Great win for Spurs, they are not my team but when an English side wipes the floor with a dominant European team I love it.

Just said to mate in the pub 'I bet Bale has a little smirk on his face tonight'

Fair play Spurs great stuff, Arsenal fans probably livid watching it.

They have been a breath of fresh air in recent seasons.

They deserve the plaudits. It may well end up going nowhere but it’s no surprise they are making headlines

A lot of youse sound pretty salty if truth be told
Exactly. I don't see how you can't congratulate the work Spurs have done in recent seasons.

Been that way since the dawn of time. Users come and go but the salt level remains.

Quality display by Spurs. No easy feat for any English side to beat Real Madrid so comfortably.

To think that Spurs first choice was LVG instead of Poch was madness. We ended up with LVG, the rest is history. In a way, we done a massive favor for Spurs

I hate that spurs looked so good tonight but on the other hand I was shouting for them too. I really dislike Madrid... we nullify spurs the match before but I feel we'd have played for a draw from the start against Madrid at home and would have been happy with that result too.

Are spurs a much better team than us? I'm not sure after last weekends result. Are they being well managed and getting excellent value for money from their signings and wages, certainly. Do I enjoy watching them play football, yeah I do. They have a really nice direct attacking style, it's a young team and seems to be a hungry team. I'd still rather watch united any day of course but spurs are entertaining to me as a neutral.

On a side note a blind person could see that Dele Alli was the best player on the pitch against us in the carling cup a few years back. Fergie would have signed him after that game 100%.

I like how Pochetino sets up Spurs. They defend superbly, are good at pressing and on the counter, like to play out from the back, respect possession, play with no fear against anyone and are tactical versatile. Their only weaknesss still is they lack variety in attack. Especially since Lamela got injured. Plus they are still taking forever to win something

It’s the group stage, let’s not get carried away. If they get knocked out in the round of 16 it won’t mean much in the end.

This sums them up perfectly. They are the most tactically versatile team in the league, maybe Europe. They can defend in numbers, keep possession, be pro active in attack as well as counter attack. They do lack the individual quality of the very best team which is what is still costing them but it is hard to see a better coached than them throughout the past 3 years.

Not sure why people are saying right now that Spurs are contenders to win the Champions League but we (having beaten the exact same team last weekend) are not...

Are the 2 related?

I think the reason they have not won anything during Pochetino tenure is that they lack trophy winning mentality, which requires some hard nose savvy on top of the skills and thrills. Literally, nobody at the club has ever won anything! (none of the 2007 League Cup winners remain at the club)

And they will finish without a trophy by playing so well. Irony of their season. They cant fight on all fronts which they are doing now as they will not reach to the top on any front.

If us or city slip they have it. I know that's not "winning" but they have gone from "meh will never win" to genuine contenders.

So they can beat Madrid but not us?? Hang on a minute... Madrid lost to Spurs, who prior lost to United, who lost recently to Huddersfield. Basically, Huddersfield > Man United > Spurs > Real Madrid. Huddersfield are better than Real Madrid confirmed.

By caf logic, if Spurs are Gods gift to man, then United are undoubtedly the winners of this years Champs League.

They're doing great. People here for some reason refuse to give them credit. Look at how much they spent and how much we/City and you'll get your reason as to why they don't win anything. Alright they could win a league cup or fa cup but those are just stepping stones to the big ones these days. If they had our sort of resources they'd probably have already won the league.

Fantastic from Tottenham, beating Real Madrid in that fashion. This team really needs to win something though, I think the Champions league and Premier league are out of touch this season but go for the FA cup.

Lvg deserves some credit for our current teams depth and tactical fluidity with all the versatile players because of his squad building vision.

Will not / can not last. Shame really because the stars have aligned everything’s right but because of hyper inflation/Chelsea/city/real/PSG and now us,,,they’re wage structure right now with the financial obligations to the stadium and grossly underpaying players.... it’ll be a flash in the pan, within 3 years poch/Kane/dele and company worth mentioning will likely be gone. They’ve ran it like a Swiss watch but it’s gone so far it’ll likely become unsustainable

I really enjoy watching them play and what they have done in the last 3 seasons with their wage bill is incredible.

A very pertinent point from a Spurs fan about why they have a long way to go.

QUESTION: Can you please explain what the role of a fan with a winning mentality has against say a fan that doesn't have a winning mentality. It would also be very interesting to know how this winning mentality in any way is relevant to winning or losing a game of football.

ANSWER: In the context of the discussion being had, some of us were debating whether it's fair to label one who melts after a defeat less fan-worthy than one who just takes a loss on the chin and moves on. Man Utd fans were then brought in to the discussion. Probably among the biggest melts, most would probably agree.

Now, although their league position since Sir Alex's departure has been below their expected standard, the fans, on the whole, fail to accept defeat with any grace. It's because they have built up a winning mentality that they refuse to accept anything less than victory. This whole ethos runs through the club, and will no doubt ultimately lead them back to more success in the future.

If on the other hand, as a fan base you accept defeat or below par performance without any anger or frustration it will only lead to an acceptance of being second best by the club itself. Apathy breeds apathy. Demand 100% and you may get 95. Demand 80% and you probably only get 60.

We haven't won much in recent decades despite being one of the biggest clubs in the country. And I don't think it helps when we're just happy to shrug off defeats like yesterday in this carefree manner. Or the 3-2 capitulation against West ham as anything less than the disgrace that it was.

The reality is you’ve got to be a club that (on the surface) is at least aspiring compete with the elites who monopolise the game with their influence and cash. There no reason Tottenham can’t joon that group because recently it’s been a growing group. It’s just you know full well no matter what Harry Kane says or what comes out of Tottenham, if/when real or PSG come knocking with stupid cash I mean neymar esq spura will just go bye bye everyone be happy mid table again for 5 years on budget with a new stadium and 300ml positive equity in the transfer kitty. They milk the system like Arsenal yes. It’s business more so than at proper institutions

Good thing is they will get hyper inflated prices for the players unlike arsenal.

Bad timing for the stadium.

But will kane ali go to spain? huge risk that.

Hear hear, fair play to Spurs their are doing surprisingly well in the so called group of death.

Yes, Poch has developed a good young team with a gifted batch of English talent, whilst playing attractive attacking football however his project at Spurs has delivered no trophies whatsoever as of yet, let's wait until the end of the season to assess his and the teams achievements or lack thereof.

Good to see a spanish club being well beaten in Europe. It's time the English clubs take centre stage again.
