I remember one season where we won the title by getting 58 out of 60 possible points from the games against bottom 10 sides. If you consider that most titles are won with 85ish points that leaves you with 27 points(9 wins i 18 games) against better teams.
Great post.

Feck me, we're actually signing Romelu Lukaku.

Didn't see that coming.

£100m for Lukaku?!

And people thought that £79m for Morata was excessive.

Feck me.

Yes, none of these strikers are worth the fees being touted but he's a much better footballer than Lukaku and a better pivot for our other attackers to play off.
Is that arguably because you've seen too much of Lukaku?

I do think fans are harsher with more familiar players.

Is Matt Lawton reliable?

I see he writes for Daily Mail so for me degrades the reliability of this report.

No, I've probably seen roughly the same amount of both, I saw quite a lot of Morata at Juve as I watch their games most weekends.

I would be happy with this, we need goals, this guy scores goals.

I need signings any signings.

Why are people acting like we're signing Fellaini again? Lukaku is a great striker, and would put a lot of goals away for us. No reason why he wouldn't be a success with the right service.

If we can somehow shoehorn Rooney into this and get him to somehow be worth a £20-30m price cut then it's a win-win IMO.

Are we switching to 352 or 442? Morata and Lukaku.

Felix Diaz of Marca (very reliable) reporting that Morata is a step away from signing.

Lukaku is a good player - one thing I like about him is his willingness (and ability) to shoot on instinct... especially during the LvG years that attitude was so refreshing to see. He has the height and power Jose likes so the link makes sense.

Nowhere near worth £100m though, that's batshit

I'm actually warming to the idea.
I think we should push hard for Lukaku and Morata to replace Ibrahimovic and Rooney.

Would be funny see people's opinion here change if you guys sign him after so many of you constantly call him a donkey.

Would also be very interesting to see what we would do if our supposed #1 striker choice was off the table. Belotti?

The most likely thing is that the journo is using the Rooney to Everton story to try and stir a Lukaku story up.

Rooney worth a £25-30m price cut? We'll end up loaning him to them and subsidising half his wages.

If we are truly in for Lukaku then us allowing that to happen might be a sweetener, but that is about as far as it goes.

Desperately hoping this is a brief with negotiations with RM for Morata in mind though.

You'd probably go and pay the £20M less for Morata and then laugh.

Lukaku will be absolutely awesome. We're talking about a bloke younger than Lingard who was second highest scorer in league last season despite playing in an average team. Some dodgy pundits are saying he doesn't do it in big games but I can remember a time where pundits said the same nonsense about CR7 and Ibrahimovich. Lukaku will only get much better. Would be delighted with his signing

Rooney barely played last year, even less so as a striker. The only legitimate reason to buy those two would be if we are switching to a two strikers system.
