Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
Yup,

I was having a similar conversation earlier on here regarding McTominay.

It seems the Caf has its scapegoats and will hold that select few responsible for any mistakes no matter if it's not actually their fault.

DDG I guess falls into this category, despite him actually being relatively decent on the ball.
You’re absolutely correct and you’re about to be inundated with people claiming he’s a Sunday league player, despite a shit tonne of evidence to the contrary.

yeah. he wouldn’t get anywhere near a starting berth for the ‘dog and andrew’ second 11.

Mate, McTominay is not a "scapegoat", he is shite. He is the main reason our midfield is shite. Not because he's a scapegoat, but because he's shite. He would not start for a single top 16 team in the premier league. Not as a DM, not as box to box (his so called 'true position') or as an attacking midfielder. He is shite. He is demonstrably one of the worst midfielders in this entire league. I'm not even going to talk about his lack of technical ability or positional awareness, the lad is literally afraid of the ball. Once again, people shit on him because he's shite not because he's a scapegoat.

The constant affection for this absolute nothing player is baffling.
The constant belittling of players who are actually quite good is baffling if you ask me.

Mctomminay isn't rubbish but he's not quite good either. He's an engine room with no technical ability but good heart and determination. Consider the midfield of Chelsea, Liverpool and City and it's a highlight of how far behind United have been in midfield talent. Though Pogba didn't turn up consistently his departure it's still a considerable drop in quality for the midfield area.

As it stands the best midfield I can think of since SAF retired doesn't feature Mctomminay nor Fred but was Herrera, Matic and Pogba.

And little to no awareness of what's going on around him.

What's fascinating about comments praising McTominay is that they're always prefaced with the admission that he lacks any technical skills. Notice we're not talking about a defender or a goalkeeper, but a midfielder; not arguably or debatably, but definitely the most technical position on the pitch. Midfielders are specialists in passing, controlling the tempo of the game, and dribbling - that's technique; if they can't do that what worth are they? Okay midfielders with poor technique exist, but they usually make up for it in defending. But Mctominay is not a good defender as his tackling is poor (elbowing players and reckless fouling isn't a skillset), and positional awareness is awful. Probably the worst in the league in his position, including substitutes.

"Engine, heart, and determination" aren't football skills. Yes he seems like a nice bloke and seems to give it his all, but personality isn't a football skill. Perhaps the closest thing I can praise him for is his stamina. If this bloke was bought for 30-50m from Germany, France, or Portugal you would all hate him. The only reason he's here this long is because he's an academy lad. There's no midfielder he starts over in any other premier league team.

He's not even good enough to start as a midfielder for Scotland. Seriously, why are you all so content with dross players as long as they're local? How can you watch Bayern, Barcelona, Madrid, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, or even fecking Brighton or Newcastle and come back to us to watch Mctominay and determine he's "good"?

What the feck?

Have to admit that I have not been able to watch any of the 3 friendlies in Australia. But I have read about the reviews, which in the main seem positive.

Probably one of the biggest criticisms about United in the last few years has centred on the very poor standard of coaching and preparation of the players
Many threads identify this problem.

But from the little I have read, coaching and fitness and preparation seems to have been significantly improved.
A very long way to go.
But I am increasingly hopeful that we at last have recruited someone who really understands the modern game.
And more importantly knows what he is talking about.

If that really is the case, then we should finally be able to look forward and not constantly looking back at successive failures.

Have to mention that I am an optimist by the way.

Mctominay is quite good? You must be taking the fecking piss.
I think he's the most upgradable payer we have but, raw talent wise, I reckon ETH can make a useful player out of him. He's actually technically decent - I don't get why people are saying he's not, his issue is positional which kind of makes sense when you think he's had minimal coaching.

Quite good? He is mediocre at best, compare him to actually good midfielders and it is one of many reasons why we have been shit in midfield for so long

It’s not Mctominay’s fault we’re so deprived of technical CMs he keeps playing. It’s also not his fault he hasn’t been coached into a proper DM all these years. He’s not a CAM he’s not a DM he’s basically a box to box because of his stamina and workrate. He can dribble a bit, pass a bit, shoot a bit. He basically excels at nothing because nobody tried to train him into something

i get why people are frustrated with the lad, but honestly we’ve been shite in general for a long time. at least he offered the minimum the past 3 years.

hence why i hope we get someone like Sangare in.

Yeah I do wonder how many of our players could've succeeded over the past 10 years if they had stepped into a well oiled machine like we used to have during the Fergie days.

Fergie made guys like Fletcher, Brown, Park etc look like they were great players. I have no doubt we'd be laughing at them had they been Pool players back when they were shit. (I fully expect fans of Park and Fletcher to have a go at me for this)

Under Ten Hag's coaching it's already starting to look like Dalot (whom the entire Caf wanted to get rid) is a good player. He is still young enough to improve so I'm hoping he really kicks on now.

Agree with most parts of this but not getting into a top 16 team is harsh  he’d easily get into a palace team or Everton, someone on that level. He ain’t a top 5 team player though. The quality just isn’t there compared to our rivals… we’ve got the worse midfield out of the top 6 teams.

I get he's nowhere near the standard to be starting every week for United, but this idea that people have that he wouldn't get in a PL midfield other than a Relegation team is a joke.

He plays regularly for most teams out of top 6

Any tactical reviews about our games yet?
Yes, unlike last season we actually looked like we had some today.

Amazing what a bit of coaching and a solid tactical plan can do for players who were written off here by many last season.

If McTominay played for one of our rivals domestically or in Europe, not a single person here would want us to sign him, nor would they rate him. I love seeing players come through the ranks, but there is no way that McTominay should have started anywhere near this many games for us and having him as a first choice midfielder is a large part of the reason that we are so poor.

For me McTom is a 'flash in the pan' player. By this I mean he has a load of below par games, then puts in a decent performance. I cant fathom what sort of midfield player hes supposed to be. He's like an apprentice jack of all trades, master of none. If we get another midfielder, he will be the one to miss out. If we play Bruno and Eriksen, McTom will be the one on the bench. Hes 25 1/2 and entering his supposedly best years. TH might get a regular tune out of him eventually, but I wont hold my breath.

Great post-match interview again. Once again reiterated that we "want to press all day" and admitted that he's looking to improve the timing of the pressing, which at times is not at the desired level.

This nonsense about McTominay being shite, useless and not good enough for any premier league team must stop. He’s not a key player at United and yes, defenitely shouldn’t be playing every game, but that’s not on him. He’s a good player with good engine and a bigger United heart than most of you McTom haters probably have. Thats no coincidence that he’s played roughly 200 games in his Man United career. A perfect squad rotation player to have but not a key player, I at least wouldn’t want to go into next season with out him

Word for word what people used to say about Lingard.

He doesn't even have a particularly noteworthy engine and doesn't play with a halfway respectable level of tenacity.

Watched todays game, the first game, and highlights of the second game.

We're obviously much better than last season, and you can see spells where ETHs philosophy is coming through...however we are still a long way off. It appears here and there, it is in no way consistent enough (will obviously take many more games for that). My concern right now is that we still lack any quality in the squad depth, a couple of injuries here and there and we're fecked, especially down the wings and upfront.

Stand out players are Sancho, Dalot, Martial and Iqbal.

Decent: DDG, Rashford, Bruno, Savage, Fred.

Played 3, won 3, scored 11, conceded 2. Solid start.

Lingard was a good squad player who scored in multiple cup finals. Again, not good enough to start every week. very few are.

He was a good squad player for about 1 season in his career, relative to where we were as a club at the time.

Keeping undertalented players like Lingard around for too long is a big part of the reason we've declined so much. Same will prove true for the likes of McTominay and Elanga.

Ole caretaker reign in that Matic/Herrera/Pogba combo they mentioned, he legit carried the team for about 4 months and arguably got Ole the job full time, was something like 7 goals and 9 assists in 11 games.

Course he was unfortunately shifted back to a midfield 2 in Ole's permanent role, would have loved to have seen what that 4-3-3 could have done it showed a lot of promise.

Depends on the Role they play surely? are Mctominay and Lingard any worse than John O'Shea and Quinton Fortune? or were they just asked to play every week because we're a much worse side?

Quite a number around here who are obsessed with this nonsensical idea that all the top teams must have Pirlos in goal. Even though none of them do.

Every top keeper in Europe boots the ball like De Gea did there in that moment, nothing was on and no one was open. You dont even have to hear him scream Charlie to know ETH was obviously not angry with De Gea there.
This may surprise you but at some point EtH is going to upgrade on DDG for a better ball playing goalkeeper. His style of football requires a keeper who can play, of that there can be no doubt.

What i don't understand with De Gea is how he's regressed in that regard, when he first came his distribution was actually very good.

He's not as bad as he's made out to be but he should be better now than he was and he 100% isnt.

I still cant post media, but if i could this would be my answer to your question

Low quality post i get it but still, old Jose would go mental if De Gea tried to pass it around. Another example of how bad coaching leads to one-dimensional playmaking.
