Sorry but this is a myth.
We were shite against Swansea, losing 2-1 on the first day of the season at home, then we drew back to back against Sunderland and Burnley, generating 2 shots on target in the latter (which would become a recurring theme of the Van Gaal years)
We beat QPR with a decent scoreline, but with the Leicester result factored in we basically one won game in our opening five league matches.
I vaguely recall that we played quite attacking in the Leicester game, but it certainly wasn't the case that we were playing 'great attacking football' in every game until that defeat.
Yep, that Leicester game became an absolute myth.
Other than the QPR game at home we were absolutely dreadful at the start of the season, got battered by MK Dons in the League Cup as well, I mean…
Neither is fit to lace o'shea's shoes. He was a underrated player, every title winning squad needs players like o'shea.
O’Shea was good for us for sure.
But he played in SAF led teams, whilst McTominay played 3 years under Ole, they’re not the same.
McTominay would be winning league titles in SAF teams. I mean, Cleverley was a starter in 2012-2013, and everyone thought be was crap.
He wasn’t great by any means, but yet under SAF he held his own and didn’t look out of place against Xabi Alonso, Khedira and Ozil.
SAF was special.
