Probably he's just taking some time off, I don't see how he can ruin his reputation taking the team now.

Pretty much anything would be an improvement over the shit we're being served every week and nobody really expects anything. Not to mention that if he somehow manages to get top 4 or win anything he'll look like a genius.
If he took the team now and we failed to qualify for the CL that would go down on his record, No way wouldn't want that. Maybe he will wait until it's mathetically gone then pull the plug.

If I was a Liverpool fan my posts would probably look something like this. There is no way I would want Jose to manage MUFC as he would have the club back to winning throphies in no time.
Will he feck.

As I said before, Giggs is my first choice for Man Utd's next manager. After that I'd prefer Mourinho to many others.

I'm not sure how anyone can claim certainty either way, to be honest. He's a manager who exists to win trophies and is better than most at doing so, but we're also in a pretty sorry state of affairs.

Short term success long term problems.
I don't know, I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said.
I just think a mourinho/Mendes combination is not going to be good for the longer term future for us.
Having screwed up two previous appointments, unless we get success shortly there won't be a serious future for us as a major club. The opportunity to experiment with a manager has gone - it has to be right this time.

Di Marzio was reliable wrt Darmian because he had contacts with Torino and Darmian's friends/family. That doesn't mean he's reliable on matters to do with Mourinho and English football. There's no such thing as a journalist who's reliable with everything he reports. It'd depend entirely on the subject matter and his corresponding sources.

I'm sorry but this post is extremely flawed. We are always going to have a future as a major club. We are at the very least the biggest club in England and even ten years without a trophy won't change that.
In the 70's we were relegated and still pulled in the biggest crowds.
Yes we aren't doing well at the moment but it happens. Look at Madrid and Barcelona. They both went through barren periods and they were still major players.

I think we've got used to success just falling in our lap and now it feels like the sky is falling.

That rules out Giggs then.

He'll be here. I have no worries about that.

Maybe Ed and LVG do have a good relationship, and Ed is letting him finish out the year?

More importantly though IMO, is Jose's love for LVG and I don't think he wants to be recognized as going behind his mentors back and getting him fired, however true/false it may be. Getting your mentor axed (perception wise) and then taking his job is about as bad a look one can have.

Just watched Chelsea v Newcastle, wow Chelsea looking far better than they did under José. Worrying sign that he couldn't get a performance out of them at all, many players he himself brought to the club too.

He's an enormous c*nt but he was always able to get players to play for him out of loyalty, if that's now gone as the evidence this season suggests, then he has nothing left to offer us.
It seems half the forum have turned a blind eye to this too

Jose as it stands had a far worse season than LVG
I don't think it's that he has lost it, More of he made a mistake in not taking player personalities into perspective when he signed the likes of Costa and Fabregas, Players that have a tendency to complain and cause a fuss when things are not going the way they like. When things were going nicely in the first season, these type of players flourished, but as soon as the going got tough they sulked and conspired behind his back.
I'm all for giving him a chance here, but Mourinho was the circus at Chelsea this season. Nobody can say that they think he's left that behind when he's been at his most erratic this season.
Him 'loosing it' isnt permanant, just one of them times in life when things go tits up...it happens...So let me tell you a story.

Was chatting with a freind of mine over the Christmas period. My freind is on the board of directors for a big Eastern European ice cream manufacturer. The owner of this company also owns a small recruitment agency for skilled professionals in London.

So he tells me about the boss in London is a bloke called Joseph. Now Joseph was very good at his job, but he hired a young lady called Aoife to look after the well being of his recruits. She was quite good at her job, and Joseph knew this and took a shine to her and she took a shine to him.

One day Joseph recruited a young boy called Adam Dangerous, he was a very good worker and excelled in most opportunities that he was presented with, because he was a young boy and not quite strong enough to handle the gruelling English workers life he spent quite an amount of time with Aoife whilst she looked after him..She took a real shine to young Adam, but Adam wasnt too serious about her, although he did enjoy her company from time to time. One day Joseph found out about how well Aoife was taking care of young Adams wellbeing and thought she was going beyond the call of duty, so they had a big falling out and he started to resent Adam.

Soon some of the other recruits who worked under Joseph noticed how he would treat young Adam and they too started to feel that Joseph was being unfair until it got so bad that they didnt want to work for him anymore. This carried on for a while until the owner stepped in and restructured.

But anyways, back to football.

Mourinho will be great at utd should he get the job!

 nice story. Eastern European ice cream manufacturer:lol:

Jose has had a terrible year. Much rather let him stay afresh next season with a nice rest behind them, then have him try an immediate repair job this season.

His dad is ill as well, right? Let Jose spend some time out. For all we know, that's what he wishes to do anyway.

liverpool are actually quite popular, not as popular as us but there is still a significant fanbase. seen them more than city fans around these parts but opinions on this will probably differ.

that does not mean we should accept mediocrity just because we are popular, though.

And I didn't say it shouldn't be addressed. But falling by the wayside isn't going to happen.

Sry but to just look at win rate is a bit silly (it's also 33 percent at Espanyol and 38 at Southampton?). And how can anyone expect silverware at Espanyol or Southampton? Tottenham is the first side where he could come close to winning anything and it's a real possibilty this year. Moyes has a better win rate, but that doesn't make his job at United anything better, because of course you expect a team like us to win more games than Espanyol or Southampton. He took Espanyol over, when they were pretty much relegated, and with him they got a comfortable 10th place in the end and a solid second season after that too. He was sacked in his third season when things weren't that great anymore, but it's already good to survive there as long. He took over Southampton during the season, when they were a pointless midtable team and one season later he finished 8th with them and then already left. All teams played good football too and he is doing fine at Spurs now. Yeah the PL or at least the big teams are shit, but he is still doing a great job at Tottenham, it's not like we, Pool or Chelsea are anywhere close to them this year.
To just look at the win rate and to ignore which teams he took over (he improved all of them) is a bit unfair. Just a example, when you are the new manager of a team, which lost 20 out of 20 games and you leading them then to 5 wins, 4 draws and 11 defeats in the next 20, then you have improved the team already and it would be unfair to say you have done a shit job just because it still doesn't look that great when you only look at your stats.

I also don't think a comparison with Moyes is fair, Moyes always lacked the mentality, his big games record was absymal and he was only proven at one team, which he could barely improve after 2,3 seasons and then he stayed there in his ambition-less comfort zone for a decade. Pochettino is already more promising and if he wins silverware this year, then it's no contest anymore imo. That doesn't mean that it wouldn't be a risk or a gamble to an extend, of course he is not as proven as Jose or Carlo, but he is at least a guy who has the potential and could step up imo. Moyes was never in that category
I'm not only looking at the points and I'm not suggesting he's a bad manager. I'm just looking for evidence that he's a bona fide Manchester United manager because we can't afford another gamble.

Yes you don't expect Southampton or Espanyol to win silverware, but no one expected the trophies SAF won at Aberdeen or José at Porto either. I don't think it's too much to expect someone in the running for the United role to have picked up at least a League Cup or something.

Your comments on Moyes are a little bit Monday morning quarter back for me. A lot of the arguments you make for Pochettino, people were making for him back then. Including, it would appear, SAF.

If Moyes hadn't happened, I'd be all for taking a risk - I loves a gamble. But he did and we can't.

José should come in and if he can't for whatever reason, I'd look to Simeone, Allegri or Conte before taking a risk like Poch.

Falling sideways and falling by the wayside are two different things.

I didn't disagree that we aren't doing well on the pitch.
Your username says 1981 so you must have gone through the barren years. Were we irrelevant?

At Chelsea he left after a shocking start to the season both times, the latest more so.

At Real Madrid he did an average job and ended up being forced out due to falling out with the entire dressing room in the end.

No debate over Inter and Porto, but it's undeniable that he has a track record of falling out with his players and that's not a good thing at all.
So if he was the problem and not the players, club etc then why he was wanted back by both clubs?

Also kindly note that starting badly isn't the indication of a meltdown. Juventus got just 5 points in 6 matches at the beginning of the season. Now they are on top of the Serie A table

There's never any guarantees any manager taking over will bring success. The fact is what we have is not working and we need a change. Unless United unearth a hidden gem there aren't many alternatives left who could manage United.

Chelsea prob hired him again after missing out on Pep in the hope that he'd learned something, instead they had to pay him off, £10m just to prevent him dragging them towards relegation.

Not sure of the identity of the other club you're speaking about but if it's Real Madrid then you're prob using paper talk as fact.

If we ensured we had signed Mourinho before Ferguson retired we wouldn't be in this mess and we would never had to become a set of fans that expect failure.

He did learnt something didn't he? He learnt how to win trebles with a club with half of Chelsea's budget. Regarding paper talks Im referring to reliable news such as sky.

Why not simply say that Real and Chelsea are two poorly managed clubs filled with mercenaries and trigger happy owners who constantly mess with the manager's work? The United fans have no idea what it means being a poorly managed club. I do because I also happen to follow (not support) the Milanese clubs. Some of the things they did and do would force most our fans to tear their season tickets in half

Di Marzio is reliable as it gets.
I don't agree with this. Especially when the news in question has no Italian links. I also saw he replied to a United fan saying he doesn't know for certain, he's just reporting what he's heard.

To each his own though.

Liverpool aren't a top club. A top club competes for the top trophies.
Would you really be happy with us becoming Liverpool?
What we're doing now will continue if we bring in more sub-par management and lose yet more appeal to the best players. Then we're Liverpool.

There's clearly pro's and con's to hiring Jose. But do you honestly think the con's out-weigh the pro's?

He's fallen out at the clubs with notoriously volatile working environments (not the first and he won't be the last) but he didn't fall out with anyone at Porto & Inter and I'd argue the conditions at Utd are closer to the latter than to Chelsea and Madrid. There's no doubting he has the ability to kick off with almost anyone, but then so did Fergie. And as great as he was, I don't think Ferguson would have survived long at Madrid either. It's more to do with the club than the manager.

Yes he left Chelsea twice, after winning the league and cup on both occasions. If he leaves us in 3 years time after winning the league and cup ...I'd take that any day of the week.

You're giving players far too much credit there, they're not all concerned with winning trophies and playing under a great manager.

We'll always be able to attract players because we have loads of money. No matter who is managing us, no matter what our style of play is, no matter how long since we challenged for a trophy, players will always come here as we can offer huge contracts.

Which kind of player would you prefer though?

And we're already losing out on players (and a manager) to other, more desirable clubs.
We already don't win transfers because of not offering enough money.

Also, how long can we and do you expect to be able to spend 200m+ a season without winning trophies which keeps the fanbase so large internationally/brings the sponsors in etc?

Be interesting to see what happens when the new man comes in. The clowns at BBC on the vid below reckon United need another £150m on players and only Rooney and Martial are worth keeping, ROFL. They always reckon we need loads of money spending. Well it was Chris Sutton.

To be fair we do need significant strengthening as our starting 11 is a shambles.

Yea okay,
Maybe we could try getting in a competent coach first before we decide to write off the entire squad due to current form.

So you think our attack will magically sort itself out by just hiring a new manager. Yeah okay indeed.

One of the reasons Van Gaal deserves sacking is because he refused to sign attackers in the summer and a top class CB. Both of which we lacking badly.
