.

I'm not saying what Mou did is okay, but shit happens, you move on just like the above did.

Yet Mou remains the only coach to take Pep on for a league title and win.

Whatever Pep is or isn't capable of, by turning to Mou we'll be going with the only guy who has proved he can outdo him over a 38 game season. I can happily live with that.

We might not do so well in the one off games but in the Premier League's marathon sprint, with Mou, I fancy our chances.

It wasn't plaguing the forum. People were (rightfully) concerned that the board were going to appoint Giggs, despite his lack of experience. There were a few hysterical posts here and there (as in most situations), but most were able to discuss the matter fairly sensibly.
Bollocks, it was the over the top hissy fits and negative superlatives that's becoming the norm here, sprinkle in a few insults of 'idiot' and 'cnut' and my personal favourite 'clueless' and you've got the receipe of about 60% of threads these last few months.

Still on subject I think Mourinho will thrive here, I do beleive he'll try to play progressive football too.

Mourinho developed Varane, Zouma, Johnson, Morata while also signed some relatively young players at Chelsea (Ivanovic, Cech, Kalou).

So what kind of United will we see under Mourinho? Not so much player wise but formations and style?

I wouldn't be against offering LVG a job upstairs after this. Having Sir Alex and LVG upstairs as two men Jose can talk to and cocoon himself with a sense of calm and stability would really help his reign as United manager.

I think Van Gaal would make a fantastic director of football. Would be on board with this.
He's a terrible choice.

As Koeman explains in his self-titled biography, at every training session Van Gaal would take a chair from his office and take a seat right next to the training pitch. There, he’d sit and judge the players Koeman was coaching. On a few occasions, the director of football would start applauding the players he liked most.

But that wasn’t all. Things went from bad to worse when Van Gaal started arranging meetings with Koeman to discuss tactics. Again, Koeman felt like Van Gaal was undermining his authority. Why was Van Gaal trying to tell him what to do?

Then there was the small matter of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The star striker, who had been brought in by Van Gaal’s predecessor, had made a name for himself by tearing up the Dutch Eredivisie for Ajax. He also made an impression during Ajax’s Champions League campaigns, so in the summer of 2004, it was obvious big clubs were going to make bids for him. Koeman, however, was determined to hold on to the Swedish star.

Much to the manager’s horror, Van Gaal seemed to think otherwise, and on transfer deadline day the director of football accepted a bid from Juventus. Zlatan was off, and because the transfer window was about to shut, Koeman had no time to buy a replacement."

You can be sure that a man with the size of Van Gaal's ego would never be able to live with the fact that he failed at United and would interfere. Not to mention that he has a good relationship with few of the players and that would create divisions between "LVG's boys" and "Mourinho's boys".

There is no room for this sort of shite.

If he's appointed,I hope he will do well for the sake of the club but I don't think he will leave us in a good state.People who think he will adjust to the culture of the club is way too optimistic.Nevertheless, at least he will make the squad to play some proper football.

Where's my arc, Paulie?

Where they the club's youths though? Chelsea has a magnificent youth academy and Mou barely gave those players a chance.

I'm worried about what Stoke and Bournemouth are doing.

Seeing some of you lot lose it over the appointment of a bloke they've hated for years is pretty amusing. It will be even funnier when those same people sing his name.
I've been a massive fan of Mourinho as has a lot of United fans I know so no sweeping statements please. Ye shud just worry about trying to stay in the league and worry less about United.

It is widely assumed the most obvious alternative to Mourinho is Ryan Giggs, Van Gaal's assistant.

However, while Giggs was happy to further his education under Van Gaal, he is unlikely to be as willing to work with Mourinho.
Im no native English speaker but am I the only one to find these two sentences contradicting?

I wonder what'll become of Mata. Didn't the two of them have a fairly public falling out at Chelsea a couple of years ago? That's what led to him joining United isn't it? Mourinho not playing him because he didn't do the defensive work.

Can't wait for signings like Kalou, Johnson, Ivanovic, Falcao and Pedro. What a record this man has.

He's only fallen out with players like Mata, Ronaldo, Casillas and Fabregas as well.

Can't say I'm too happy with this! Preferred Poch over him. Pep was the obvious choice but the less said about that the better.
