 when ? He literally spent the entire match making the wrong decisions.

Like below, where he had the oppertunity to pass the ball into open space for AWB, instead of just runs into two Arsenal players and loses the ball

Early into the second half there's this gem after AWB makes a tackle to allow us to counter attack:

He can easily pass the ball into open space for Cavani initially:

Decides that he'll run further with it, still has plenty of options for the pass.

Overhits it and loses the ball.

Then there's this gem when he's subbed off:

Shooting from that distance when it's 0-0 and you have other options, jesus fecking christ the decision making.
Wow that second one is just awful.

Rashford should never start for united except if we know theres a definite counter attacking play.

He is just so so mediocre. Just another welbeck.

I think Rashford was given instructions by Ole to run forward with the ball. This is the trouble with instructions.

If you don't follow it, you get scolded. If you follow it, you also may get scolded.

His decision making is horrible. Just so inconsistent. We cannot keep relying on him and Martial for goals.
Then we'll spend the whole summer budget to get Sancho, who isn't that consistent either. Hmm..

As for his performance today, he's still only 23 years old.

The fact he can be a world beater against pool but awful the next week is going to happen.

Stop playing him out on the right-wing FFS. It's even worse when you consider that he's playing out there in order to crowbar Martial into the team. It's not working, period. He got 7 goals and 6 assists on the right, 6 and 3 as a centre forward and you throw him on the right.

On a broader point, it's more than a bit annoying that we're still playing our players out of position.
Everyone knows hes better on the left. That not the issue, the problem is that his descision making is awful and hes being incredibly selfish

Racial abuse in social media should be no different you racial abuse in person. These scumbags should spend a couple of years prison for it, not just be banned from Twatter.

On Rashford, the aforementioned poor decision making is demonstrated repeatedly and regularly. I can’t see that this is something that he’ll just grow out of or even develop. It’s innate within him. He cannot read the game as well as other players can.

Even if he scores next week the stat fans will quote a figure of “ x in x” as somehow proof he’s a top player again, but it doesn’t make up for the dozens and dozens of chances in the previous 5 matches he’s been almost solely responsible for destroying.

Whether people want to admit it or not, when Rashford touches the ball, unless immediately through on goal (where even then he isn’t brilliant) there’s an expectation now that the very next thing to happen is an opposition onslaught at our goal. That’s what we now EXPECT and yet there’s still the pretence that he’s a top player.

I love the “dribble until you lose it” description above. Sums him up perfectly

He was absolutely shit yesterday, he kept making the wrong decisions. It took 80 minutes for Ole to make a change. I actually believe if we had sub him out around 60 minutes we might have won the match, that's how pointless he was. he literally handicapped us.

The problem with our attack is, you need attacking players who make good decisions in and around the box (knows when to pass and shoot). We have Martial who is normally good at retention of ball and makes good decisions but terribly off form. Cavani who makes good decisions but body not helping mind, Greenwood who along with Rashford is selfish and has terrible decision making.

The solution is to play only two of them. Play Cavani and One of Martial/Rashford/Greenwood. then flood the midfield with Fred, VDB, Pogba and Fernandez. Say what you want about them but all of them consistently make better decisions then these former players.

One of our main problems in a nutshell is Ole's poor in game management. As you rightly said Rashford should have been hooked around 60min mark. DVB or Matic should have replaced McTom as we started to lose the battle in midfield then. Ole clearly has his favourites and it's unfortunate as I do feel it costs us.

I don't think age is relevant with consistency especially with him. He's around a few years now so he has plenty of experience.

There was a tweet by Miguel Delaney saying that Ole shouted at him to take on the full back because he can’t defend.

He’s proven plenty of times that he has the vision and passing range to play the right pass, I think the problems go much much deeper than the fact that he’s shit, like many people seem to have decided.

I think Rashford actually needs to become more selfish and not less. His best position is inside left, with his game for any given match adapting to the opposition. Currently though he is frequently being asked to play on the right to accommodate a far more limited and out-of-form Martial. From here on, it should be Rashford as either an inside left behind a centre forward or as the left-sided split striker. It’s not doing him or United any good to have him being the fall guy.

People are are always acting a little polemical with Rashford. He’s one of the best forwards in his age bracket in the world. It’s weird how many supporters don’t want to believe it and always want to put him down. He’s got a fantastic amount of attacking returns this season, outstripping what Rooney was doing at his age with a better team and colleagues around him.

Yesterday is a good example of the hypocrisy around Rashford. He was torn apart for his finishing against Leicester, when he actually scored, but was still considered to have had cost us the game for missing further good chances. Cavani at worst had the same amount of xG yesterday as Rashford did against Leciester and by some sources had even more. The consensus appears to be that Cavani had a net positive contribution yesterday, despite converting nothing, yet when Rashford scores he still cannot escape criticism for poor finishing.

I am struggling to envision any future for United that doesn’t see the team based around Rashford as our main left-sided attacker for the foreseeable future. How do people think he is one of our main problems? Literally any team in the world would want to sign him.

I feel he can make immediate improvements to the decision making aspect by simply looking up. He's probably not as selfish as what it appears just a case of no awareness of team mates positioning. Greenwood does the same too sometimes.

Pretty bizarre post given his performance today, which had nothing to do with low percentage football and everything to do with piss poor decision making.

Like the one here coming in from the left:
He can easily play in Martial

Ignores it, keeps running: The pass to Martial is still on, Martial can then either attempt to take on Luiz or it can be a one two with Rashford running into space to receive the ball again and go for the shot

feck that, keeps running, there's now very little space to play the ball to anyone.

Casually gives the ball away, after ignoring every option to pass the ball

Arsenal instantly counter attack, and they aren't that far away from Pepe being one on one against De Gea, fortunately AWB gets to the ball first

I thought he was solid against Liverpool in the FA cup, just an overall excellent balance between picking the right moment for when to pass the ball and when to go for it on his own.

Then there's today, which is just an epic shitfest of bad decisions. It has nothing to do with where he plays, and everything to do with his decision making abilities, which is pretty fecking shit more often than not.
Huh? I know he’s not played well, anyone could see that without screen shots of it. Are you going to do the same thing for Cavani or Martial? That one on the left happened because Rashford beat his man if I remember correctly? Did Martial attempt to take anyone on today at all?

Also, Rashford played on the left against Liverpool? If you’re going to use one screenshot of him giving the ball away on the left, to show why him playing on the right isn’t a problem. I’d argue why has he put in a goal and assist performance against Liverpool from the left.

He played on the left vs Sheffield and had one of the worst games ever. It's not a position thing it's consistency and football intelligence/decision making.

He will have bad games every now and then you know. They all do.

He's far better on the left though. Just look at the game Vs Liverpool last weekend. He tormented them.

Shaw n Rashford are actually a good combo. They combine nicely.

I love Ole to bits but he's starting to annoy me with this Rashford on the right experiment. It's hurting Rashford and the team.

The whole team did. I’ll probably leave the conversation here, because everyone seems to have made their mind up that he’s not good enough.

In my opinion if you replace Rashford with anyone else in the league in that game, it’s the same result, in this team. City left out how many players against them yesterday and won? The issues are deeper than Rashford’s decision making.

It's exactly ONE WEEK ago since Marcus Rashford tore Liverpool a new one in the FA Cup; by providing one of the greatest ever assists I've ever seen and by scoring a superb well taken goal, topped with a neat finish.

Doing something like that against Liverpool used to get you into our history books... but these days, one week later we can be calling you 'not good enough'.

The modern Manchester United fan makes me wanna vomit.

Exactly.

And let's not forget he's scored 10 more than the next best player in our forward line up. Who exactly do they think is coming in to replace him? Messi? Ronaldo?

Rashford is more than good enough on the left. In fact I think he's very good. However on the right I'm not convinced at all but that's on Ole. He should be able to see that it's not his strength. He's got no left foot really so he's cutting inside to just pass sideways or shooting from right from impossible angles.

Get him back on the left and results will improve.

I have no idea how you've managed to miss the entire point here, or why you need to bring other players into the debate. If Cavani had scored two goals yesterday, it wouldn't have improved Rashford would it?
He was excellent against Liverpool in the FA cup, not just down to his assist and goal but his overall play. But displays like that are miles between, no matter where he plays.
In terms of his decision making, it doesn't matter where Rashford plays, people try to argue that his shit decision making is down to if he's on the left or right side of the pitch and that Ole is to blame for his performances.... It's equally shit down the left, like when he was moved out wide against Liverpool in the league match because he was trying to set a guinness record for most offsides

The most dissapointing thing is that he lacks energy now. He seems lazy, his body language is awful. Obviously, injuries/tiredness can impact that.
But this is not Marcus Rashford that we know.

Yep, Ole sure told Rashford to run with the ball and ignore his team mates in far better positions...

The endless excuses for him that I have not seen in any other United players in the past

Well, it's an issue. Is decision making is poor at times, there's no doubt about that. But to say it's not an issue is not true. He's been awful on the right-wing since moving there. The guy has 15 goals and 10 assists, which is one goal behind Bruno and far in front of any of our other attackers. Out of those goals and assists, I think only two of them came from the right. Last season he got 22 goals and 12 assists (not too shabby), all from the left and centre forward position. Didn't play on the right-wing once. You can't just simply say "that's not the issue" and move on. It's certainly part of the issue.

It's clearly not working out there and has contributed massively to his poor performances lately. Obviously the criticism is hyperbolic in the extreme on here as it tends to always be. The guy has played over 260 games, got something close to 90 goals and 50-odd assists. And he's still only 23...

If he was playing or PSG, Dortmund - or whoever - there would be plenty of threads created on here with "why aren't we looking at Marcus Rashford" etc. He's frustrating, he has a lot to learn, he needs to improve in certain areas. But let's have some perspective on here.

Needs to play from the left and needs to get his head up and seek out teammates. Far too wasteful.

Really good post. Greenwood and Rashford have shown enough to prove they should be starting on the right and left from now on. Martial should be busting a gut to make an impact as a number 9 as and when he needs to be rotated with Cavani. No more square pegs in round holes, it's not necessary.

Vs Liverpool we played counter attacking football. That the only tactic he looks good in.

This. Yes he was shit yesterday, no doubt about it. And yes he is inconsistent in his performances and decision making.

But the solely focus on the bad things from many people is unbelievable. The negativity towards him and other players is a disgrace imo. It's slowly getting to the point that i don't want to follow this forum anymore.

Absolutely. I also think he looks quite sad in himself. I wonder is there personal problems. His lack of effort and energy is not like his former self. I hope he's not just buying into his hype and thinking he doesn't have to work hard anymore. It's a big problem when he plays now.
