I have been perusing the League table.
Looking at LFC in semi- isolation, the obvious problem is conceding too many goals. And the defeats to Burnley & Bournemouth undermining the excellent results vs. 'the big 4, 5 or 6. The other title contenders haven't been losing to anyone else (City did on Sat, obvs).
Overall, there's half a sign this is a 2 horse race between the Arse & Chelsea with the other 4 competing for 3rd or 4th. Alternatively you might think it's 2 groups of 3 that are starting to emerge - City haven't had a clean sheet in 9 games, that isn't sustainable to remain in contention.
I had a quick look at this weeks games & the theme seems to be grotty away games for everyone meaning that some points will probably be dropped or exchanged. Anyone taking 6 from 6 is likely to be gaining something somewhere. If Chelsea do this it starts to look like a handy lead being established over a few, if it isn't already.
I wouldn't discount Liverpool from being in the mix to win it just yet, but they need a win fairly soon, 6 pts adrift is OK-ish, 10pts deficit won't get made up (usually).

The Karius thing is getting a bit embarrassing now. Karius himself has spoken to the press about 3x in the last week - and now Klopp is on the defensive again. Just no need.

Neville criticized De Gea more than he ever criticized Hart (who played for our rivals).

Clyne is so much better defensively, he's actually a good RB. Up there with Bellerin/Valencia/Azpilicueta/Walker in the league.

There's a difference between valid criticism and the sheer rudeness Gary often employs when he's discussing struggling foreign players.

And on Karius, he's been shite. You've got to expect criticism. Klopp just trying to take some heat off him and it's not to difficult with Gary Neville as the target.
Whenever Gary criticizes someone it's "He's not trying enough", "Put in more effort", "doesn't know what it means to represent the club" etc. Neither Gary nor Jamie have said one thing (That I saw) about how Karius could improve. Their criticism basically consists of "He's not good enough". How could Klopp take that seriously? Compare it to when someone like Ian Wright talks about underperforming players, he actually goes into tactics, positions etc. when he's tearing someone apart.
Gary was a great player, don't get me wrong. But he wanted to be a manager... took on a huge club and failed miserably. Afterwards he claimed he never really wanted to be a manager, might never again be a manager, and that the world offers to many possibilities to rule anything out. Yet a week later he's back on telly talking nonsense most of the time ("Players aren't trying hard enough. If players had the attitude we used to have, they'd be so much better etc."). He really can't blame real managers when they don't take him seriously.

Carragher has been embarassing himself on twitter today over all this. Klopp should have opened his barrels on him too.

Klopp coming across as a knobhead here. I hope he does back this Karius keeper and keeps playing him. He's shite and will cost Liverpool even more points.

Let's ignore that Valencia were in relegation before Neville and are 17th at the moment. Klopp's final season was a disaster for BVB. I understand that he's trying to defend his player but he's coming across as extremely petty.

Don't see an issue with his comments. He's sticking up for his player which I would expect from most managers. It hardly means he doesn't see that Karius has been poor and he's not going to attack Carragher who is a Liverpool legend which is also a sensible move.

Wow Klopp going in all guns blazing on Neville. Carragher has been as critical if not more so of Karius over the last two weekends.
I don't agree with Klopp's handling of this. I know that he wants to publicly back his players but he should be able to deal with media criticism, especially when it's warranted. Karius hasn't been the answer to our keeper issue so far.

I'm all for players/managers calling out these "pundits" for talking shit. Not going to have double standards just because it's the neville brothers vs Klopp.
Imagine his reaction when the media actually starts to have a pop at him and Liverpool, because he's had it plain sailing so far.
None of you have addressed my comment about Gary's habit of rudeness, rather than proper criticism.
Bizarre to use Ian Wright as an example of someone talking about tactics, I like him for his energy and passion but he basically just narrates what's happening on the screen with no analysis at all. If anything, he's the pundit who gives the least in-depth critiques of anyone on TV. Neville's credibility was compromised by being an England coach meaning he had a closer relationship with the England players which meant he failed to criticise them properly but he's generally always been very critical of goalkeepers. Keane and Carragher are the same actually, maybe partially because it's the position they can probably relate to the least, but they do seem to just expect a goalkeeper to save shots and not make errors, it's not something they think they necessarily deserve praise for doing. Let's be fair as well, City and Liverpool's new keepers have been crap so far (plenty of time to improve obviously).
It's amusing seeing people on here slagging off Klopp when the Neville thread on here is bumped weekly now, for what reason I'm not sure. There's some odd notion that he's almost biased against us, which just isn't true, whilst his punditry maybe hasn't been as good since he returned to Sky but him and Carragher are still way better than essentially everyone else on UK TV and they're both willing to actually analyse things and give an opinion, rather than the blandness of the BBC's coverage or the nonsense on BT's Premier League stuff.
