Seems like he can't get a break and be the hero for once. Everytime I think he will be our matchwinner, we manage to mess it up.

Must be playing on losing sides in training too. Only way to explain why other players don't want to feed him chances to score, despite he's quite good for his age.

Bless him. 5 goals in 4 games in the CL and not a single point to show for it. Ridiculous really.

Ten hag has obviously told him to work as hard in pressing as he possibly can, meaning he is gassed before the 90 minuttes.

Had he played as most other strikers do (aka not very aggressive pressing throughout the match), he would have no issues doing 90 min.

I personally agree with the strategy of him burning all his energy in aggressive pressing for 70 minuttes, then subbing him for fresh legs.
If he keeps on playing like that, he will be gassed before he turns 30. Not everyone can be a Wayne Rooney. Why should he?

He gets service and he scores, he's proven it in the Champions League. About the only positive of this season so far.

This. He does the runs over and over again, and when our players finally sees him he'll score more. Good and hardworking guy.

He is raw, but has everything to be an absolute monster of a forward in the long term. It's depressing that he's in a team in the state of ours.

Hopefully it will come good because he's an absolute gem.

He’s better with space that’s for sure. But who isn’t. Hopefully he’ll keep up his drive and hunger to develop instead of diving into the depressing hole many players have gone into when results are going against us.

When we do feed him chances, he scores however.

He can’t catch a break. Criminal that his goals go unrewarded due to our collapse at the back.

The sad thing is he's actually promising, but there's not a hope in hell we know how to develop him.

Have to feel for him a bit. No service in the Prem and in the CL every goal he scored ended up being pointless as we fecked the game one way or another

Yeah, it has to be a bit discouraging to score 2 goals twice and not get a draw let alone a win. And the goals are not coming late when we are way behind. He's scoring early to give us leads and we can't hold them.

Subbed cos he was gassed but funny thing is he probably scores at the end if he's on the pitch (rebound chance)

I feel sorry for him. Should have been the hero tonight but others let him down.

One of the very few bright spots of our season so far. Got a bit of decent service tonight for a change (in the first half at least).

Indeed. That was his territory.

This goes back to something that I replied to earlier, and I think there is a dilemma. Do we want him to play like Wayne Rooney (spending his energy so much at pressing hard that he's out of it by 70-75 minutes) or do we want to see him eventually grow into someone like Harry Kane or Robert Lewandowski (who know how and when to preserve energy in order to last the full 90 minutes)? I know Hojlund works really hard, but this is where someone somewhere must find a way to teach him how to preserve energy in order to last the full 90.

He probably can last the 90 if he didn’t have to press so hard alone for the most part in the first 60.

More than the goals, I like how he shields the ball. Of course his passing has a lot of room for improvement still but he has all the tools to be a great striker, just not at our broken club

I feel sorry for this lad. He deserves to play in a proper club under a proper manager. He will be buried in this graveyard alongside all the rest.

Credit where it's due to the club and our scouts for identifying him as the better option opposed to Ramos, Kolo Muani and other alternatives that would cost the same or more than Hojlund did.

But Hojlund has not shown himself to be a very good poacher as well. He is like groomed to be a complete striker but is not an excellent poacher or target man as of now.
You sure about that? Every one of his goals so far, except the solo run vs Galatasaray (great finishing but not a typical "poacher" goal) were the result of great positioning and finishing...even the 2 disallowed ones vs Brighton and Galatasaray.

A player with enormous potential, held back by a hilariously bad team around him. If things don't improve he'll need to move on to progress. He'll not reach his potential working with this lot.

He's been very good throughout the season. I know some people only pay attention to goals and assists but his all round performances in open play have been very good. One of the posters above mentioned Hojlund scoring 10 + goals if he was at Arsenal in the current season, and I agree. If Hojlund was at Arsenal he would've scored a number of goals without a doubt.
Some people just can't use their brain and don't know anything about football either on top of that.

When the team is in a really bad period like this, even the good performers get criticized for the stupidest reasons.

For every player, the environment they play in is probably the most important thing, even more so for a striker that heavily relies on service.

If he went to City or Arsenal and played as many minutes as he did for us, he would be on double digits already and would be likened to Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez or other "hidden gems" we "never identified and let go to rivals".

Think that with somebody that runs that much, with high intensity, the club needs to understand that he must have a reliable backup as Rasmus is often gassed after 60/65 mins and then is a deadwood for the rest of the game.

We have 5 changes, we should use this

The movement for the first goal was class. Tricked the defenders very well. Probably a pretty common piece of striker movement, but haven't been used that in years.

I cannot fathom these posts. He's just signed for UTD FFS.
