Not good enough, cheap punt didn't worked out let's move him on. He doesn't have the quality it's not that's he's raw and needs to improve it's the talent simply isn't there.
I love to give young players a chance, but I agree - haven't seen anything from him that I'd want to hang on for.

Give him 'til the summer (because we're short of options, and funds for a replacement) and try for a Dan James-like profit if he shows nothing.

A good player would've buried and made the most of the opportunities he had last night.

I never got the hype with him. I mean I like the energy he brings when he comes off the bench but his decision making and final ball isnt good enough yet.

For an attacker he hasn't been much of a goal threat either.

They’re all the same assumption. Rashford and Antony have shown they can play well enough to start, but they haven’t done it in a while. Pellistri hasn’t. If he had, they wouldn’t get the chance to play themselves into form. Their respective values align with that.
That's a fallacy. Why play young players at all? Why isn't Eriksen or any 35 year old a guarantee starter?

I don't agree that Antony has shown he can play well enough to start. If you play well one out of 10 times you haven't shown you can play. Antony can do the basics required of a winger well when the opposition has the ball but in possession he's more often than not shown himself to be a detriment.

Rashford is a contender for our worst player this season. He's still not been dropped, only demoted and it has immediately paid off with Garnacho. Now just imagine us playing a few games with neither and limit them to the bench. Maybe, just maybe, we'll see improvement in our football. At the very least it would not get worse because how could it? Literally not score any goals I guess?

Antony has done more than enough throughout his time at United to show that he deserves to start over a player like Pellistri. It doesn't mean he is the long term solution, it doesn't even mean that he would start in previous United teams, it doesn't even mean that he is good enough yo play for United but when the only other option on the right is Pellistri then he is an automatic starter. Maybe if Amad was fit and/or we had recruited another right winger then yeah he should be benched but as it stands benching him and playing Pellistri is doing more harm than good.

He has some good qualities, my guess is we'll end up selling him and he'll become a very decent player but not a star in 3-4 years when he's 25 and less physically weak and improves his shooting. If we'd had Almiron at 21 he would't have done much here either, and they have some similarities.

Since the world learned that he beats women he's done feck all. That alone should be enough to exclude him but his performances for the past year have been bad.

It doesn't matter that Pellistri will not be good enough. It matters that he's better than what we've currently got on show. Rashford actively hurts the kind of football we want to play and Antony's best performance in ages can be best summed up by it not being useless.

The chances Pellistri got. How many times have we seen Antony get those chances? People giving Pellistri shit for missing them. Antony's attacking contributions can be defined by shots that missed the target.

There is no hype. I bet most united fans don't really know why he's here. Maybe he didn't want to leave, maybe we didn't get an offer and decided to try for another year, I don't know. In normal circumstances he would've been 4th choice right winger, possibly 5 as Bruno plays there sometimes as well. This isn't really a problem.

Those young players at the very least provide some youthful energy, athletism, speed whatever. This imo is the role of Pellistri and Hannibal this season, I expect them to be gone soon though. Pellistri isn't even fast, tbh I'm surprised he made it to this level tbh. Maybe he was just happy as 4th/5th choice player and that's why he's here. But there was never any hype for him AFAIK.

I think he's shown in the handful of minutes this season that he's lively and can make things happen. I think he's earned a couple of starts on the right over Anthony or Rashford to be honest.

Hoping we see a front 4 of Hojlund, Garnacho, Bruno and Pellistri before long, with Casemiro and Mainoo behind them.

There is no way Pellistri is better than any of the options on the right, he is so clearly lacking in every department needed to even be a squad player. Antony, Bruno a grumpy Rashford are all better options than Pellistri.

Now that is not the same as saying that Antony is a good right winger, its more an indictment on Pellistri. I like the kid as a person but he is clearly not United player.

He’s just not good enough and will always be a back up , I think we’re better off letting him leave.

Big chance for him last night. A goal or an assist off any one of those chances would have been a massive boost to him. Instead, it feels like a backwards step.

This. He’s not a bad player, but he’s obviously not good enough for us and nothing indicates that he ever will be. Sell him while we can get a good fee.

Agreed. Amad's injury has given him time to force his way in. He hasn't. We only need one of the two. Sell and lets see what Amad can do with the cameos Pellistri's been getting.

Bit too much negativity for a 15min cameo out of position on the left

He makes things happen whenever he comes in and deserves more gametime IMO

Much too early to be writing him off. He works hard, he’s bright on the ball and he’s a game lad. He looks a little short in terms of physicality and he well have a ceiling in terms of ability but he deserves the chance to try to establish himself.

Yeah him playing on the left (first time for us?) Was an issue and meant he would come in rather than go outside moreso.

He's a good option and thought we should have tried him on the right and Antony on the left for some width and maybe some crosses/ getting to byline.

I do think he needed to score though as that would have seen him used more, which is a weird thing to say

People are being too harsh. Sure he has not been clinical, but I thought he did well when he came on from bench, making things happened. He is just 21 and would be a good bench option for us.

Not surprised in the least at the hue and cry over him not starting and then tearing him apart once he disappoints. I mean, it was inevitable really. There’s a reason he hasn’t gotten that many starts and its been clear when he plays let alone how obvious it must be on the training pitch - Pellistri is a player who is energetic and does some nice things in the buildup due to his good close control however he is nowhere near the desired level as an all round footballer. He freezes in the final third when he has to make an impact and that’s always been the case with him. And then there’s the lack of physicality - he’s not physical enough and hasn’t developed the upper body strength to make up for it.

He can be a useful player off the bench due to his energy and quick feet but right now it stops there. Let’s see how he develops his game further as it’s up to him now to prove he can make that jump.

You must think he's the worst player on the squad then because the worst player we've put on this pitch this season has been Rashford. Antony would not have given Livramento all this time and space uncontested. Neither would Pellistri. The only way Pellistri would be worse is is he crossed the ball into his own net.

I certainly do think that.

Needs consistency. Is dropped whenever he does anything good and mentally, it's like starting from scratch again. I think there is a player there, needs to improve upper body strength a bit and composure but ability and brain wise, I think he is good. In my opinion, he has done more than Rashford this season.

Don’t get the clamour for him to play, he’s woeful, and he’s obviously not good enough, just as Varela wasn’t.

I wouldn't say he's woeful, not up to the standard the club should be striving for, sure, but he's not a bad footballer.

People were calling for him to start because they were sick of Antony and Pellistri had a few decent performances against weaker opposition. The back ups are always popular when they are still unknown quantities and the starter is not cutting it.

He got given a shot because of the troubles on the right wing and whilst he plays with energy and is quick, he seems to lack the decision making needed. It didn't work, needs to be sold when the opportunity arises.

He is typically always looking to support and play others on, or mindful of his defensive responsibilities in the event of turnover ball, at the detriment of being better positioned and actively seeking goalscoring opportunities.

I've noticed over the last month or so both for us and Uruguay the intent to do more of the latter, which wouldn't be a bad thing in and of itself as he always lacked agression and goalscoring instincts in the final third. It's an area for improvement, absolutely, but such intent strikes me as borne in anxiety and unsurprisingly isn't translating to results. There is probably an element of what you are saying (frustration, every chance being make or break) in that.

Both that and the fact all young players spend tonnes of time on social media/websites like this one reading and being affected by what they read. Imagine reading this kneejerk threads after each and every performance...

I met the coach that just got Uruguay to win the U20 World Cup and he placed great emphasis on managing that. He had someone in his staff employed to track online activity linked to all players so that they could proactively address any potential effects. I know every team has psychologists, etc, but was surprised really at how listening to him it seemed to be 60% of his job rather than yapping about tactics, following his instructions and whatnot.

Why are we considering loaning him to Luton in January? I know he wants more game time but surely we can find a way for him to get that here.

Looking at getting rid I think and a loan offers the chance to bump up his value if it goes well. We are broke and as the FFP debate from the summer has taught us, selling kids does a whole lot more for the balance sheet than selling overpaid starters at a loss. I am fairly sure Hannibal will be on the auction block too.

It’s a shame about Hannibal. I had high hopes for him. Maybe the new haircut might save his Utd career

We only have two competitions for the rest of the season, where PL has little margin for error. FA Cup alone wouldn't give enough gametime for youngster even with the good luck of the draw. A loan to got more exposure to first team football can be more beneficial.

Playing in a struggling team, no one looks good enough. I think Antony still become an asset for us. Pellistri (and Mejbri) not.
Hannibal Mejbri had the potential to become a really good player for us. At 16/17 he looked a terrific talent. I dare say he was a better player then than he is now. I think players stagnate if they play under 21 football for too long. He had a pretty poor loan last season too. Pellistri never had the talent in the first place and it looks as if Antony didn't either.

He is a nothing player. We would be lucky to recoup any sort of money for him.

I'll lose my shit if we offer him a new contract.
