I like him. Great movement and work rate and has the talent to be a very useful player for us. I dont personally think he's talented enough to become a key player and maybe not even a starter long term, but a long term squad player like him is very useful to have and something we've lacked for a while.

He is the only positive from the game. Good goal and woked hard all game. I can't tell if his crosses are bad or our forwards are not making runs inside the box.

Are you being serious with this response, I honestly can't tell? I liked the passion he showed after seemingly rescuing a point in the dying minutes for Utd.

Also when we're reminding players what it takes to be successful at this club there are quite a few that need to be before him in that queue.
Completely serious. He’d seemingly forgotten the whole point of the football match was for his team to win, not for him to score. Ben Stokes in the cricket couldn’t have given a feck about his 50 and 100 today, and only celebrated when he get the job done to haul his team out of a mess.

When Martial is dragging you and imploring you to show some urgency, you might need a reminder of where you are.

Quite surprised with how fundamental he seems to be in our set-up. Like many here I gather James would be used quite sparingly and fundamentally used as a effective impact player.

On one hand its positive that Ole has a fair amount of faith in the player but on other other hand it currently typifies the disastrous lack of offensive depth and one of pure negligence, on United's part, in not bringing in atleast one experienced reinforcement in the summer.

Find it quite comical that we do seem, having been impressed with his 2nd half performance over the weekend, to have signed yet another left sided attacker.

He really has to work on his dribbling and upper body strength/ability to hold off defenders. With his pace and acceleration, even if he's not a gifted dribbler, if he builds his strength, he'll be able to his nose ahead and put in a ball.

Great energy and goals so far.

He's scored 2 goals in 3 games (1 as sub). Great start for a youngster making a big step up in levels. I'm surprised he is not getting more praise and higher ratings. No one had him even being in the team when he was signed. I think they're is a lot more to come from him as his confidence grows too.

Agreed.

Cracking goal too at the weekend. I didn't expect James to start this well but he's a player I'm very pleased with.

I'm not too dissatisfied with our forward 3 at all over these 3 games, the LB and midfield are the unsatisfactory parts of the side. Not sure what to do at LB but with Gomes, Fred, Mata and Matic we've at least got options to re-jig that CM and AM.

You are seriously comparing him to Ben Stokes who has played over 50 test matches at the highest level? Ffs!!
The kid has taken part in 3 matches at the highest level (EPL) and scored twice. He leaves everything out on the pitch and seems determined to forge a successful career with us.
Granted he has a lot to learn both technically and mentally but that will come with experience. I doubt if he will celebrate on his own the next time he pulls us out of the shit against the likes of Palace, when the likes of Martial and Rashford can't hit a barn door.
Give the kid a break, he's one of the positives so far this season. So many snowflakes on this board recently.

He shouldn't be starting for us, but our squad is so bad he is. I don't want to criticise the player at all. He shouldn't be in the position and is doing as well as he can. We should obviously have signed a quality right winger long ago but we didn't and we didn't do it in the summer. So we have Daniel James a young player from the Championship who has mostly played LW starting as RW.

I actually feel a bit sorry for him - he gets a big move to a big club and should be here to learn and develop but he's thrown into the deep end unfairly. How can he learn in this pathetic squad?

Looking at the start hes made, its promising, bit rough at the edges but not that bad - if you're Jesse Lingard you should be fecking embarrassed at what you've put into the team in comparison.

I like Dan James a lot, not least because he feels like exactly the type of signing Fergie would've made and it would've turned out similar, so there's also a bit of nostalgia if that makes sense. Showing a lot of passion while wearing the shirt and wearing himself into the ground each game, can't wish for more.

I really like James. Hes the type of transfer based purely on Football ability rather than commercial profit. In the end you are building a football squad to win. The misconception that a lower reputation player cannot be commercialized is wrong. If this player performs well consistently and the team starts winning then almost all players can be commercialized.

one thing I've noticed with him is he's far more comfortable and dangerous on the left than he is on the right. He seems very comfortable cutting inside and looking to combine or look for a shot, and he can also go down the left if the defender gives him the outside.

Its less than ideal that we have no one who is really comfortable on the right....

The one bright spot of a sea of darkness this season, has a lot to learn but he's 21 so its a given this season and has bags of potential, already shown he can score goals in the Prem which is a lot more than some can muster at the moment, took his goal really well too.

Cant expect him to get loads of goals and assists but would rather watch him learning, making mistakes but improving (hopefully) than more game time to Mata just wasting space and time.

Not really surprised at how much he's playing but, I am surprised at how well he's playing. Unfortunate about the 2 yellow cards for "diving" but, hopefully that doesn't deter him too much from playing his way.

The best thing about him so far is he is making himself available into the goal scoring positions. He could have scored in the first half too had he kept his composure. Even in his off days he will have those amazing moments. Happy with him so far.

Some don't like being proved wrong here, the script was that he was going to a Brexit FC flop. Only saw his goal today, let's be honest if Martial had scored that then the hype machine would have gone into overdrive.

True. Not to mention some vitriol aimed at him by some fat United fan YouTuber...

His goal was a wonderful finish, but celebrating an equaliser in the final minutes at Old Trafford is not the right mentality... Retrieve the ball and get the game started again as soon as possible to push for a winner.

What i like about his goal, it is exactely the type of a finish i wasn't sure he's able to produce already. Very good shooting technique, keept his calm and curled it into the top corner.

It's the type of shooting technique i miss from Rashford lately, he's concentrating on power most of the time. Even though he has already proved that he is capable of it. (FA Cup vs WestHam in his breakthrough season).

Give him a season or two and that is exactly what I would expect him to do but you have to give young lads a break for that.

Makes a refreshing change of pace (no pun intended) to have someone willing to take on their man on the right. Has pace to burn.

Yeah he's raw af. But we knew that didn't we? What I like about him is he's actually passionate about playing for us too. Looks like he's living his dream and puts a shift in to win the ball back as well as attacking with intent. I'm not sure how anyone can criticise him. He's come from the lower leagues and actually looks like one of our more dangerous players after having his dad die and only being a united player for a couple of months. He's clearly mentally tough as hell, which is exactly what we want and need. At least when he has the ball you get excited.

Oh yeah. And he's doing that thing, you know the thing? Where the ball goes in the back of the net. Yeah. That.

Feet up at home.
Hw will grow into a starter, same as AWB and Harry are now. Add the couple of MFs we need next Summer plus finally a RW and a striker and we are set.

Looks a lot better on the left as he has every time he's played there, I see a lot of potential for him in that role actually, not so much on the right wing sadly. He's still quite raw but his attitude and work rate are fantastic, I predict it'll be a few years before we see the best of him, early signs are quite promising though.

I think he can be forgiven at this stage of his career, probably still buzzing from playing at OT and scoring is a big deal to him, should be encouraged. He will learn these things with time and probably just forgot the situation for a second, at least he doesnt seem phased by playing on this stage, just needs to learn a final ball more but that will come, took Giggs ten years to learn to cross after all.

I think he's technically lacking but he has great pace, good dribbler & superb work rate. He loves high press which is Ole's style of football. His asset to put pressure on the opposition quickly & also his pace helps us winning free kicks are good assets.

People always say Lingard is like Park, I don't see the similarity. James is more similar to Park with superb pace.

Not too sure about those saying he lacks technical ability, he’s got a surprisingly good touch and he showed good striking ability at the weekend. His short passing game looks good too, he’s hit a few nice passes with the outside of the boot. Would like to see him drive at the full backs more but he looks to have a good foundation to build upon, hopefully he starts to express himself a bit more and I expect he’ll showcase some nice ability.

He's got that fight in him which many players in our team lack. He got kicked several times and he kept going.

Can’t believe James is still getting criticised for this.
If Pogba had scored that goal people would have been having kittens over it and not a word would be said over him posing and celebrating. Oh I forgot, he’s won the World Cup hasn’t he.
Pogba wouldn't have got criticised? Good one

It was a great goal and well taken considering we were losing so the composure shown to put it in the top corner was great to see from a young lad. Some of our other strikers would have lashed at it in the same position or tried a laces shot and hoped for the best.

Obviously his pace is there for all to see and some of these referees need their wages docking with the incredible yellows they have been issuing him.

What I'd like to see more from him is taking players on down the wing and getting them to commit to making tackles and winning free kicks or skinning them and creating opportunities to shoot or play somebody in. I want him to put the fear in to defenders so that they absolutely soil themselves knowing they are up against a player who not only can run on to a through ball with his pace but take them on with the ball at his feet too.

Early days but he has the potential to do all of this.

After Wolves he was heavily criticised by fans. He has shown since he has come in, he has the drive to play for Manutd. He is currently better than Lingard.

I understand some frustration at him celebrating instead of getting back to the half way line but that is completely down to inexperience and I'm sure it wouldn't happen again. And when you think back to how much of a deal was made of his debut goal and celebration, it's understandable that he would get a bit excited again.

Those who are still bashing his ability though, are you just sticking to the narrative handed to us because he was from the Championship? We've had far worse young players join us over the years but got much more backing from fans than this guy who has scored 2 in 3. It's a bit weird how everyone seems to put an asterisk to each performance saying he isn't good enough.

I didn’t watch the palace game. Was he better on the left than the right, when he switched there?

Much better. He look a lot more willing to take on defenders and he put a few crosses into the box. Most of our attacks went through him when he was moved to the left.
