I think he has to start over Rashford. Looks much more physical and dynamic. His offensive and defensive outputs are better. Really hard to justify selecting Rashford over him right now.
I think a super sub is the ideal role for him and where he has done best. He should learn his trade and can't yet be burdened with being an upgrade on Cavani, Rashford (and Martial) . They need to step back up.

Editing my own posts.
Very nice finish. Didn’t expect him to step up and prove so clutch lately. Long may he continue to prove me wrong.

Yes definitely. You just know Rashford would have stopped his run there when he saw the defender or ran into the back of him or fallen over or wouldn’t have been in the right position to receive the ball. He’d probably be walking around the right with his head down.

You need guys like Elanga to unsettle teams. Rashford was in the pocket all night. A pocket of his own making too.

Great moment for him. Suicidal goalkeeping mind.
Disagree. Watch the goal again, Elanga is looking solely at the left hand side of the goal and then shoots right. He sent Oblak the wrong way leaving him looking like he was in no mans land. Great finish.

Needs to be praised more for making the run. As soon as Fred made his pass he was off; saw the opportunity was there and took it.

The lads made the 2nd leg our advantage now, well done

Elanga just gives you everything you want. He doesn't look like the next Salah, the next Robben, the next Messi. But he runs in behind, he closes down opponents, he shows desire and drive and he doesn't let his head drop. So many more 'experienced' players played like their balls hadn't dropped yet. Making stupid decisions, panicking in possession. 19 year old, playing away in a heated environment at Atleti, never let the basics of his game go to pot: First touch, dribbling, short passing. Well done to the boy. He's got the mindset to be at the top. We need more of that, instead of players who want it all their own way and can't function if its the other way.

The combination of fantastic physical condition and a willingness to do the simple things with maximum effort makes him the perfect player for Ralf.

Needs to start the home leg in place of Rashford, who really needs to take note of why Elanga is succeeding while he’s failing.

Lovely interview just now on Bt. Seems a really level-headed young man. Nice to get an insight into what Ralf asks of him. I expected him to start tonight and he should at Old Trafford.

Elated for Elanga!

Good run and goal. I thought he had scuffed it and messed it up, but was wrong.

He added a lot more movement up front, which we were lacking with the front three, who were all pretty poor today.

I think it's one of those looks like a scuff finish but it's actually a really good one.

He saw where the keeper was and made sure to slide it in away from Oblak.

Waiting for some to criticize his finish …
Waiting for some to say Fred can’t even pass, forget about passing forward…

Great run, thing he scuffed the finish slightly but who cares, it went were he intended. Great option of the bench.

When the players celebrated the goal, I found Sancho is taller than Elanga. Is it real? I don’t remember Sancho won any aerial duel but Elanga has done plenty in the league games.

Just in case anyone missed it. I don't like Mount.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
He's got pace, a fair bit of strength, good work-rate, good in the air, and a decent level of technical ability. I'm not sure what level he'll reach long-term, but right now he is outperforming our other attackers other than maybe Sancho. The two of them are obviously our starting wingers based on current performance levels. It probably is important not to overplay him so Rashford will still get a fair amount of chances, but Elanga should get the more important games (such as the second leg of this tie).

I'm not sure about the height comparison, but Elanga is quite strongly built and is surprisingly good in the air. Off the top of my head he kind of reminds me of Evra in that regard.

Superb run and really made Bruno's mind up for him.

Not as technically gifted as our other wingers but he's as effective through effort.

I did read somewhere this morning saying that Elanga worked on his physic and jumping this summer. He apparently also inherits from his father for the athletics.
