He would have been my choice at the start of summer but I was convinced he was off to Chelsea. I had come around to Morata and thought he could bring us something different. So I'm confused now. I wanted Lukaku but had been pleased with getting Morata in.

I still hope we get both. They give us options to deploy in different games and to change the game plan mid game.

Yeah I know I'm a greasy B'stard.
Club has briefed that interest has ended in Morata, that ship has sailed.

I really like Morata too.

Amazing how quickly this has happened!!

Very happy with the news. Proven PL goalscorer, strong, quick & can finish. Young enough that he can improve as well.

Beeb saying it's done?

Interesting. If true, I read that as the Morata deal being dead. We might sign another forward but surely not an out and out striker.

For me that sends the message that we can't be held to random by Madrid or anyone else. Which is probably a positive signal to be sending out to other clubs we're dealing with.
Totally agree.

Morata to Chelsea then?

Happy with Lukaku, but I think I'd prefer Morata. Not quite the powerhouse Lukaku is, but his overall technique looks a lot better.

Would be nice to stick two fingers up at Chelsea and get both of them

Its absurd. I always thought Lukaku was a vastly overrated premier league player. Now we build out attack around him? Crazy
This also guarantees boring football for the next 5-7 years.

I can't get my head around how overrated this player is.

Fecking ecstatic about this.

Simon Stones saying we used Chelsea's publicised interest in him as a smoke-screen and he was always our No. 1 target.

fecking awesome if true! Much better (more guaranteed) option that Morata imo.
Who else thinks that Morata might go Chelsea's way now ?

I take back everything I've said about him. He's world class. Bargain.

he guarantees goals - his record is pretty amazing for a player of his age
Meh would have much preferred Morata right now and think that Morata also has a lot more upside.

But at the end of the day I trust the manager and said through the Perisic shit that we got to trust him to know what his system needs, guess he knows best on this as well.

Give peas a chance.
Very pleased! He's young, will get better, has a great knack for being in the right place to pinch goals, which is what we need. Plus he's proven in the prem.

Having said that, with loosing Ibra & Rooney, we def need another striker too. So add Morata and should be spot on!
I always think this point gets brushed off too easily. He's settled in the country already, clearly is desperate to play for a bigger club, and has already shown he can score goals against the teams we'll play week in, week out. One of the reasons I'd jump at the chance to sign Harry Kane if the opportunity ever arose.

There was a rumour that Lukaku was the preferred player Mourinho wanted but everyone felt he was going back to Chelsea so think we moved onto Morata. With the Morata deal being a struggle for whatever reason (likely Real's side) and Lukaku move to Chelsea seemingly stalling, there was an opening for us to swoop in and get him so wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

+ Proven PL goalscorer.
+ Real can't (hopefully) buy Mbappe now, because feck Real.
+ Chelsea getting screwed over, hopefully disCONTEnt will grow.
+ Getting rid of Rooney.
+ Good, tidy, clean business by Ed. Shows we mean business and can go in for any player at any time.

+/- The fee, some think it's good some think it's too much. Pretty neutral.

- Not that great first touch, may be somewhat limited in hold-up play.

Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.
He wasnt really the guy I wanted but now its happened (touch wood) Im absolutely delighted. I think its the manner of the signing as much as the signing itself, I think Woodward has handled this one really well.

Also, if Lukaku was always the target, have we used Madrid and Morata as a smokescreen? I hope they thought they were getting 80M from us and were plotting using that for Mbappe.

Paying the same price we could have got Morata, I'm at a loss for words, mental.
According to Ducker they were making negotiations difficult because they still want De Gea. This is probably the best outcome for us.
