Fantastic game for him. Absolutely baffling to me why he is the Caf's #1 scapegoat all season. Yes, he can be frustrating sometimes but bar from a few performances at the start of the season he was one of our best players in most of our games this season. You can see what he brings to the team even if things don't go his way a lot of the time. I get that people don't like the arrogant "Neymar" personality but Antony is anything but that type of player. even when his overall performance is not the best he always works hard, retains the ball very well, defends well, and progresses our play consistently. With a little bit more luck a few of his 20 attempts this season that hit the post or needed a keeper worldly would have gotten in and he would have had 15 goals to his name and would be considered one of the signings of the season. Needs to work on his right foot, decision-making, and finishing and if he sorts these out we will have some player on our hands.

There's probably nothing to it but now that I think of it, I can't recall Maguire joking or having any real chemistry with anyone in the squad. He seems so insecure with a serious inferiority complex so it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't have any friends in the squad.

Great game by Antony today. I've been on his back a lot but he's looked better recently, and today was easily his best United performance.
Have been thinking the same thing. He just seems to be a heavily unlikable character and I have a hard time seeing the rest of the players embracing him as their captain..

But yes, Antony was great today. A couple of good performances like these could give him a nice platform to stand on coming into next season.

The guy is really bedding in now. I said it before, he's going to be fire next season. Is certainly shutting the haters up at the moment.

Delighted with his progression. He's been on it the last few games and today was the best so far. Great game and with Rashford out, Sancho still out of form he's been a ray of light for us.

Looked a proper player in that second half. Didn’t do obvious things and that seemed to confuse the Forest defence.

Didn't catch the match on Thursday but, thought he did well to build on last weekend's performance. He actually went on the outside and even baited defender to show he was going to go inside like he normally does but, couldn't quite go past on the outside.

Needs to continue playing with that fire but, stay on the right side of the line, think on Thursday ETH eluded to fact he was getting in situations he didn't really need to, seems to take unnecessary swipes at opposition.

Outstanding. Easy MOTM.
Think Neville was under pressure to give it to Fernandez due to the stick he had give him all week. Anyone else picking Man of the Match today and it would have been Antony for his goal and assist.

Think it's one of the rare times, he's completed the full 90 mins since the world cup/injury? He finished the game quite strongly.

ETH has been managing him very carefully, so hopefully he can have the energy for the run in to this season as we'll bloody need it.

His best half for us. First half erratic.

A perfect game for him. Forest were v v poor.

Interesting that his two best performances are away at Forest.

Better, but still a way to go. A long way imo.

Bruno was clearly the best player on the pitch today.

He’s been brilliant recently. Arguably his 3 best games for us in the last 3 against Forest, Sevilla and Everton.

I know we’ve finally seen him go on the outside and even use his right foot but I honestly can’t remember him ever having a shot at the near post (a bit like Greenwoodesque). I’m sure he would catch a lot of keepers off guard by drilling one near post by lacing it rather than a far post corner.

Anyway, I think he’s going to develop into a great player for us. You can see he’s always had the technical ability that can be developed.

It’s times like these that I’m tempted to go back a few months and quote some posts I made about being too quick to judge him. Posts saying the talent was there and he needed to be given time. But let’s be honest, that’s a waste of time because the same people who are waxing lyrical today are the same that were berating him until recently, and they’re the same who will be back to writing him off the next weekend or the first time he plays badly again.

Lots of us said he showed good signs, was important to the team, he was young, in a new country. Needed time to develop, grow, settle. But we were told he was shit and would never be good enough. The Caf is just too knee jerk.

Bruno was comfortably the best player on the pitch, so no they wouldn't.

Antony was really good though.

Antony was excellent today but Bruno was best player on the pitch.

not sure about that. Bruno is comfortably winning MotM vote here on the caf. Bruno was superb.

Antony was very good too, mind. He’s in great form. Long May it continue.

The cut inside and through ball is something he does quite well, I think he had a similar assist for Casemiro in an FA cup game, and he put Bruno into a dangerous position early on with a similar pass. Shame he doesn't have similar creativity from his crosses which are usually poor.

I'd be tempted to ban him from cutting inside and shooting towards the far corner more than once per game, I don't think it's anywhere near worth it to have 1 in 30 attempts fly in the top corner when he could just pass the ball instead. Majority of them go wide, high, or very tame shots that are comfortable for the keeper.

He went down the outside and used his right foot today and it almost got us a goal, Navas pushed it out but we missed the rebound. No idea why he can't do that more often.

Starting to look like a proper player. The potential is there, his low centre of gravity is superb.
This is one of his key strengths. Especially when it comes to cutting inside. Everyone knows what he wants to do but it’s hard to stop when he’s nimble and can shift it quickly. It’s one of the reasons he’s so good at keeping posession in tight situations.

Excellent performance today. I really like how involved Antony is even in his weaker performances.

Weve lost a lot of balance when he doesnt play, or we seem to sometimes lose our way in attack when hes subbed off. Today was his best performance easily. And he still had a few things he can do better (like when he should have cut back to Eriksen a few times). Once he irons that out, we will have a tremendous player on our hand.
Also one other note, said it before, but when he cuts in to shoot, a few times he should aim for the near post. Ive seen a few keepers (navas and pickford) make the step across to the far post a second before a shot is released.

Was nice to see him get an assist with a nice pass, and also use his right foot a few times too.

Fantastic from Antony. We are much better when he is playing and his work rate is excellent.
Very mature performance from him today.

Interesting hearing ETH’s comments regarding Antony after the match. Talking about the fact he knows he needs to go on the outside more but he’s also very difficult to defend against when he comes inside. Compared him to Robben in that he was a one trick pony too but very hard to stop.

Antony: Is Manchester United forward starting to live up to £81m price tag?

The Manchester United winger scored one and assisted another as his side moved up to third in the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Antony joined United for an initial fee of 95m euros (£81.3m) in August, making him the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.

So far, the Brazilian has scored eight goals and registered two assists in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils this season.

He’s had some frustrating performances during his short time here but one thing you can’t knock him for is his lack of effort. Even in the games where he’s not playing well he’s not invisible and still tries to get on the ball.

Fantastic performance from him today, I hope he can continue to improve and display more creativity like he showed Today and we’ll have some player on our hands.

Probably deserved motm solely for the fact that for once he actually used his right foot in the game

Used his right foot two times today, hopefully we’ll see more of that now.
And used it well, which makes it even more confusing he is so determined to only use his left 99/100.

If he even threatens the right, it buys more time to use his left, which is something he'll hopefully come to understand in time.

Antony comes from that school of tenacity you hope to see in every player at your club. He doesn't hide, doesn't stop trying and he refuses to let the bad affect his game - where some let their head drop or are guided by how well they're doing, he's defiant and resolute. It stands him in the best stead in his future endeavours and development and almost assures we'll get to see what his best can go on to become.

He's learning and growing - showing his right foot is actually both functional and useful could be the start of something special in its own right as it opens up the field and possibilities on the pitch so much more for him and will make him a lot more unpredictable, which translates to more of a handful to deal with. Following in on potential spillages, too. A seemingly small thing, but one that can easily bag him numerous goals over a campaign.

His passing and crossing needs work, but he's showing a wider array of selections, which, once the opposition become conditioned to be wary of, will buy him more time to execute other passes and crosses. It should lead to improvements in completions because closing off passing lanes - or even shaping to - becomes that much more difficult. A top class attacking fullback down his flank will really make a difference, too.

He's received a lot of criticism in this thread, but it seems we're seeing a truer representation of what he's about now, which should force reassessment. He looks more settled and familiar with the league, and more particularly the pace and aggression of it, which doesn't seem to be catching him out anymore. So this is more the settled player who can now start to branch out and express himself, which might be why he's suddenly decided to show his - surprisingly competent - right foot, as well as the ability to play reverse through balls(?).

But over anything, that tenacity and determination is what enthuses as he won't stop trying to improve and affect games, which in itself will force him to develop. That's what bodes so well for him, and by proxy, us.

I don’t like his reaction towards Maguire, it does not seem respectful. Team spirit gents!
Fantastic assist btw!

edit: the reaction could be an inside joke of course
