Not the fan of Lukaku but considering the market for strikers are thin I would be happy to take him.

Go back to their timeline they tweeted that a deal was agreed, my guess this is a leak from United. Now they are reporting from Everton sources that a deal has not been agreed.
This kind of comment makes internet debate pointless. A player's performance over short or long term must be judged by its own merits, not the collective success. Does anyone think less of Gascoigne or RvP even if Spurs and Arsenal weren't successful?
Yorke's Utd career is similar to Hernandez statistically. It's decent but hardly a big roaring success personally.

I would have been happy signing Morata for a reasonable fee, but wouldnt have liked caving in to Madrid's ridiculous demands out of desperation.

It's a bit odd to compare Morata in Juve to Lukaku this season? If you want to base it on goal-scoring stats alone, Morata has averaged more goals/90 mins than Lukaku in every of the last four seasons except for 2015-16. I think people think Lukaku is a better goal-scorer simply because he's in the PL and they've seen more of him.

I'm very happy with Lukaku, absolutely unplayable on his day. Does much better against the lower league teams it has to be said...but that is exactly where we have had trouble.
Also people writing off chances of going for Morata now as well, we may still be after him. Ibra is probably not sticking around, Rooney may be off to Everton. Replace two 30+ strikers with two 24 year olds would be a great/bold move!

Pros to this signing:
- Scored shedloads in the premier league in an Everton team that doesn't create much.
- Strong, Fast.
- Flat track bully (both a pro and con) Seems to score alot vs the lesser teams but goes missing against the big teams (con). This might have been down to the way Everton were setup vs the top 5 but hopefully he'll do better here.
- Young, if we keep him for long enough and develop him he could become world class
- Should get us a minimum of 20 goals a season.
- Jose knows his game.
- 75mil if correct, is a steal in this market. Even with the inclusion of Rooney.
- Has the first touch of a dyslexic goat. His first touch is almost always a pass... to himself.
- Isn't very clynical, pretty much the same as Zlatan in that regard.
- Tends to be pretty stupid in his positioning when his team don't have the ball. I watched a few Everton games against the big boys last season and Baines and Williams spent half the game shouting at him because he was stood in the wrong place or just wandering around doing feck all.

As an opposition fan, I think he'd be a great buy. With all the usual caveats about how he might fit into a new club and new team etc. etc. but he's a tremendous player.
I think there may be some hindsight bias towards Lukaku now. Would have needed to do it before these tweets I think.

I broadly agree with this. I depends on context: the idea of weakening your opposition might make some sense if you're part of a duopoly. For example, when Borussia Dortmund were posing a serious challenge to Bayern Munich's supremacy in Germany, the effect of taking away one of your opponent's main assets is worth taking into consideration. When you are competing in a league when any one of five teams are in with a good chance of winning the league there's much less sense in factoring this in to your transfer decisions.
Leaving aside for a moment whether your standards of judging success are reasonable, I think you've got "qualified" and "unqualified" the wrong way around. Something is a qualified success if it is successful on the balance of all factors, but there are significant drawbacks; an unqualified success is something you have no reservations about calling success.
