I don't get why the contract point is being laughed at. Let's be honest here, if Sanchez's first priority was to win trophies he'd have gone to City. He's only at Utd because we're paying him a ridiculous amount of money.

This 'playing him into form' thing is nonsense. We bought Sanchez to help us right now and having a reputation for being 'world class' we expected him to elevate the attack and help mount a challenge on the CL. It never happened and infact we got worse. His arrival disrupted the momentum of the team and we were a worse team with him in it. Why should we wait for him to find form? That criteria doesn't get applied with the likes of Martial and Rashford so why should it apply to Sanchez? I give him 5-10 games into next season otherwise drop him. He has to get the Rooney treatment if the performances continue like this.

I explained why in that paragraph. Maybe you could try addressing those points?
The three games we drew had nothing to do with not playing Martial though. The Burnley draw was because Jose tried to play Lukaku and Ibra up front and it didn't work. He switched Ibra for Lingard at half time and we got it back to 2-2. Martial wasn’t even good against Leicester and he was one of the players who missed a big chance. The Southampton draw was more down to Lukaku getting injured early on.

To then say everything was rosy after that because we beat Everton, Burnley, Derby and Stoke is stretching it. Credit to Martial for the Everton and Burnley games but it’s not like the poster above is trying to make out. Sanchez was important in us beating City and Spurs for example.
In addition to what you say there, even in the games where Martial did score (and we won) our overall team performance was far from convincing and Martial himself didn't play particularly well. This is a comment I've made before and invariably prompts one or more members of Martial FC to bring up the January player of the month thing but I honestly couldn't care less. I'm happy enough with my own memory of events. We'd arguably been flattering to deceive all season but the signs were there for weeks before Sanchez arrived that we were a team that was looking less and less potent. We were only producing isolated 15-20 minute spells of good football and that same problem persisted until the end of the season.

Lot of debate backwards and forwards on here. What I would say regarding Sanchez is that he was a very disappointing signing, and that August through to December will be very important for him next season. Either he will recapture the form of old and we will have a very good player on our hands, or he will continue in the same vain. If that happens then I think he along with Mourinho will be saying goodbye at the end of the season

Indeed it looks that way. Especially since they had the league all but wrapped up in January.

I pretty sure that it's been mentioned multiple times before but, aside from the required personal improvement from Sanchez, I reckon he would also benefit from him being played up-front with Lukaku in a two-man attack.

I said last year that switching to a 4-4-2 diamond seems to fit the team quite well and I got derisory responses about the system being archaic, too narrow and 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 being the present best. Yet R.Madrid won the CL with 4-4-2 diamond, with Ronaldo-Benzema up front and Isco at #10.

I still believe pushing Sanchez up with Lukaku and getting a great #10 would be better than getting a RW and shoving Sanchez to the left. That would also utilise our subs better (Martial, Lingard etc.) and also would suit the Matic-Pogba-Fred midfield.

It's being laughed at because someone said it means he has zero incentive to perform. The contract will literally include incentives to perform. That's the way footballer's contracts work. They invariably include a few clauses about performance related bonuses.

Been awful.....we'd have been better off playing him from the bench and playing players who were in form before he came in. Really disappointing so far.

He was actually playing better (pretty well actually) when he was in full sulk mode at Arsenal before he came to us. Unless he just hates it even more at United, I can only assume that Jose is playing him in the wrong role or in a system that is generally unsuited to flair attackers (or a bit of both)

Would be a rather hollow premier league title from Sanchez’ perspective though wouldn’t it...

I think a rest this summer is going to be fantastic for Sanchez.

When you look at the amount of football and traveling he's done in the last few years I'm not surprised he didn't hit the ground running at a new team half way through the season.

He's had the Confederations Cup, Copa America and World Cup Qualifiers, in addition to playing every single game for Arsenal/United. Not only has he been playing the best part of 60 games a season for five years, but he hasn't had a Summer off in that time either and has been regularly traveling half way across the planet.

Let's see how he does with a Summer off and a pre season with his new team before writing him off.

I think he'll be huge for us next year.

When he was at Arsenal, because I didn’t know he would end up at United, I didn’t really pay much attention to him whilst playing for them. But I certainly never seen an Arsenal game when he was playing, and thought “wish he played for us”. I understand he was good at Barcelona, but he looks nothing special with us.
I could name about 7/8 Arsenal players over the years which I wished we’d have got before him. Hope he proves me wrong.

RVP literally had the same choice to make, same age, same contract situation. He chose Utd over City at a time when they had deeper pockets than us.

I mean that poster was clearly taking it to an extreme. We don't know the ins and outs of Sanchez's contract but it looks like regardless of goals and appearances bonuses, and performance levels, he is guaranteed to be a very wealthy man over the course of his contract.

There's no reason for him to be as hungry as a younger player who's still got the two biggest contracts in their career ahead of them, looking at pure incentives.

Lee Dixon would probably get in this team at the minute. The bar isnt quite as high as it was years ago. In 2016, he was head and shoulders above Memphis Depay or whoever the feck we had up there.

You're not alone. No doubt he's a good player, all-around good technical skills at Arsenal, never seen him at Barca. Nothing impresses me about him except his drive, aggression and fighting spirit. Those three features.. are what're lacking among the United players overall after Zlatan is done. So the signing for me make sense.

I'm optimistic he'll finally deliver.

Buy him some dogs and watch him woof...
:DWell.. that's actually true, he need runners around him to fetch his passes.

Having an attacking minded natural LB playing and more attacking RB are a good start. Sort of like at Arsenal full of runners. Pogba, Lingard, Lukaku, Mata, Shaw, and Herrera combined well with him so far.

We paid huge wages to RVP and also huge bonuses too, not sure what City offered him.

Again not sure what your point is. RVP signed for ManUtd when City were champions, Sanchez joined ManUtd when City were almost guaranteed championship.

How long should we persist in playing hi into form? He was poor in everygame while we had Rashford/Martial sat on the bench.

Yes the title race was over, but 2nd wasn't nailed on and we had the fa cup so I don't think persisting with sanchez in poor form was the way to go.

But, here's to hoping he turns it around next season. He is a good player, just needs to turn up for us

The problem is neither really looked any better with the time they were given, Rashford especially.

I really don't see him turning it around tbh, he was painful to watch most of the time last season.

People have been considering here whether him being 29 is indicative of him being too old or still theoretically peak condition, but this really varies a lot from player to player - age alone clearly doesn't tell the full story of where a player is in terms of their development, career and physical condition; body type and facial characteristics are also important to consider and provide a lot of evidence for where a player is. Look at Januzaj, for example, he is 23 but he still pretty much looks like a naive Bambi. However, with a few more years of toughening up he'll start to come in to his own and likely hit his peak pretty late. Young also still looks fresh-faced, despite being 32, and his continued pace and fitness is testament to that. Zlatan was also still clearly in pretty good physical condition when he arrived at United at 34, and he was very good until unfortunately taken out by injury.

Sanchez, on the other hand, looks like he's now turned in to a wrinkly old piece of leather. He looks like someone who has had a difficult life, started playing professional football at a young age, and would regularly bust a gut on the pitch. I think that it's now caught up with him and the clock can't be turned back.

It'd be scandalous if he kept getting picked ahead of Martial. I can only hope that the signs of Martial staying turn out to be correct, and are an indication that he's ready to demonstrate again why he should be on the pitch and Sanchez should be put out to pasture.

Agreed with this.

He’s looked like Rooney did when the decline was obvious.

Yep, I think we finally got rid of Rooney and replaced the wrong version of him. Seeing him last season really did feel like watching the Rooney of his last 2-3 seasons here. I hope he proves me wrong next season but I genuinely think he's finished as a top class player.

Well, it seems that Martial could leave the club. So, I hope Sanchez can be the game changer we need in our attack. But I agree with your post, we have high expectations and at the end, he could continue being painful to watch.

Better be the dog's bollocks next season. We need goals.
Agreed and I don’t see it.

I think it’s fair to assume Lukaku will probably score a similar amount to this season, but unless Sanchez has a worlds of a year, or our RW actually does something I’m not convinced we have enough goals in the side.

Reminds me so much of Di Maria for us. In fact, Di Maria had better games. Either way, what a shit signing he's been. What happens when you go for 'quality' over team needs.

2018/19 most hated player already.
But if a stretch.
His signing has been linked to the impending sale of a young popular player. He has to deliver or its a monumental loss in more than one way .

He's already portrayed as someone who has supposedly ruined Martial's career and is on a decline on massive wages.

Pretty sure no one thinks Martial's career is ruined and I've not seen that. Probably the opposite as people expect him to perform at his next club.
As for Sanchez, he simply has to perform.

He has to but as I said he'll be the fall guy definitely next season.
