Going for BOTH Morata and Lukaku makes little sense to me if there is still a plan to develop Rashford as CF while keeping him at Old Trafford. In fact, even without the Rashford factor, it makes little sense to buy two young, hungry, ambitious and ridiculously expensive strikers considering the way Jose plays. Such a purchase will likely mean:

- Either Rashford is sent out on loan or his game time gets seriously limited. When the latter happens, many of the same people who are excited by the idea of getting both Lukaku and Morata, will likely be the same people hanging Jose for destroying Rashford's talent and for not encouraging young players.

- Either of Lukaku or Morata will likely start getting unhappy about not playing enough very soon. No matter how we spin it, Morata is not a wide man. Neither is he a supporting striker. He can play those roles but his DNA screams CF. He is a classical number 9 in the Kareem Benzema mould. Benzema drifts wide many times and can attack from there but he is essentially a CF. Locking him down to a wide position because of a 100 million bucks (or whatever the right amount is) Lukaku for a whole season and beyond, might kill him.

(Well, unless of course, Jose completely changes the way he plays and the formations that have won him loads of trophies over the years. If this is the case, we know the high risks involved)

- Anthony Martial will also suffer a drop in game time especially if Jose buys Perisic with Morata and Lukaku.

IF we are going to buy a second striker, I will suggest someone older who will be happy to be rotated. To join either Morata or Lukaku (not both), I would target players like Fernando Llorente, Harnandez or Djeko (I really don't know if any of these will be happy to be rotated but they are much older than the two young, expensive strikers we are targeting). I will even be tempted to bring back Zlatan if he agrees to be rotated and take a pay cut (very unlikely though).

The idea would be to reduce the wage bill, not to be burdened with the ambitions of two young and expensive strikers who are desperate for game time and also to provide a chance for Rashford to develop (otherwise, I would send him out on loan).

Say what you like about Lukaku but he guarantees goals. Who gives a sh*t about his first touch if he bangs in 25-30 goals. Great signing and bags of potential. Not as silky as Morata maybe but like I say Lukaku = goals.

We had a 20+ goal a season striker last season. Winning the league is more complicated than just having a 20+ goal a season. If it was Tottenham and Everton would've been champions.
I'm sorry but what the actual feck are you talking about?

Are you saying having a 20+ goal a season striker doesn't matter or something? I never even mentioned anything about winning the league.

Absolutely. I understand it, but its an important distinction for people who think Woodward has been sitting on his arse in New Zealand watching rugby games to think about. Maybe people will chill about the other signings now.
You'd think some people think a rugby game lasts a few days tbh.

So is Lukaku classed as a homegrown player?

Never thought we'd have much of an issue with filling that quota (with good quality players), but we kind of do.

Perhaps we won't be getting rid of the likes of Smalling/Jones though.

He's vastly underrated here. Guaranteed to score loads of goals for us and he's still very young. Yes, he'll miss some sitters but he's scored a lot of goals through his career. Delighted!

I wonder if the meeting Morata's agent had with Madrid in the last few days were to convince him to stay and he was given guarantees.

Which prompted Woody to act quickly and tie up Lukaku.

It's done. When craig norwood confirms it, it's done. He is tier 1 on /r/reddevils and never been wrong and I mean never. He's one step off being a club confirmation.

To be fair as much as I am not a huge fan of Lukaku.. that is a pretty decent price in the current market. If he does flop we can get 50m back for him minimum imo.

It's very interesting. I always really liked watching Morata, never been a big fan of Lukaku - him trying and completely failing to bully Daley Blind always comes to mind.

At the same time I somehow actually have a better feeling about this one than I would have about signing Morata, not exactly sure why. Was kind of hoping for it to happen after those Pogba & Lukaku holiday pics.

My only concern is that he seems to bully the smaller teams and score for fun against them but I don't remember him having many, or any, good games against the top 5 or 6?

I remember in the semi final of the FA Cup against us he missed countless chances.

Reading from Shed end that Jim White says that Everton officials have told him that no deal has been agreed.

Whats going on?
Probably people on Shed End trying to grasp at straws that they haven't lost out.

If you've been following it you'll know what happened. He was never a first choice for them yet they wanted a shit ton of money for him. They were trying to fleece us.
But why if we go for both? I'd like to see this two up front :D
Craig Norwood, announced him too actually, he used to be one of our close photographers.

Funny thing is I was watching a programme on sky yesterday about Andy Cole. And I was explaining to my daughter that the day before we signed him completely out of the blue I was moaning we never sign anyone like we did with Andy Cole. And now bang the next day we done it again

Lukaku scored 25 last season in the league alone? Impressive. I thought it would be 17-18.

24 years old, bagged 25 PL goals last season with a weaker squad than ours.

I'm happy. :D

Nothing but a big middle finger to real madrid and Perez. To be frank their move to frustrate us backfired and now they will have a discontented player on their hands. And we steal a player from Chelsea's nose. A win win for us
We are signing a striker check
Unsettled Madrid player check

It's a fair price as you say. While the comparison isn't always right, him and Kane were often compared last season and I feel the latter would only go for £100m+.

Lukaku guarantees goals, has PL experience & is probably less riskier than Morata. I think Morata has the better overall play (touch, movement, link-up) but Lukaku is a proven goalscorer & we desperately need that.

Still think we need another addition up-front.

Seems like a lot but I guess its the sign of the times.

On his day, he seems unplayable. On some days he looks like he's not played the game... He'll be reliable scorer though I think.

The guy is a monster yes he is expensive but looking at the prices around we can't get a good striker and a top goal scorer by paying 40-50m now for soory it's gone mad and I'm happy that our club can pay and the ambition is high. Look at his last 2 seasons how I wished he plays for us, Thank God, hope he can match what we want from him quickly. Congratulations.
