If one looks at the mess there is at NICE now one would realise that we should stay away from incompetent people running football clubs !

Article here:

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...latest-takeover-qatar-ratcliffe-b2344369.html

"It is expected that if Qatar was to be the preferred bidder, there would be fierce opposition from at least 17 clubs."

They've had plenty of time to get their shit together after the Saudi takeover and haven't put much in place. Not a chance there'd be as much opposition if this was someone like say Palace being takenover.

That said the above article from Delaney so most likely bollox

His age isn’t an issue really, they’ll be a succession plan you would imagine, but it’s a small concern as to who will take over and how much interest they have in keeping Manchester United at the top. They might even sell should he pop his clogs, which would probably put us in the hands of a Middle Eastern state anyway, but INEOS would be a billion or so richer.
Well that didn't happen when grandpa Glazer got dragged to money heaven. Who knows.

Anyone else that has a problem with Jim's age? How long could he be bothered?
I'm trying to convince myself that his age will make him focused on success and building a legacy more than making money. Would be weird for someone like him who loves football to use whatever time he has left to just make more money.

People as rich as Sir Jim don't really get sick or die, they can afford endless blood transfusions, black market organ transplants and the latest in artificial medical implants. If anything he'll start to look younger and healthier as time passes, and twenty years from now he'll be on the pitch himself as our starting striker, with the body of a twenty year old and a brain supported by the latest generation of quantum computers.

People accuse Qatar of "Sports Washing" like it's fact and not just their opinion. They are not "washing" anything, they are expanding their global brand in the hopes of bringing in more business, tourism etc.

People should worry more about their Adidas kit made in Asian sweat shops or their iPhone made in Chinese factories where suicide nets are installed to stop over worked staff ending their lives before pointing the finger at working standards in Qatar. The country has even launched recent initiatives to improve welfare standards and unfair working conditions. That's a lot more than some of the so called acceptable owners would do at their international factories.

In regards to LGBT rights, what gives us the right to dictate what is acceptable in another country when we ourselves are having huge issues with trans athletes in women's sports after years of being told they are women and no one can question this? Do we just make the rules up as we go and everyone else is expected to keep changing their believes to suit us? Nobody is forcing anyone to go and live in Qatar.

The Qataris have been very respectful of the rules and beliefs of the countries they have investments in. PSG recently took part in an LGBT initiative with their kits displaying rainbow digits.

If anyone is intolerant, I'd argue it's the people who have tarnished the Qataris names without even thinking this through.

Why? History shows that to turn a mid tier French club into the dominant force takes billions, a high degree of cheating and even then, you'll only be relevant in France anyway

It's a weak argument from those who only have weak arguments.
Come on, I get that you don't want Qatari ownership but this is as close to empiric evidence as you can get. But nice attempt at a suppression techinique. I also don't want state-ownership but the other option with Sir Jim looks so extremely depressing (the David Moyes of owners) to the point that I'd rather let the leeches stay on for a year and hope for new bidders to emerge. You are also twisting the argument here - no one saying the would expect Nice to be a dominant force on a continental scale, but they are the point that at best can be described as status quo while their fans only see regression and broken promises. Unfortunately for us, we require more than that.

The death penalty for homosexual sex is the more intolerant and suggesting otherwise is indefensible bigotry that stains this forum.

Simply having money doesn't equal success. There's a whole lot of football and other factors that come into play. You can minimise the effect of those factors by spending a lot, but has he done that? He himself said that buying Nice was a bit of an experiment into how to make a football club financially self sufficient and build it to something bigger. I don't think it was ever a project for him to pump millions/billions into and we don't know how far along in their overall plan that they are.

Even so, it's disingenuous to compare Nice to us. You seem to have forgotten yourself that this campaign you also mention has continuously claimed that, as a club, we could compete off our own wealth if we weren't hamstrung by debt. So I'm terms of giving us what we wanted, he'd simply have to remove the debt as a liability of the club, which it seems he will, and maintain the status quo. If he can improve it in any way, and we all know there are ways to improve that even an idiot can see, then great.
A lot of factors, such as hiring the right people. All of which Ineos has failed at with Nice.
He promised the fans a lot more than being a experiment, and like I said he has failed at hiring the right people etc. The failing of Nice isnt down to lack of spending but sheer incompetence which is far more scary.
I have yet to see any promise of clearing the debt. Maybe we know the ways to improve the club but based on Nice Ineos and Ratcliffe clearly dont.

Honestly, so what? It's impossible to get it right all the time. They've made some moves that look good on paper which didn't work out, and have tried something else instead. Nobody gets every call right, but as long as you can recognise when you are wrong and just make a change, that's fine.

And I remember his interview where he said it was a bit of a trial run at owning a football club and learning about that sort of business. If you think Ratcliffe isn't aware of the issues, especially being in close contact with fans groups, then you're bonkers. He's already intimated he does by saying he wants to take control of transfers. He's gone on record actually talking about our issues.

You have clearly made your mind up but you're just playing yourself with opinions like that, which are quite clearly false.

Our decline started long before SAF left. Ronaldo's money wasn't invested, players grew old and yet we kept squeezing every inch of juice left etc. As Scholes once said, there's something wrong in the club when your best CMs are at the wrong end of their 30s
That’s true. Their takeover restricted spending until about 2013. But if SAF had stayed an extra 2-4 years and been the manager spending £100m plus a summer, would we have declined?

The issue with the glazers is financial. From the debt initially restricting transfer spend, to billions lost over the long term that could have gone towards stadium etc.

What is Jassim an expert in? Showing your ass here.
As said I prefer the unknown who is seriously willing to invest into the club then the proven failure who will bring in more debt and will keep the Glazers in

Yes what happens when he dies? INEOS will want to start seeing dividend to pay the big debt.

Well they should at least get some right no? Its so bad that the fans are protesting. Sound familiar??

Yeah he said now. How do you think the NIce fans feel about this after how he talked when he bought Nice. What fan groups? He sure as shite isnt close to the Nice fans I can tell you that.

The fact that he wants to take control of transfers is terrible. Look at Chelsea.

You are trying to find excuses for a billionaire who has failed at the other clubs and was clearly full of bs in the interviews he gave when he first bought Nice. And I am the one playing myself?

1) Nice and Lussane… when do you actually look at someone’s cv?

2) not sure if I’ve understood. But he’s said he Wants to take control of transfers ?

3) I know your post isn’t to me. But the people who already made up their minds are the pro Ratcliffe. Because no matter what he does, or what comes out, the answer is “so what if he butchered basic toe surgery and killed his patient, it was just practice for brain surgery”

I disagree. United's issue was stagnation and it started long before the Glazers bought us. One can say that its the reason why the Glazers were able to buy us in the first place. Take for example sponsors. Did we need Woodward to really tap into that market? Wasn't Gill able to do so himself? That would have increased the value of the club making it difficult if not impossible for the Glazers to engage in a hostile takeover. Then there was other development that was happening in football that we refuse to engage in like Director of football and data analysts. Sure SAF could paper the cracks but the man was ancient. It was a matter of when the guy retires not if. Meanwhile the youth academy wasn't producing the goods as it used to do, we became less effective in signing rough diamonds opting instead on proven EPL players instead despite knowing that they weren't any where near to the players they were replacing, we became sentimental in terms of decision making and it was clear that our fitness regime wasn't among the best

Rome isn't built in one day but it didn't fell in one day either. We started 2013-2014 season with a new CEO, a new manager (who was the shittiest one could find btw), an ageing squad, no DOF and Fellaini as our only summer signing. Meanwhile we had Thiago Alcantara wrapped up but no one bothered to tell the new manager to have a look at him and give his go ahead which meant that he would veto the deal and months of work tied with it. That clusferfeck didn't come out by accident. It was a result of shit planning and standards which were allowed to slip.

Well done putting 2+2 together and getting 5. I’m not claiming they’re working miracles, but there’s no doubt that Nice are not a top club in France. European football 50% of the time is a massive improvement for them.

I would assume they can’t (FFP) and don’t want to (lack of return financially and sporting merit) just pump billions in like Qatar did to PSG. Nice are never going to be as valuable as a one club capital city like Paris and they can’t follow that model now anyway.
Just looking at their league positions, there is no improvement infact they have been worse since the takeover.

If you are arguing that not even a single bit of improvement should be expected because they are never going to compete with PSG then what makes you believe the same wont happen with Utd? There are a couple clubs here with bottomless pits of cash.

They have mismanaged 2 clubs and are enroute doing the same to their third but hey, lets believe that everything should work out just as fine.

I didn't think it was possible but we've finally created a thread that surpasses the Messi-Ronaldo clusterfeck in terms of endless, repetitive circular arguments covering the same points again and again and again and again. Well done all. You're playing a blinder.
This is hands down the most boring thread ever, one I stupidly keep coming back to in vain waiting for some developments. But it's just people posting tweets from total randoms with zero veracity.

It’s like the most stupidly long transfer thread ever with all the wit and humour sucked out of it. And yeah, I keep coming back to it as well. Regret it every single time.

I think if there is an actual development, it will go in the other thread. This thread is for arguing about colonialism, Lausanne, debt, Brexit and any other painfully dull topic you could name. Maybe start an argument about the different types of concrete and see if it gets going? Would liven the place up.

What is he? 71? That's hardly ancient these days so I don't have a problem with it.
I do wonder though that as he gets older if something did happen to him then who owns us? I know people will say 'Ineos' but who's going to take over? Will it be his kids?
If he wins the bid then we could see history repeat itself like the Glazers if he popped his cloggs, with his 3 kids all squabbling over shares and running United.

I’ve had this discussion to death with people. They finished 3rd and 4th around 3/4 years before the takeover. These were outliers compared to all other seasons. Unless you’re able to discuss all the different factors, like how other teams in the league were playing those seasons etc. it’s too simplistic to just say oh well Jim has made them worse.

If you go back to the two seasons before finishing 3rd and 4th, they were 11th and 17th.

I don’t know what will happen with United, but trying to get Nice to compete is not the same as getting a club like United to compete. Unless you’re wanting United to break rules and inflate income, we can’t have billions injected in to spend on transfers anyway.

100% correct post. I just moved back from Qatar and they have plenty of companies / state programs looking at ESG improvements. Some in the west have a borderline xenophobic slant. Rich coming from countries on arm sales, historic slavery or actions on the Gulf war. The Human Rights here far better than China, Russia and Israel.

Do either of Jim or Jassim have feckwit spawn that could potentially inherit the club in the future?
My research suggests Jim has a frankly pathetic 3 children and they've not done anything mad enough yet to merit a wikipedia article.

Jassim apparently has 8, so far, and you'd surely back him to add to that. Again no info on them but with these kinda numbers there's gotta be a real freak or two for us in there.

Were Man City a top European club? PSG? Were Chelsea winning the league before Roman came? Were Newcastle more likely to get relegated or get CL football in 23/24 if you asked anyone 2 years ago?

If Jim can’t improve Nice in what’s a relatively low spend league, then what hope does he have in the prem? Also if you do your research many in France viewed Nice as a very well run club.
