On hindsight we should have bought him for free after running out his contract with Chelsea, if we were to buy him at all. Its not like he has been playing many(any?) games for us this season anyway.

No. His tweet is a pathetic attempt to curry favour with the fans after contributing absolutely nothing since signing for the club.
Yeah - should just shut up, stop supporting his teammates and stop being injured.

So we're holding Mount responsible for fan accounts now?

I think on paper Mount ticked every box for both the manager and the board.
English
Experienced (International, Premier League, CL)
Good Looking/Marketable
Manager admired him
Last year on his contract
Good age

But ever since he arrived it's been a total fail! Hopefully at some stage he can start to revive his career a little on the pitch.

Oh ffs. He's hardly got a game yet. I'll wait till he's played a bit.
As should everyone, but that is not the Caf's way, the Caf's way is the one of constant moaning before he even played half a season worth of games!

If these five are indeed our boxes to tick for the recruitment team, we are well and truly fecked - but it sounds about right. Three of them have nothing to do with football, one is very subjective and being experienced can be said about a thousand of footballers.

I was leery on this transfer because of the reported wages he was being offered. Means there's not way out if it all goes tits up. Another Sancho, Martial, De Gea etc situation. I'd put Antony on there as well.

If INEOS is taking over, I hope they are smart enough to consider changing our wage structure. Performance based.

I just looked at his stats, apart from one good season they are really underwhelming. More than ever I am left wondering what exactly he is for....

Christ we love to waste transfer funds. Not to mention we could have just waited a year and signed him on a free rather than spend £60M on a very injury prone player with a year left on his contract.

He definitely isn't a flop simply because its been less than half a season and he's been injured for most of it so we haven't really been able to see what he can do.

The signing for me on paper, whilst not ideal, had some sense behind it. A player who is good technically in tight spaces, can press, can score, is pretty intelligent in his positioning on and off the ball who can play as a 10 but might be able to transition into an 8, and is also English. I get the thinking behind signing him.

I also think for the money paid for him maybe we could have gotten a player who already played in the no 8 role or who could play in tandem with Casemiro. A true centre mid rather than a CAM to try and mould into one. However, the thought behind the signing is not that crazy.

Can you actually imagine?! "Ok, time to discuss our key targets for the summer. Any decent looking English lads in the last year of their contracts......? Class....? Anyone......? " "Well no, but listen to this, I know a left footed player heh - wait for it - from Brazil!! - they want 40, I think if we offer 80 we'll get him"....."Erik, this is why you're here..! Pass me the phone Janice. "

Ticked boxes that have nothing to do with football.

Same here. Knives out too early. He’s had no continuity and has entered a chaotic team. It takes time to build form and confidence.

A little concerned about his physical presence however. Next signing better be a Fabinho/Guimaraes type of player.

True but he can be judged for not playing games. Because he’s forever injured. That could be a reason a lot of people didn’t want us to to sign him aswell. Another wasted player we can’t use… just adds to our injury list.

Why are people criticising him when he's not playing? Some absolute weirdos on this forum
Very valid to question a transfer who’s missed half the season and offered nothing when he has played, nothing weird about it. Referring to everything as weird is incredibly childish.

And how is it his fault that he missed half the season? Are you going to blame injuries and a clueless manager on the player? Yeah, that is weird. It is also weird because this is a player performance thread, and you're criticising him when he is not playing. How many times are you guys going to repeat yourself, despite him not playing?

Also, he has offered something. He has offered link-up play in midfield that none of our midfielders seem to be able to do, quick one-twos and decent on the half turn that opens up a lot of space for us to attack. Unfortunately, our attackers are dogshit so they've not been able to do anything with it. Furthermore, he's being used completely wrong so I have no idea how you seriously put that blame on the player. Would you put Højlund as a left winger and expect him to offer a lot?

I have no idea why some people are intent on hating on Mount, as if he did something bad to them personally. It took him some time to settle, but I think he already showed flashes of what he can offer this team: receiving the ball on the turn, playing immediate cutting forward passes, covering a ton of ground, shooting from distance, corner kicks, and so on.

He's barely featured. 12 appearances total, 8 in the league for 400 minutes (so about half of each of those 8 games), 2 in the CL for a combined 91 minutes, and 2 in the EFL Cup for 135 combined minutes. He's played 626 minutes out of a possible 1080.

He wasn't an exciting signing because he has already played in the league and they've seen him for England and Chelsea, so they want to be right on the transfer from the beginning to feel like actual scouts. That's why they hope he plays like shit each game, and jerk each other off in celebration when he doesn't score or assist. They'd rather sign Molombu N'drogbo from Sochaux in Ligue 2 and suggest he would transform the way we play, because he is unknown. It is what it is. Fans are fecking stupid.

The main reason he gets so much hate is the fact he was our priority signing. It took ages to negotiate with Chelsea and we ended up massively overpaying for a player who had 1 year left on his contract. We missed out on several other chances (notably Kim). And now he turned out to be not only injury prone, but also somehow unable to fit in as a CM, which had been obvious for many here. We could have used his money to sign better players, that's it.

It was reminiscent our pathetic chase of FDJ, who was never coming. He's an solid Premier league player and thats is. One purple patch season. Just cannot see how he improves us. Maddison was a steal and a great upgrade for aging Eriksen. We also needed a decent DM, certainly not Amrabat. ETH is a shocking judge of players and why I am sure he will be gone once Ineos in control

That's an interesting argument. So the opinions of people that have seen him play for England and Chelsea for a number of years are discounting him not on how he has performed or on his output for both of those teams, but on the fact that he isn't a sexy foreign signing? Isn't it possible that some people didn't particularly rate him before we were even linked to him, and his struggles to fit in since joining has compounded their skepticism? As the ancient proverb goes, it ain't that deep.

I've posted before, several friends with Chelsea season tickets. Consensus was great money for them, Mount had been 'found out' and not a loss.

I feel this hate towards him is rather strange. Sure he's been poor, but sometimes alright to decent while not playing more a than a few games in a row.
He's also been misused by a clueless manager who now figured out that actually McTominay performs this second striker role better than anyone else.
Mount is far far from being a flop. Huge question marks over his fitness but that seems to be the case for everyone bar Bruno at the moment.
