You question is probably rhetorical but, will answer anyway. Several have a big inferiority complex when it comes to Madrid. Madrid's been about Galacticos for a while and they've spent and got their man most of the time. Coupled with the fact that till after Fergie left, we've been reluctant to bend over on some signings so we've lost out on some possible targets.Don't get why so many are paranoid about Madrid regarding this transfer. The only question is if we're ready to pay what it takes to make it happen. That will be the only thing which can keep us from signing Pogba. Pogba will either stay at Juventus or come to Manchester United. There is no 3rd option.
Things are different now though in my opinion. No Fergie to look for value in the market and Woodward is there establishing himself as a power player in the market. He is going to splash the cash to compete with whoever is out there as long as his manager wants certain players. But, it will take a few more seasons / signings before people get over their insecurities that we are now in a place where we will compete with whomever as long as it's someone we really want.
