Yes. I'm all for us signing one of the best players in the world.
You sound like Hamburg when they signed Van Nistelrooy. Everyone remembered his time at United and they were so ecstatic to get him. And then he was shite and didn't help the club at all. You really deserve better than picking up second-hand players.

Well, I hope for your sake that you don't buy old farts like that. Your expectations deserve better. Oh yeah sure, he's awesome with all his backflipping, huge airtime, imposing presence and mean faces, but really... I think his age alone should make United shy away from such a deal. And there definitely are better players out there than him that are younger. He's living on hype a lot.

Van Nistelrooy barely played during his last Real Madrid seasons.

Ibra is a second hand player? What. You can't compare Ibrahimimovic to the Ruud who joined Hamburg. Ruud was clearly not the same player he was at United in his last few seasons at Real Madrid, any Hamburg fan thinking they were going to get the Ruud that tore up the Premiership must have not watched football for a good five years.

Zlatan scored 50 goals in 51 appearances last season. He's still world class.

That's why I said they remembered his glory days at United. Turns out players decline when they get older... what a shocker.

Hamburg fans have been desperate for good players (=big names). The club didn't treat its fans very well in the past decade.

So you are saying that he has nothing to do with Ibrahimovic?

"criticise the post not the poster; remain respectful to other posters;" stay classy, k?

So you are saying that he has nothing to do with Ibrahimovic?
Only in that Hamburg rated a player on past achievements more than future potential. Something this thread seems to be all about.

In France? Please... :)

There is always a bigger picture. United have some interesting youth coming through. Perhaps they are backing the youth by 'considering' bringing Zlatan in? - Providing it's true-. Not every deal is short sighted and it's not about the name so much. It wasn't about the name when we signed RVP either, it was about the quality they can bring in the short term and long term - because someone like Zlatan can teach some of these kids to work harder and be the best. So not every deal is short sighted but perhaps some posters are and that's natural. You wouldn't expect a fan of another club to know our youth players

Yeah we can rate Ibra off last season and see that he scored 50 goals for PSG. Hamburg were clearly rating van Nistelrooy from 5+ seasons before he signed for them. See the difference?

I posted earlier in the thread.

Some fans say that its a short-term move, considering his age. But is it short-term or is it the fans thinking short-term?

IF we bring him in, it will be because Mourinho trusts him to not only lead the line when picked but also;

instil a winning mentality, be a leader on the pitch, help with the development of the other young strikers at United.

The longer term impact that he could potentially have, akin to what Cantona inspired with the class of 92 with his off-field work ethic in training. That is immeasurable

He will have all our kids walking around claiming to be a king. It'll end up like Game of Thrones, I'm telling you.

The more I think about it, the more I don't think Mourinho will want him. As I explained in the other thread, Ibra gives you little to no running in behind. Costa was dropped because of that last season.

In a 4231, which I assume he's going to play, a 10 and 9 of Rooney and Ibra could become very stagnant and predictable. We need variety in attack.
- - - - - Rashford
Martial - Ibra - New RW

Doable?

Think he plays there for Sweden sometimes right?

I honestly think he is going back to Malmö. The whole 'A-Z' back to where he came from makes sense.
And turn down all that money? I know he's richer than God already but it's a short career.

Yeah, I honestly think he would. He's already milking enough money out of the speculation by using his new sports brand as a vehicle. If there is one player I could see turning down money to prove a point, it's him.

Right.. Zlatan is mind-fecking everyone right now. So, he said "I'm coming, i'm coming (lol). Just wait for me." This was spoken inside the arena of his home town club, Malmö FF.. Which obviously led the swedish media to speculation. They're saying he could play the second part of the season in Sweden (which is played from April to October, approx..) before joining up for pre-season at whatever team in USA.

I can see him playing at least another 5 years to be honest so i suppose he could join them even after his Amurica adventure. He has said on many occassions that he'd never return to the swedish league and Malmö, but, i can see him doing it anyway, for a season.

Feck off, Zlatan. Such a wum. I still think and hope that we are the front runners.

Some say this signing would be very short-term, but it's in the short-term that United needs to act to gain in the long term. Having already missed CL qualification twice in the last 3 years, it's crucial to get back into that top 4, and CL qualification, in order to salvage what's left of that UEFA coefficient.
Right now, United is 20th, behind the likes of Basel and Leverkusen. If United wants to challenge for top honours again in the next few years (including CL), you don't want to end up stuck in a CL group with Real/Juve/Bayern/Barca, running the risk of ending 2nd and facing one of those teams yet again, before the finals have even properly started.

Winning, or challenging for, the Champions League may seem a little far fetched atm, but for a club of United's stature, this should be the eventual goal and getting Ibra in for next season can only help in reaching that long term goal.

We don't know if Ibra is certainly going to join Utd but his signing (or someone of his ilk) provides lot of potential advantage to Utd. Last season I felt our attack was too young with Martial, Memphis, Lingard, Rashford while our senior players in attack - Rooney and Mata - were either poor for too long or were not able to elevate the youngsters around them to a higher level. Throw in the likes of Pereira, Januzaj and Wilson as well, who I feel are better than what they showed us so far. For this reason, I'd prefer to see either Ibra or any senior striker in 27-29 age who can provide the missing link up top and can also help our young attackers to realize their full potential. By the time our new signing goes on wane, other youngsters should have become a lot better than they currently are.

We don't even have to put all our eggs in assuming Rashford and co are going to become world beaters in 2 years. If they don't reach our expectations, we can always go for a young striker later. But it would be nice if we can provide all they need to improve. If things don't work out with Ibra, we can say goodbye after a season. There are potential pitfalls of course but they pale in comparison with what he can bring if things work out. I see it as low risk, high reward signing.

My guess is that he's retiring from the NT, along with Källström and Isaksson.

He's probably going to announce that Sweden will now officially be called Zlatanland in his honour.

God, this is going to be like the time every stayed up to listen to that Chilean radio station when we thought Vidal was coming here
I'd say it's a 99% certainty that the presser is because he is retiring from the national team after the Euro's, there has been heavy speculation about it in the Swedish newspapers for a week now.

I am a Swede I agree with you. I don't think he'll announce where he will play next season.
