Extremely solid player. Chelsea were stupid to let go off him.

He could be United's difference between winning the league and losing it this season.

Because of how the past 3 seasons for us as a team have gone.

If any rough period occurred, I didn't want players who seem to collapse once it gets tough.
I see it but Matic gained some form back last season, if anything it was a good reason to be optimistic. If we had tried to sign after that disaster of a season then yeah I'd get the concern.

I remember United fans were roundly ecstatic over the Schneiderlin signing, but lukewarm at best at being linked with Matic.

I include myself in that.

Our most important player.

What a great midfield we've got with him and Pogba...although we will have to look for replacements for the Serb in 3-4 years.

4 years is a very, very long time in football.

Matic is so intelligent in his movement that I think he could go on for years. He rarely needs to break a sweat.

Ridiculously good yesterday. Always in the right place defensively and so calm on the ball. I had no idea he was this good a player.

I am aware of that, was just saying. He was a bargain for 35m and will be great for us for a long time. It's just a shame him and Carrick aren't 24-25 years old. We would have the best midfield in the world by far.

To be fair if he were 25 then Chelsea would have probably not sold him to us at all. They wanted to go younger with Bakayoko.

I don't think it's really an age thing. Matic's style of play probably did not suit Conte. I think they would have sold him to us even at that age.

Yep, same here tbh. I thought Matic would be ok but was a bigger risk than Schneiderlin was at the time we bought both. Shocking in hindsight as Matic has already put in more decent performances than Schneiderlin did in all his time with us.

Well, despite all the lols at Chelsea, it's not as if they wanted to sell him even now. Conte said that the plan was to keep Matic and ease in Bakayoko. They wanted Matic to stay but he refused to do so and turned down the contract extension. One can say that they could have done an Arsenal and let him run down his contract but that's an extreme situation.

I never realised how good this player was until he moved to United. Together with De Gea, Pogba and Lukaku, he is absolutely vital to our success that he remains fit and fresh. I appreciate him even more after watching how poor Morgan Schneiderlin was yesterday, and who we were mostly in agreement for LvG to purchase.

He has slotted in beautifully, thanks Roman. He looks really happy too and noticed him geeing up the crowd after the Martial pen. The man is a winner.

Matic the OCTOPUS! With his height, long arms and legs.. he really is an octopus in the middle of the field :lol::lol: At the same time very compose, dictating, calm, intelligent!

He will always give his best. His history with Jose @Chelsea (being subbed then subbed again in 25mins) will be a constant reminder to himself to play well every minute of the game. Mourinho knows this. for this reason alone i believe Matic will play every single PL match this season (if injury free)

Go Matic!

We all love United
He definitely loves a doing a drag back or two, and is good at doing it. One turn and he's away facing the opposition goal

I watched him at Benfica regularly and it was his calm presence and precise passing which impressed me the most. At Inter Jose had Thiago Motta who is quite similar player, very intelligent, nowadays perhaps slower and more limited than Matic.

For me the biggest concern was whether he could still reach his highest level with us, and so far it's looking like a fantastic signing.
Wonder why not many was bidding for him when at Benfica, then.

There are some players who amaze you once they start playing for your club. Matic is one of them.

This might sound stupid, but after years of watching RvP at Arsenal i was a bit surprised by how damn good he was at SAF's final season at OT.

I trust Jose to rotate the squad and see that Matic isn't burnt out. He's going to be crucial for the long season ahead.

Biggest surprise for me is his technical ability from deep. Can really pass with tempo and shows good skill on the ball, as opposed to just being a towering destroyer like many would have you believe.
Agree.

I think he acquired this skill when he was playing as a AM or more advanced CM role in Benfica. A very valuable and unique skill to have for a DM.

I am starting to think that, because of this, a midfield two (instead of three) can bring the best out of him. Matic and Pogba could be the world class combo duo.

Matic was always more of an AM then CDM at the beginning of his career. I remember watching him play for Serbia against Italy in the 2009 under21 euro's he was definitely playing a more attacking role. That day against Italy was the first time i really noticed how skillful he was he was unplayable the Italians couldn't handle him he was creating chance after chance and dribbling around players for fun similarly like he did against West Ham only he was doing it the whole game. He was clearly the most dominant player on the field till Giovinco tried to break his leg out of frustration. Matic came of injured but thankfully for him he showed more then enough to prove he was one of the more talented young players in world football at the time. Its no coincidence Ancelotti an Italian manager signed him to Chelsea the same year.

To think some people wanted to just move Blind into that position instead of buying Matic.
