Not that it means much but... As if it was needed to be highlighted, here is "SKY's" rating imminent deals nearly done today at 19:00, 5 being complete. I am not sure but i think there is an elephant in the room outstanding by its absence.

Starting to become clearer why sky show us so negatively and who they may favour. Its actually their top story on the website yet not rated as nearing completion. The mind boggles.

Save your worries for next summer, Griez will come then.

Just hope City and Pep doesn't identify the defence as an actual part of a complete side by then.
Considering we're after four full-backs I'd say we're sorting that out. Or at least trying to.

If Griezman is going to sign some time soon, Lukaku
I'm not going to waste my time trying to justify why I think he'll do well for us.

I think he will score goals for us from the word go to be honest but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Fantastic signing.
love it, and yes just wait and see Lukaku #30goals

It's not about his goal output (which is good).

The best modern strikers (at the level we should be aiming for) are players that also make the players around them better. Lukaku's isn't that type of player. He'll probably score a decent amount of goals, maybe even more than Zlatan, but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll be a better team.
It's incredible frustrating to see any concern dismissed with what amounts to "he scored lots of goals". Even when you're specific about your concerns, some still come back with "we need goals, he scores them."

"We should pull the Matic rug from under them over this!"

Oh, boo hoo

Having a beast of a striker up top isn't a bad concept, even with some technical limitations we can make it work by surrounding him by industrious players. For example I'd really want to see in action this formation.

-----------Lukaku-----------
Perisic-----Pogba----Mkhitaryan
-----Herrera----CDM---------

To be fair Shed End seems reasonable bar one or two posts. Grand Old Team is having much more of a "meltdown".

The Willian move was incredibly vile. Spurs had organized the medical, didn't they?

Love a good center forward signings and with Lukaku we know exactly what we are getting he will score goals its just a matter of how many.

Alot of posters are saying he has a bad first touch yeah he's not Messi but it's not as bad as some are making it out to be.

Im chuffed we'll be getting a striker who has been in the top 3 goal scorers in the EPL for 5 seasons running, only aguero has scored more can' t really ask for more tbh.

Zlatan's all round play isn't marginally better, it's comfortably better in practically every regard.
I love Zlatan but he was slow AF and after his injury we played better and faster attacking football and won EL without him.

If you seriously think we would do better in PL/CL this season with Zlatan instead of a more powerful and much faster striker then that is your opinion but i am happy if we can get Lukaku cause Zlatan annoyed the hell out of me many times last season cause he slowed down our attacks many times and missed way more big chances than anyone.

Quote from the Shed-End.

They are not happy about a sugardaddy financed and constructed club as us taking Lukaku from them. I can understand their despair seeing as clubs like ours are a nuisance to the historical giants like themselves.

You kidding me, a front three of Martial Lukaku Rashford sounds positively drool worthy.
Unless you buy one of Nainggolan or Vidal, or play Mkhitaryan in midfield, no balance whatsoever there.

I hope we'll sign both Lukaku and Morata (and forget about Perisic). That plus Fabinho will make the window for me.

Excellent post about the nature of the PL and how Fergie adapted to it. I am not so sure José is of the same ilk though. He shares a lot of those similarities as you point out in terms of how he and Fergie both utilized a more direct approach but in the case of Fergie, what contributed to his approach to work was a highly unusual gambling instinct. Most managers are less likely to gamble as Fergie did, and Mourinho is no different if not even more unlikely. The other point I wanted to make is that whereas I agree that in the PL, going direct and taking advantage of the space in transitions has proven to be the most efficient tactic thus far at least. However, it has also contributed to our teams being left behind when it comes to ball rotation and game control through possession compared to the best European sides. Even our best teams could not achieve a level high enough that they can control games against the best European teams and that is down to in no small parts, to having to play a very different game against domestic opponents. This usually presents a paradox for most managers in our league, especially the unfamiliar ones. Mourinho and Fergie in the Queiroz era made up for it through adopting a deep defensive line when faced with high quality opponent so it might just work for our current manager.
Exactly Point to Point. :D Exellent assesment.

Fergie's gambling instinct was the thing which made it Absolutely rocking. That is why Fergie time existed and that's why we scored so many late goals and never gave up until the very end. Mourinho is not the clone of fergie but he thinks the same in lots of ways and that's why he has won the league and won every where in the world, and can Use some of the same Dynamics in Posession while in attack To make us better against all the smaller teams we drew last year as our transition was never resulting in some counter attacking dynamics.

Alsowhat you said about the european Philosophies being antidote to the fergie way was one of the exact reasons for Him being an under achiver in the european competions. Its a Key Paradox and difference between the PL and CL.

But one thing I would like to add in this is the Education and Play style Lvg Set up in two years for united and built his Foundations on was exactly that same european Philosophies and principles Of possesion based system. A high press and High line helps in recovering the ball in a proactive way which contributes in defense in a better way and wins back the ball proactively in the midddle itself

And Mourinho after the 3 defeats realized that and adapted to the same tactics and philosophies, so we found all the smaller teams park the bus against us. If we Play the same way this season like last season with a Mobile attacking focal point and Also add some same fergie /mourinho Direct counter attacking dynamics in the build up and play a Mix of Possesion based Principles while adding directness and faster transition In posession When Required to score goals and create more space The goal scoring problems can be solved , While Having to Be proactive and high press in defense to win the posession back in the middle itself without having to drop a deep line defense will see us getting to a better level in european stages as well against top class european sides too because this team is capable of doing that with High pressing midfeilders like Herrera and Pogba Or a new DM and also defenders who can play a high line in bailly and lindelof with ball playing abilities in posession Like a Pep or klopp team does or barcelona or real madrid or bayern do too because of those similar possession based principles. They executed it better because they had great player to do so in the midfeild , Which i belive we also have.

Zlatan is overrated by a lot of people on here, he done well for us but he cost us a lot of points by not putting away easy chances that I guarantee Lukaku would have buried. He's strong, powerful and capable of getting a goal out of nothing so I'm not really sure what the problem is he's as close to a sure thing as we'll get at this stage. I would love Morata as well but let's face it he's a massive risk.
The reason he missed so many chances is because we created so many more chances than anyone else. It also doesn't take into account how good/easy those chances were. These stats are so pointless when people use them without context.

I mean Ibra scored 28 goals for us in all comps last season, how many goals did people expect him to score honestly? In Fergie's last season Van Persie scored 30 goals in all comps, Ibra only got 2 less and that was with being injured for the last 1/2 months of the season...

We didn't come 6th because Zlatan didn't score 50 goals last season. Obviously he isn't the most clinical but he's no worse than any of the other top strikers - guys like Higuain, Cavani, Lewa, Suarez etc all miss lots of chances too. For us the stats look worse because no one else in the team was scoring and so his gets highlighted but in reality he probably did as well as anyone could expect. Trust me other top strikers miss easy chances too that's just the nature of being a striker and having a lot of chances in front of goal

What I mean is that under SAF we were the team with the ball, he didn't had an anti possession plan. In 2010 for example United had the highest possession rate in the league, in general we were in the top five and pretty close to the top like during his last season with 54% which is high but in the norm for a dominant team.

It's actually rare to see teams above 55%, that's reserved to the like of Barcelona and the new Bayern Munich.
Its Not rare anymore with Pep Klopp and wenger in this league and teams like bayern barca and madrid in europe. Its a key paradox and key difference between teams and philosophies you face in this league in smaller teams compared to top 4 in the current era. and this is what united have to adapt to in certain situations playing when playing against certain philosophies.

Nobody knows how well he will or won't perform!! Nothing is a given, ever. Remember Shevchenko? Everyone thought he'd rip up the prem. Same as Falcao - but they didn't.

What do we know? He's big, young, fast and has always scored goals.

Will he score the same amount? Who knows. But we do know he knows the prem, knows Pogba's play from France, and is an international in a good side.

Compared to our current set of strikers and who's actually available out there, he's not a bad shout!

There is a reason for it. One was playing for Everton, a mid table team, the other was playing for two of the biggest teams in the world.
Except Morata wasn't playing, that is my point. Lukaku has played regularly for five years banging in goals for WBA and Everton. Juventus took Morata on loan for a season, did not play him, and chose not to buy him. You seem to be missing the point.
