Not sure its over though, as I dont expect Chelsea to just watch unless he was never their prime target.
They can't do too much if Lukaku wants to join us and we have an offer agreed with Everton. I don't think they can offer more money than us in wages.

Kane vs Lukaku

2016/17 Premier League goals excluding penalties
(Think this is the fairest like-for-like comparison)

Kane: 23
Lukaku: 24

Bear in mind that Kane played in a much better attack.

Don't know how to feel about this. Lukaku is a good player, and is certainly a Mourinho type striker, but for whatever reason I'm not feeling it (then again, I was in the bag for Morata). He'll need to become way less streaky and more consistent (though that might be a side-effect of playing for Everton), and he needs to start scoring in big games.

Was Darren Bent good enough for United? Kevin Phillips? Andy Johnson? I'm not saying they were on the level of Lukaku, or that he's not good enough. What I'm saying is that number of goals isn't really an indicator of anything when used on its own.
So what do you use to measure the value of a forward then? I assume you'd criticise Ibrahimovic as well because "all" he did was stick the ball in the back of the net.

Lukaku has consistently, and at a young age, scored goals in over numerous seasons in the PL. We lacked goals last year and he has them and in a better side you would expect him to improve again.

I don't get the negativity. We sign a young striker who's proved himself in the Premier League and people moan. There's never any guarantees with any player but he's the right age to kick on. The criticisms over "big games" might prove to be right but frankly, had we had a player capable of banging in 25 goals against the teams below us last year we'd have done a lot better than we did.

Good signing for me if it goes through. Glad to see Mourinho going for a player who has done it in the PL.

I prefer Morata, but if Lukaku is really coming I think it would be great watching him linking with his supposed BFF Pogba. Lukaku may have a poor first touch and a flat track bully against smaller teams but not big teams, I am pretty excited to see how he does now with better players. Just need the likes of Martial and Mkhi to step it up next season. Can't wait!

Lou Macari has been dropping hints all week long the sly bugger.

Kept repeating NO LUKAKU when people were asking about transfers even if they didn't mention him. Thought it was odd

Exactly! All those home games against mediocrity that we drew last year! The big games are more about the tactical battle than a particular striker anyway. If Lukaku get the service he'll put the goals away, simple as that.
It might not matter if you are competing with only incosistent teams like Arsenal or Liverpool, but it performance against the top teams will matter cos Conte and Pep would also clean house with the lower teams.

Last season, in 28 games against every other team outside the top 6, Chelsea's record was 25 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. To beat Chelsea to the league would have come down to performance against the top teams.

From the Guardian -

Manchester United have agreed a £75m fee with Everton to buy Romelu Lukaku and hope to push through a deal before they fly to the United States on Sunday.

United have ended their interest in Real Madrid’s Álvaro Morata to pursue Lukaku, whose instinct has been to re-sign for Chelsea. He was sold from there to Everton by José Mourinho, who is now the manager at Old Trafford.

What the absolute feck?! I'm at work and every now and then I get the tweet section to feed my inner muppet but BANG this came out of no where!! Absolutely chuffed and a very decent price given his age, goal out put and todays outrageous market!

But why if we go for both? I'd like to see this two up front :D
Craig Norwood, announced him too actually, he used to be one of our close photographers.
Yeah, it'd be nice tbh. Maybe the Morata deal isn't as dead as they say, could be a tactic to lower his price so we have both.

I don't think there would be unified happiness on the Caf unless we signed Messi.......!!
Do not want. He's too old now, unproven in PL, not good value, and would hinder Rashford's development.

My only concern is that he seems to bully the smaller teams and score for fun against them but I don't remember him having many, or any, good games against the top 5 or 6?

I remember in the semi final of the FA Cup against us he missed countless chances.
That's why i'm so happy about this signing. We dropped so so so many big points against small teams last year and under LvG, Lukaku will give us those crucial goals to get us the 3 points against these teams. Jose is the man who will get us the 3 points against the top teams, regardless of whether Lukaku plays or not.

They can come with a higher offer to Everton and unless the papers are already signed, Everton can take the new offer if we dont match it. Dont think Lukaku is averse to Chelsea.

I hope we get him in January , their ban ends then and they could get in a replacement (Diego Costa) ?
I'd be surprised if he moved then unless Atletico were out of the CL and we were still in it. This possible news might put Costa to Atletico in doubt for the time being as well.

A few months ago I wouldn't of been too pleased but today i'm very happy. Make of that what you will.

Good price though I must say. Expected around £100m.

Magical Manchester United.
He's going to score shedloads against the likes of Burnley, Bournemouth, West Ham, West Brom et al., all sides we've struggled against heavily recently, especially at home. I have no doubts he will be a great asset and help us getting back to the top. Delighted with this (hopefully soon to be concluded) deal, and a big feck off to Real and their asking prize for Morata.

If you told me this transfer was going to happen a few weeks ago I wouldn't have been too happy.

But now after spending so long chasing Morata for £80m plus, I'd take Lukaku. He is stronger, proven in the Premiership, younger and will get you more goals than Morata. Plus this puts us in a better position regarding the De Gea situation. Utd could argue Madrid were unwilling to budge an inch on Morata's valuation so we will do the same with De Gea and get maximum money for him.

Nice!

With our recent frustrations of putting away the lesser teams in the league its nice to have a forward who constantly puts them to the sword.
