That is why I was not enthusiastic about the news. The day RATcliffe made the parasites partners I knew this story is over, we will swim in mediocrity for eternity.

It’s going to absolute madness when the announcement get announced. The real one that is.
There were people in this thread actually discussing a possible Mbappe to United transfer last night - literally walking parodies of the Qatar bid supporters. All it took was a fake rumour started by a Twitter account in Cardiff with 250 followers. As you say, the actual announcement day will probably be a good day to avoid the caf, whichever way it goes.

This thread is like a RAWK meltdown x 10. Once everything comes crashing down, people get build up again only to get ran over by a car for the tenth time.

People keep confusing the cause and effect with respect to the stock price and news/developments taking place. Please listen to me!

Separately, it is pretty amusing seeing the Rat Pack taking a victory lap. They seem more concerned with dunking on the "Qatar In" fans above all else.

Share price has been pushing towards $23 in the last hour after nearly hitting $22 so maybe the market still has some confidence.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Fully respect that line.

Personally, don't have the time and will to commit myself to question that line.
I have zero knowledge about the Qataris and the human rights violations, nor do i wish to inspect it thoroughly.

You could label it whataboutism, or sticking ones head in the sand, but i simply choose to live without that knowledge.

Redcafe is probably the biggest online place that opens my views on different topics.
Whenever i'm in doubt about something i choose the CAF as a reference point.
There is a huge amount of knowledgable posters about vastly different topics, and i feel the quality of serious posts is remarkable.

I never really related the romance behind the club with the owners.

I don't know who the owners were at the time of the Munich disaster. I didn't know who the owners were in the 90's when i started rooting for the club....
Didn't know about the owners right about the time when the Glazers took over.

I don't even know anything about the Glazers, outside of the knowledgable posts about their wrongdoings while at the helm of the club in the last decade.

Even now, i have zero knowledge about Sir Jim or Jassim.
Couldn't care less.
They might buy the club and call themselves "owners", but i certainly won't associate the club with them.

Manchester United is way beyond that.
That's my line in the sand.
Good post.

What I will say is that we've never really had to associate the owners with the club, until the Glazers really. This is because the club was self sustaining, built on the hard work of people and the fanatical support of us. Anybody associated with the club was just there in name. The issue for me is that, along with the obvious ethical issues, Qatar will probably very much start injecting their own money into the club and that will dilute everything that made us what we are. There will be no way to get away from it.

I'm of the opinion that we don't need to sacrifice our history or our values for money, we just need somebody to stay in the background, not siphon money and put a good business structure in place so we can go on as we are. We can afford to pay our own way and compete - we've just made an absolute hash of it for 13 years or so and have pissed a significant amount of our own money up the wall. With regards to a stadium, infastructure etc, other clubs have done it without significant investment from their owners. We don't need to go cap in hand to anybody.

I'm in the same boat. An acquisition by Qatar (as would any other nation-state) will change the meaning of the club for me, and a big part of the romance will be gone. That's why it's not even exactly some sort of challenge if I can stop following the club or not, I just will naturally. I'm really sad about the prospect, but it is a bit like realizing that you have to end a relationship because something significant about your partner has changed.
romance? 18 years with the Glazer family taking over a billion dollars out of the club and letting all the facilities rot...romance?

I think he's living in an emotional dreamland myself. There's nothing 'top' about him at all.

He's basically saying if you support Qatar it's all about the money and fancy new toys, but if you're against Qatar it means you have morals and more of an emotional attachment, than those who support Qatar who "just don't get it".

Not only is he being patronising he's also completely wrong.

What's his alternative then? Because you often find with these self obsessed, taking-the-moral-high-ground ego warriors, that they never have a back up plan.
So what's the back-up plan for Manchester United if we don't get Qatar because of morals?
Do we go for a buyer who's "really really nice" and never hurts a fly, while living in an eco-friendly house made of sugar-free candy and completely carbon neutral....yipppeee!!! Let's hope they buy us and keep us morally beautiful even if we are languishing in mid-table every season, with no hope in hell of winning anything or playing CL football.

But hey, that's perfectly OK, because the owner can make some superb veggie muffins from their own organically grown garden for the players at half time.

We're Manchester United, the club with morals. Oh the joy!!!

It has started rising on opening
Presumably because people with no access to the pre/after markets have been fomoing. Still predicting it to settle down to 20-21 today if no new news drops.

Shameless stuff. I was shot down for saying this is why many pro Qatar posters want him to buy us, claiming I was wrong. Then within minutes of the bogus Jassim win, the Mbappe thread is bumped.

Given there is no evidence of it being a state bid, would that be self-induced turmoil?
I think you may have missed the point of my post. I was commenting on how it isn't just as easy as 'supporting another club' if you dislike who owns us, regardless of who it is.

Reminiscent of the imposters and the Herrera thing in 2013,least we all know now not to trust most Qatari sources. Most reliable looks to be that Fahed Alemadi guy who provided some clarification on the situation which helped

FFS the sale goes from bad to worse, we are the laughting stock of the footballing world.
Don’t worry, nobody will be laughing at us when we sell to a state owned sports washing regime responsible for thousands of migrant deaths and human rights abuses. They won’t be able to, out of fear. All hail the regime!

Wholeheartedly agree.

Only problem is, we don't have that option.

There's 3 offers on the table.

1. Glazers stay
2. A british Sir
3. A qatari overlord

Choose one of the three.
As far as i'm concerned, i don't mind either of the three simply because i don't care about the ownership side of the club.
Could be Osama Bin Laden for all i care.

I do however love reading the well informed posters on the caf.

So far, it's between 2 and 3 with both sides having some moral dilemmas.

We laugh at PSG and city all the time. Though I wouldn't laugh at Chelsea, them Americans are quick to pull a trigger. Also, don't reply to this from an iPhone, we don't want to be supporting child labor now.

I'm sorry, its just funny that human rights violations are now an exclusively Qatari thing. Do we know anything about Ineos's set of morals?

This thread moves from: gloating from Pro qatari --> virtue signaling --> rumors squashed --> gloating from SJR fans.

(I may have missed some steps)

All due to fecking glaziers.

Honestly, yes. I'd prefer for us to be owned by the Glazers than Qatar. I'd prefer for us to tumble down the divisions than be owned by a human rights abusing state.

I love this club a lot more than I love "winning". How do you think people support the majority of clubs throughout the world that never win anything?
